Have you been to Washington, D.C. about four times and Florida about two? Well, I have! My family and I have gone to Washington, D.C. and Florida multiple times throughout my life. A couple of those visits have been for family-related occasions, a few visits have been for small vacations with family, and so on. In Washington, D.C., I have quite a few cousins who are graduating high school and would like our support during then. The graduation-focused visits just started last year; therefore, instead of describing those trips first, I will explain the strange events of my first visit to D.C. This happened when I was about 6, and the information is a bit blurry, but the stories I have from that trip are endless! Our family had just attended my uncle’s retirement party. …show more content…
We were visiting the White House just as one of President Obama’s daughters began walking the one of the family’s dogs. It was quite exciting, since not many people are able to see the President and his family on something other than the television. Then, after a while, we were walking around D.C. when a few limos, many screaming police cars, and honking fire trucks passed a street down from us. Furthermore, we still don’t know what they were doing to this day! Those who had been in the limo may have been filming movie scenes or the police were investigating a crime scene. We checked the news after returning to my uncle’s house, but there wasn’t a thing there about movies being filmed in D.C. or any crimes that took place. Since this happened, I personally think that my first trip was the most exciting. The second trip to D.C. was for fun. My family and I went just as a vacation when I was around
This investigation analyzes how the reports of the Beltway Sniper Attacks were given (newspaper or television, etc.) changed the public’s reaction the amount attention that was given to this event. To be able to analyze this, I will look at different newspaper reports that were published discussing the different ways that the media took to reporting about this event. The varying reasons for differing reports will be explored; along with the different ways these reports affected American citizens.
History can seem like a boring barrier of facts. On the contrary, the book called Assassination Vacation, by Sarah Vowel, reveals the background about past president assassinations and tells her stories from past journeys. The author ignites her dry sense of humor, to engage readers and in order to achieve a purpose, which is to make history fascinating to everyday audiences.
For years now it’s been my dream to attend Melbourne High School. My two cousins have attended the school in the past five years and I’ve heard how enriching being part of the MHS community can be. They have both become excellent role models for me and now I wish to experience being part of the school’s tradition for myself.
The effects of Kennedy’s assassination were monumental, and his suspicious death began the era of conspiracy theories, leaving many Americans distrustful of the US Federal Government. Friday, November 22, 1963 marked one of the most shocking events in American history. It was a sunny day when President John F. Kennedy was visiting Dallas, Texas, to deliver a speech, and, “when the sun smiled like this, the President liked to ride with the top off his limousine and the rear seat raised so that people could see him easily” (Von Drehle). Kennedy, his wife Jacqueline, and the Texas Governor John Connally and his wife, Nellie, traveled from the airport through the city in a convertibl... ... middle of paper ... ...
During the Washington D.C. trip I got to learn so much about the foundation of America. I also developed a greater understanding of the history behind America and how it started. Liberty, Hope, Acceptance, Recognition, Bravery, Courage, Honor, Independence, and Integrity are all words that can describe what is so great about America. The words that describe the meaning of America to me is acceptance, freedom, and honor.
On November 22, 1963, at 12:30 in the afternoon, President John F. Kennedy was shot at and killed while participating in a motorcade in Dallas, Texas. The most important question that arises from this incident is ‘Who killed President John F. Kennedy?’ This is an issue which has been debated by scholars, The Government, and even common people alike. Many people seem to feel that it was a conspiracy, some large cover-up within a cover-up.
This article discusses the politics involved in the case of James Meredith being shot, and his return from hospitalization to continue on the “March Against Fear”. This source is credible, since it included video footage of the event.
The St. Louis Art Museum is one of the United States most renowned art museums that is located in our very own St. Louis. It has over 30,000 pieces of exquisite art that I had the privilege to witness. While there, I mainly examined the art pieces that were modern art, since that is of what I have a good working knowledge. There is a wide range of art that I also got to witness including the sculptures and the museum itself. In the past year, they have recently installed a new sector of their establishment that has done nothing less than enhance the entire museum’s overall beauty. The St. Louis Art Museum, there are many beautiful works, but there were three special projects that caught my eye while I was there. The Contemporary art periods, Modern art periods, the American art periods, and the museum itself.
Out of forty three presidents, I think my that my favorite president would have to be the first, and most well known, George Washington. He was a great military leader, and was seemingly impervious to the corrupting influence of power. The man that many refer to as the Father of the United States of America, who served 2 terms, was and still is truly inspirational figure from American history. One of the things that tips the scale of my favor toward Washington is that he believed in the Republic of the United States of America, and that we each had certain inalienable rights that were not up for debate or a vote. If there were more people like him in the U.S. today, we may not be in the condition that we are.
On June 17, 1972 a group of several men, dressed as hippies decided to break into a Democratic National Committee located at the Watergate buildings in Washington D.C. They broke into the committee to steal documents and wiretapping the phones from the government. It was all going good until the a security guard noticed that there was duct tape over a door lock. He removed that piece of tape, left, then came back later to another piece of tape on the door lock. The security guard called the Washington D.C. Police. The cops showed up at the watergate buildings to check it out. A cop named Alfred C. Baldwin III was in a restaurant watching a horror movie and a policeman named Barrett called to tell Baldwin the situation. Baldwin did not respond until later; he asked what the suspects were dressed as and in response, the walkie talkie said they were dressed in suits and ties. Baldwin did not believe it
Finally, on that rainy April morning, we made our way down to Ground Zero. As we entered the church, the smell of stale books and soggy clothing filled our noses. It was that smell of just coming out of a fresh rain, wet hair and wet faces surrounded us. Booths displaying medical stations, sleeping areas, and food stations were set up. They were frozen statues, the ghosts of the events that took place on September 11th and the weeks after. We shuffled through the pews and lined ourselves up at the front of the church.
One of the best vacation spots and most fun are down the shore in Wildwood, New Jersey. Wildwood consists of a boardwalk with tons of rides and fun, a beach with a beautiful ocean, and little summerhouses with ocean-side views. The best attractions though would probably be located on the boardwalk. There are so many things to see and do. Although it’s rather costly, it’s well worth it and it’s a great place for a family to share quality time together.
What I find interesting besides the childish uniforms Obama and Sharpton are donning (more on that later) is the newsstand next to Obama with the newspaper headlining, “WHITE HOUSE SILENT OVER SLAIN POLICE AND BLACK ON BLACK MURDERS.” Then one can go and observe the highly stylized faces, one can see how apathetic, stoic,
Today is the big day. I wake up at 2 A.M., get dressed, load luggage in the car, get breakfast at Jack in the Box and head to the Oakland Airport. My Mother is rarely late, so I'm certain that we will arrive at the airport ahead of time. On the ride in I glance over the itinerary and I see that this trip is filled with a number of historic sites in Washington DC, Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Virginia. As an added bonus students aren't required to wear school uniforms on travel days.
11th May, 1502. Today, the 11th day in the month of May, 1502 and after months of redemption and financing from the Royal Highnesses, King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella, I depart from Cadiz, Española to venture on my fourth voyage. At fifty-one years of age and not in the best of health due to gout, I know it is not a wise decision but my intention is to find the Strait of Malacca to China, India and Japan and to successfully sail around the world. By accomplishing this, I will certainly regain my reputation especially from the aftermath of the last journey.
