Growing up I always liked science so in elementary school it was the best time of the day. I had many different activities that were my favorite and really are clear in my memory to this day. When I got into middle school and high school, I still had a love for science and learning more about it. I took a few classes in college already as well, so I’d say my science background has a great foundation. In kindergarten we learned a lot about the water cycle. Although it was difficult to understand some of the words like condensation and precipitation, it was easy to remember how and why it rained or snowed. It was also a fun way to learn. We sang a song and then would act out what was happening in each part. From a gas that made its way to a cloud and soon became rain the teachers at the time really knew how to get information across to kids. In first grade is when we started with a little more of the science fair type of things. Ms. M was one of my favorite teachers I’ve ever had for science. I never got to make a volcano out of baking soda just to see it explode everywhere. That was kind of sad for me because I really wanted to watch that happen. My class was actually the only class that never did that activity. I will definitely do that activity with my class no matter how big of a mess it might make and how many hours I’d have to spend making a volcano out of paper-mache. I did however get to make a tornado in a bottle in elementary school. We got to put food coloring and glitter into our own pop bottles. We duct taped them together and then we had our own homemade tornado. We spent a long time just watching the tornado twist and turn as we spun the bottles faster and
I would continually ponder over questions on the mechanics of nature and human beings. Science has always been a main focus of mine. I distinctly remember when my parents bought our first computer when I was six years old. On the computer I would always be watching videos or reading on science topics. I would always be conducting my own science experiments. The reaction from mixing baking soda with vinegar to form a volcano would always amaze me as a child. I have always been fascinated with science-oriented interests. I remember being young and intrigued by the complexity of the human body. As I grew, puzzles and critical thinking became essential to my learning process.
As far back as I can remember I had a strong affinity for science. I recall having an avid curiosity in biology and chemistry while I attended catholic school. Our congregation placed an emphasis on missionary work and social service, and growing up I felt very connected to that experience. Medicine as a profession was something I was exposed to early on as many of my family members are physicians. I became even more interested in medicine when as a teenager my dad became critically ill and I wanted desperately to know what was happening and what needed to be done to get him better.

Since receiving my first home science kit at five years of age the way things work and why has always been at the forefront of my mind. During my early years I would find great delight in examining anything I could fit under the lens of my telescope. I will never forget my first look at the intricate detail of a human hair.
Math is a subject has always and will continue to pulled my interests. This was because it was a subject that would lead me to a single unique answer. Once I started to attend high school, physics then opened up another interest, not only with math, but an interest in Math with actual application into the real world. With physics, it allowed me to see how math could be used to predict events. The classes that I have taken that has shaped my interests for my major of science in mathematics are Physics, and Computer Science.
