1. What was your favorite musical moment of the event (and why)?
My favorite musical moment during the event was when the Jerry Don band would play different cover songs. I love listening to bands that are able to create their own music, while still being able to play a cover. If a band is capable of doing both, then I tend to find them more talented. I think this because if you’re a band like Jerry Don’s then a lot of people don’t know you or your songs. Therefore, if the band plays multiple songs that no one has heard of in a row, the audience may leave the event or just dislike the band in general. When comparing Jerry Don’s band performance to them, I would rate the audience’s participation as very involved. In regards to Luke Bryan concerts, the one thing I noticed is that Luke talks to the audience as well as lets the audience sing some of the verses for him/ with him. Now this type of a performance is always going to be different than smaller musical events, due to a large fan base. When comparing it to the Anthony Lovano Band, which was more so the background music in a restaurant. However, the Jerry Don band’s performance was very unique, since it was able to make the audience involved throughout the entire event. When I first arrived the band had made everyone clear the dance floor for a dance off. The band chose three random contestants and let us, the audience choose the winner! For the first contestant, they played a song with a slow rhythm to it, which made it hard to dance too. For the second contestant they played the “Hokey Pokey” song, which was hilarious. Of course the band didn’t play all the verses just two, one being the right foot in and the other being the butt in. The last song was given to the birthday girl contestant, which the band chose to play a well-known country song, “Any Man of Mine” by Shania Twain. I feel this way because the dance floor was always packed and the audience was singing along to the songs they knew, as well as dancing with all their friends. The entire audience participated in all the contests that were provided to us by the band. However, since this was a bar the audience did come and go as they wanted, especially since this particular bar had three levels with different live performers on each. Although, I did notice various groups of people that stayed on the dance floor or the surrounding tables for a while (about an hourish). As I said, this was a bar and if a group of people weren’t enjoying themselves they did leave, but many groups appeared throughout the night, which made the band able to play to a variety of different audiences throughout the night. Into the Woods is a musical based off of classic Grimms Brothers’ characters and their fairytales. The production explores the consequences of their wishes and the quests that they fulfill and take on. In writing this play, it seems as though Sondheim and Lapine were attempting to bring to life the classic fairytales of their youth with a twist of reality. Through this portrayal of classic tales, the audience is also taken back into their childhood for the entire two hours and forty-five minutes.

Jazz is a music genre that is very rich in culture which is why I decided to attend a Jazz concert. This was my first Jazz event I had ever been to. I went to see the band The Chairman and the Board. This was a blues swing band. Having been to other concerts, I was expecting something similar as far as atmosphere and crowd. I was proved very wrong as this concert defied all my expectations and was in a whole different field as far as life entertainment goes. The first thing I noticed right off the bat was the audience. The age range of this audience was mainly 40-70. I definitely felt like the odd man out when I was there. It did get me thinking though, why was this audience so much older? I looked into the era of when most of those people
Every performance was presented with charm. The flashing, changing colors seem to go along with the performances. The director was humorous. The performers outfits were on point too. I liked the color coding of the vocalists, Jeremy, Jordan, and Rowan. Also, Julie wore a pretty suede dress and had a great voice. It was nice to see her come out for the 2nd time to sing. When Spencer kept playing his saxophone in some of the performances, it was just amazing. Some of my favorite performances were Sittin on the Dock of the Bay, Ain’t too Proud to Beg, In a Sentimental Mood, and more. It really made me feel like I was in New Orleans all over again. I absolutely love Otis Redding and The Temptations music, so I wasn’t new to these songs they played. I was sitting in the back (R-125) where I felt comfortable to bob my head to the music. If I ever come back to see another concert, I will make sure to get a seat in the back again. I adore Jordan that did sung the Temptations song. I thought it was exciting to see his enthusiasm while on stage keeping us engaged, but everyone did great in their own way. The song by Duke Ellington made me feel melancholy, the piece was soft. I just couldn’t believe how well everyone contributed and gave an outstanding
I believe the Willie Nelson Experience did more than just open up the eyes of music for my fellow band members and me. I believe it entertained Arlington with quality music and laughter. The WNE will continue singing country classics. On behalf of the band, we liked to see the happy looks on peoples faces. Maybe that why Willie Nelson sings.
On May 2, 2014, Yoron Israel and The Key Players performed at the Amazing Things Arts Center in Framingham. The concert lasted approximately an hour and a half and seven pieces were performed. The program included many original songs as well as a few covers from Stevie Wonder and Louis Armstrong. This performance was quite different from the last concert I attended, in that it was a much different style of jazz. Yoron Israel and The Key players concert was very entertaining. However, it was not only the music but also several different works of art that made the show successful.
In the year 2011, Rigby High School’s Concert Band was coming to the close of another great concert. They were getting to a very dramatic part of the song Ave Maria, and during a break in the melodies, a sharp baby cry was heard throughout the auditorium, followed by a loud yell from a parent. The rest of the concert was a disaster, with conversation and talking heard in the recording. In fact, Rigby has not once gotten a clean recording without conversation and noises in the concerts. People unfortunately do not understand how to behave during concerts of any type. With some concerts and performances, it is ok to vocalize, but concert band is not one of them. To help explain this, concert band will be compared to jazz band in its origins, type, and expectations to show why this type of behavior is unacceptable.

There were songs played that were written by famous jazz composers and songs played that were written by some of the performers themselves. This added to the excitement of the show.
While the musician?s were playing, I was surprised how the audience was. Most of the audience was talking loud, drinking alcohol and eating snacks. Some audience was even clapping hands and humming along with the song. This was quite an opposite environment compared to the concerts I went to. Sometimes the audience was so loud that I could barely hear the songs. It was interesting that even though the crowd was so loud, the musicians seemed very comfortable with it. Over Halloween weekend, Dance TCU in concert, performed at Ed Landreth Hall on the TCU campus, was a mid term showcase performed by the students in the TCU School for Classical and Contemporary Dance. The overall mood was very professional. These college level dancers performed various pieces from Giselle to video edited versions of dance to contemporary dances inspired by swing dancing. Each piece was unique and whether the style was classical or contemporary, the execution was very good. The quality of the performance was spectacular and showed all the work that everyone involved in the production has put out to perfect all the aspects of the show come together. Over this semester, I attended two concerts. The first concert I went to was a performance done by the Swedish band Graveyard at the 9:30 club in DC. The second concert that I went to was at the George Mason Center for Performing Arts. This concert was a jazz competition between bands call The Battle of the Big Bands. Both concerts were performed very well and kept the audience, myself included, very entertained throughout the entire show. In this paper, I will be discussing each individual show in depth, and then continuing on to compare the two concerts.
Form gives organization to sounds. It refers to the overall structure or plan of a piece of music. It is with the patterns, motifs, and cadences contained within form that help make music enjoyable to listen to. In Roger Scruton’s “Aesthetics of Music” Scruton states in Ch. 10 that form relies on two concepts, deep structure or linear and hierarchal order. Deep structure is the concept that most organized sounds have an underlying form. Deep Structure exists within language particularly in the study of syntax. In language deep structure is a theoretical concept that unifies other structures. An example of this would be how the sentences “Max loves Sara” and “Sara is loved by Max” mean the same thing and use similar wording.
The Monterey Pop Festival was a groundbreaking event, bringing together nearly three dozen well-known and unknown acts representing an eclectic mix of styles and sounds. Unlike in the orchestra concert where one could not dance, in the jazz concert, the audience was able to let the music take control of their emotions, and they could express themselves in the manner they deemed most appropriate. Also, the environment in the jazz concert played a major role in enhancing the experience at the concert.
