I am applying for the S. Michael Cassell Favorite Student Scholarship Foundation because I believe that I am hardworking and worthy enough to win this scholarship. For the past two to three years of my high school career, I’ve pushed myself to try my best, to pursue for the better. In the future I want to look back one day and reconcile all the past events in my life that brought me to that moment when I finally thought I could actually go to college. I strongly want to pursue in a degree in Filmmaking or Film Production, I’ve always had this connection with movies and tv shows ever since I was a little girl. I hope that one day that I’d create, write, and direct a movie of my very own that ends up being rated “the best” by critics, and enjoyable …show more content…
In the year, 2013-2014, I was a freshman and just started cheerleading; I was–in cheerleading terms–a back spot, and was given one of the most important jobs of making sure the flyer is safe when putting the girl up in the air and coming back down to the ground. I cheered for football and basketball season, maintaining my grades and GPA with my best effort. And I was rewarded with three academic rewards for continuing to keep my grades up through fall and winter sports. In the beginning of my sophomore year I started student council, because I wanted to work more with the school and the Maplewood Richmond Heights community. From that (and doing cheerleading up to now), I was involved with doing: the can food drives during mid-fall, holiday toy drive during December, and working with Spirit Week and other Senior Nights/Dances/Pep rallies for my school. During my recent summer this year of 2015, I was chosen to represent my school at the Hugh O’Brien Youth Leadership State seminar. The seminar lasted two-half days during mid-June, I learned all about more in depth leadership skills and ways I can work with my community more. At the June, I was told and research about the World Leadership Congress Event for HOBY. I was determined from the start to go to the week long trip hosted at Loyola University in Chicago. In the matter of two weeks, I raised $1,800 from
I maintained an A average up until my eleventh grade year, by doing so, I was recognized as a member of the National Honors Society. This current year, I was recognized by Augusta University in receiving an award for academic achievement. The year of 2013 I was awarded the Most Valuable Cheerleader on the Washington Wilkes Football-Competitive cheerleading squad. As for leadership positions, I was elected 4-H president in the fifth grade and student council president my eleventh grade year.
Throughout high school I have dreamed of having the opportunity to attend Indiana University. I have a true passion for babies. I love to learn how babies are developed and how they become such an amazing part of the world. Therefore, I would like to apply to Indiana University and pursue a degree in Pediatric Nursing. I would love to be able to deliver babies and deliver new life into this earth. There are several opportunities available for me to get involved with new leadership opportunities. I want to be able to be a leader for all age groups.
I, Hope Turnbull, am a Senior of Stockton High School in Stockton Kansas. My plans consist of attending North Central Kansas Technical College starting Fall 2016, where I want to begin my study of nursing. Due to me having all of my general education courses finished upon my college arrival, I have been accepted into the first year Nursing Program (LPN). I believe that I deserve this scholarship due to me excelling in my education at a very young age. My grades are earned as A’s and B’s in school.
This is when I decided to try and become a member of the student council. I was elected and soon loved it. My school is very important to me and I wanted to do my very best to make it the best possible high school experience for not only me, but every student that attends White Bear Lake. I found that was helpful to have many different views on the council, and I think I brought a new view that was not accounted for before. Being a hockey captain my senior year, I was elected to be in Leadership Academy. This group meets and talks about how to most effectively lead our sports teams as well as the school. This is very important to me because as a leader I want to set the best example possible for my peers and this group allows me to improve my leadership skills to make them even better. I value this program very much because I think it will help me to succeed in the future, because these skills are lifelong skills to have. I have also became a math tutor for my classmates. Being a tutor is very important to me because it allows me to share my knowledge and help
I aspired to play a significant leadership role in all of the activities someday, and over the course of my high school career, I thankfully have. This year as a senior, the student body elected me as the president of Student Council; members of National Honor Society (NHS) did the same; future business leaders elected me as the vice president of Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA); and I received the votes to secure the office of secretary in the local Future Farmers of America (FFA) chapter. Coaches and teammates have named me as an important asset as well. Over the years, these opportunities have presented me with many chances to enjoy extracurricular involvement, meet new people, and mature into a
What I came up with was doing a fundraiser for an individual that was from Macomb, IL and had went to Kibera, Africa to serve the needs of the people. My vision was to raise money for the children of the community to provide them with housing, education, and food. I did not want this to be a me thing but to get the campus involved with something bigger then themselves. I got University Union Board, Inter-Hall Council, Resident Assistant Council, Western All Volunteer Effort, Kappa Alpha Psi, and Alpha Phi Omega to co-sponsor this fundraiser that raise over $1,400 that provide the children we sponsor for six months of education, housing, and food. I have truly spent my last three years serving and being a great leader to this campus due to me believing someone has to step up and lead the way for
As a young lady graduating from The Dalles Whatonka High School I think it’s important to be involved in as many activity’s as possible. Throughout my high school years I have been involved in many school activities and comities such as student government. I have always had an interest in athletics and played sports. These leadership and athletic roles have tough me skills that will last me a lifetime.
As a child I did not know a lot about college. None of the adults in my life had been to College, my family did not talk about it, and it seemed like a distant land that I heard about only in movies and on Television. I was first introduced to college when my third grade class took a field trip to Iowa State University, clearly a much needed field trip considering my lack of exposure to higher education. I was immediately amazed by the grand architecture and massive buildings. I had never seen anything like a University campus before. The few things that I remember about the trip were that everything was big, the college students played with us, and we got to swim in the pool. While the larger purpose of the field trip may have been lost to my childhood excitement of getting to swim in a big pool, the field trip did mark the beginning of my knowledge of higher education and from then on I always viewed it as something that I would be a part of eventually, even if it did seem like a very distant future at age eight. As I grew older I developed other reasons for wanting to attend colle...
College Education is of the utmost importance to me especially when competing with people in my age group. A college education is also one of the most costly obligations that one must do to gain success. In my academic career, I have gain many experiences that I may not have been able to experience had I not attended a post-secondary education. A college education has never been an option for me it was always instilled in my brain as an adolescent as a top priority. In my youth I was certain of my goals and aspirations, the person that I wanted to become and where I see myself in the future. Some people in my same age group with similar upbringing as mine had ne focus. Their prerogative was to acquire money in any way that they knew how. Their options including, dealing drugs or for women prostitution and or becoming a hair stylist. I was adamant that in my profession a college education was not only necessary as a requirement to obtain a law license but also there were no exit strategies. To elucidate I am speaking of secondary options such as a technical school. My peers often believed that my choice would change and I was just hoping that their state of minds too would alter. My dreams of becoming a lawyer was slowly approaching as I reached the age of 18. High school teachers of mine often attempted to sway me into a different direction since I was not as outspoken as my fellow classmates. However, I would inform them just as I have revealed to others that my dream is everlasting and my path is clear. I will become a lawyer and today examining the course of my short academic years—spending only 17 years in school beginning with Head Start- I would be the attorney I have always wanted to be. Life has not always been daisies wi...
I am qualified to be accepted into the National Honor Society based on scholarship. Scholarship is defined as academic study or achievement; learning at a high level. I have maintained at least a 96 unweighted overall average throughout my years in Trinity as well as in middle school. I have tried to take rigorous courses as well as many to help me get into a better school for my major in science. I take Honors courses along with an AP course and manage to be consistent in my school work while having practice for sports after school every day and twice a week for outside of school sports. I have been nominated for the Science Honor Society for excelling in my Biology, Chemistry, and Physics classes. I have been on Principal’s List Freshman year when I was ranked 30 in the class and Sophomore year when I ranked 20 in the class, so I believe my continued growth as the curriculum gets harder qualifies me for the National Honor Society under scholarship.
I donate a lot of my time with the Mallard Creek Optimist Club, whether I would be serving as a camp counselor during summer camps, participating in community park cleanup, or serving dinner to the sick and elderly, I have always been there to help. One of my most proudest achievements with the Optimist Club was winning the ‘Reel Optimism Video Contest’. The ‘Reel Optimism Video Contest’ consisted of a small group of individuals who worked together, directing and editing a short film about a service event we did for our community. Receiving first place in the video contest earned my optimist club a $1,000 grant. As I mentioned earlier, I also give back some of my time in the form of tutoring through the teacher cadet program at my
In the summer of my junior year of high school, I attended the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards conference held at Westminster college. To this date, the time I spent at this conference was the most explementary time I have ever had. When I arrived at the conference, I honestly had no idea what to expect and really only went for the scholarship opportunities available. On the car ride to Westminster, I had the sickest feeling of nausea in my stomach, dreading to arrive. I assumed it would just be another lecture filled week of boredom. However, I soon learned, I could not have been more wrong. From the moment I stepped out of the car, I was showered with kindness and a real feeling of peace. At RYLA, as it’s often abbreviated, there was not a
Since I was little, I have always been really passionate about social issues, specifically inner city social issues that pertain to education inequality and fairness in the criminal justice system. These have alway been the thing that has kept me up at night and I hope that when I am older and make enough money I will be able to start programs similar to a program I participated in last year called Cultural Leadership. In the program 24 young teens (sophomores and juniors) from around the Saint Louis area learn about the cycles of oppression through the African American and Jewish lens (although you do not have to African American or Jewish to participate in the program) and learn ways to become better leaders of the future and troublemakers of the best kind. For 3 weeks we traveled across the nation to 15 different cities, including New York City, NY; New Orleans, LA; Selma, AL; and Memphis meeting some of the most influential and important figures in American history, including senator John Lewis and Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. On one of our stops we went to Money, MS and visited Bryant's Grocery
Besides academics, fine arts and sports in school, I have attained leading roles in different groups. This year, I am the Spirit Leader of Student Council encouraging monthly goals and themes and assisting in school events. From creating a student council with a group of peers three years ago we have had success in many events and have found new ways to spread spirit, gather important information and assist with financial groups. Recently, I stepped up to be the leader of the fundraising committee for our ...
A global citizen is that who is willing to use its voice and knowledge to make a change. No one would ever be able to make a change in just one day, it is something that takes time and devotion. I’m really interested in diversity and I’m seeking to what is my role is as a world citizen. The fact that I’m searching for an international education is the proof of my desire to establish myself as a global citizen and my interest in the world issues.
