High School Experience
I had more than one high school experience. I went to three different high schools. However, I was born in Puerto Rico were high school stars on tenth grade not in ninth grade, ninth grade is the last year of middle school. So technically I went to four different high schools. My ninth grade school was called Josefina Ferrero. It was a small, public school located in a suburban, middle class neighborhood. I started my tenth grade in Vocational Ana Delia Flores also in Puerto Rico. This schools was big it had two floors and even though it was a public school it had a lot of people from different social classes, different districts and it was located in a urban neighborhood. There were so many people to meet, the only people I met were the girls of my workshop because I went to this school for just six months. I loved this school because they gived the option of eating in the school cafeteria or going out of the school during lunch, and that give us the opportunity to buy lunch. There were a lot of places near the school were we could go and buy lunch, there was a burger king, a KFC, a Chinese restaurant and a pizza restaurant. This school had twenty three workshops, the one I choose was assistant of medical offices. The first class I had was assistant of medical offices for two hours and then my academic classes. That was the first school I went here in the United States. The first day of school I wasn’t only nervous I was so confused. Everything was so different the climate, the people, the schedule, everything. The first day was terrible the only thing that made me a little exited was that for the first time I was going to have a locker, because the previous schools I went to din’t have lockers. The first day I looked at the schedule every minute and before entering the class room I would see the number of the classroom like a hundred times to sure I wasn’t going to go into the wrong room. I remember that when it was lunch time I went to the cafeteria and made the line to take the food, I took it and I went straight to the table and when I finished eating I went to the bathroom because I was alone and dint have nothing to do or a phone or something to distract myself. When I got out of the bathroom I saw people going in class rooms so I tough OMG I am late for my next class, because in my old school everybody had lunch at the same time so hurry up and when I enter to the class room the teacher just looked at me and I dint know what to do so I give him my schedule and he told me that I dint have that class until the other periods that I was still in lunch. Good Afternoon Ms. McCafferty, I made this appointment because I passionately believe that the book, Life is so good written by George Dawson and Richard Glaubman should be on the Carey booklist for Year 9 students. Life is so good is a magnificent part biography, part autobiography of a 103 year old black man named George Dawson who went to school to learn to read and write when he was 98 years old.
There are many policy issues that affect families in today’s society. Hunger is a hidden epidemic and one major issue that American’s still face. It is hard to believe that in this vast, ever growing country, families are still starving. As stated in the book Growing Up Empty, hunger is running wild through urban, rural, and even suburban communities. This paper will explore the differing perspectives of the concerned camp, sanguine camp, and impatient camp. In addition, each camps view, policy agenda, and values that underlie their argument on hunger will be discussed.
On an ordinary day, Leslie opens the main door of her house, when she walked inside she saw her mom and sister Islla sitting on the coach. Islla was crying, and Leslie ask her “What happened?’ Why you crying?’”. Islla told her that she is pregnant and that she wants to keep the baby even if her boyfriend will be against the baby, but she will need to drop out from her University. In a few minutes of thinking, Leslie decided and told her sister “You don’t need to drop out I will help you to babysit with my nephew.”
People can lose a lot when they are ashamed or afraid to be themselves. In the movie School Ties David Green, Charlie Dillon, and Rip Van Kelt are all motivated by not being themselves. All of these characters struggle with wanting to get into a certain school for themselves and their parents. They also don’t want to show who they are or how they feel about people so others won’t think differently of them. If these people would have just talked to or told people who they were they wouldn’t have made it worse when they found out. They just dug deeper into the hole until they couldn’t get out and buried themselves. The characters all have different problems with not being themselves ,but their lies all tie together in the longer run. The characters show how this could help people who struggle with life, new to a school, and don’t have many friends.
The Overachievers by Alexandra Robbins is a non- fiction book that follows the lives of nine high school/ college overachieving students. On the outside they look healthy, happy, and perfect, but upon closer look the reader realizes just how manic their lives and the lives of many other high scholars are. It is no secret that high school and college has become more competitive, but the public doesn’t realize just out of control this world is. “Overachieverism” has become a way of life, a social norm. It is a world-wide phenomenon that has swamped many of the world’s top countries. Students are breaking under the immense amount of pressure that society puts on them. They live in constant fear that they will not live up to society’s, or their own, standards. People have put so much emphasis on students to succeed and to outperform their peers, and all before them, that it is changing them, and is having irreversible effects on them.

My life story began when I was born on June 18, 1990 in the United States. Lived in the U.S.A for about two years and my parents decided to go back to their county and continue living there due to their business. But after 10 years living in Egypt my parents again decided to come to the U.S. for a better future for my siblings and I. However I was blessed to be in a family of Christian. Throughout 10 years being in a Muslim country was something completely different than being in the United States. At the time neither me nor my parents were feeling weird about it because my parents brought me up in churches and placed us in Christian schools that were very stricked about our behaviors and living the Godly life. But in general just never had a problem living in Egypt, I loved everyone around me and didn’t have any problems at all being around different types of religions.
Testament of Youth by Vera Brittain is her own story that she wrote about during the Great War otherwise known as World War One. The main theme of her story is the struggles that she had to face, whether it dealt with her family, or her personal goals such as attending college or the world that she was surrounded by. On page 17 Brittain stated that "When the Great War broke out, it came to me not as a superlative tragedy, but as an interruption of the most exasperating kind to my personal plans." Another important aspect of Vera's goals was the aspiration and ambition that she had, that aspiration allowed her to move forward in her life.
Many individuals have been affected negatively by trouble makers in school. Troublemakers have either disrupted classes or bullied other students. Yes, trouble makers may harm one’s learning environment, but should they be kicked out of school? Though many individuals argue that troublemakers will not change and hold the class down, they should not be kicked out because they need help. Most of these kids that are disobedient do not know the distinction between right and wrong. We should not withdraw trouble makers from school, rather, we should help these troublemakers and teach them right from wrong. In the article “Let’s Really Reform Our Schools” by Anita Garland, she states that American high schools are disasters because there are troublemakers (694). She asserts that the withdrawal of troublemakers in schools would make the learning environment peaceful for students who want to learn
