Participating in recreation and leisure activities is an extremely important part of our lives. It may not always be noticeable, but most people are taking part in such activities every single day. Anything from surfing on the web to surfing in the ocean is considered a recreational/leisure activity. Without them, life would certainly be very mundane. As for myself, there are three that I participate in constantly. The first would be exploring and traveling to other countries. Human beings, a naturally migratory species, are drawn to traveling and not staying within one location. My need to travel is mostly fueled by the desire to experience something new and the rush of being thrown into unfamiliar surroundings. My second favorite leisure …show more content…
Growing up with a family who loves to travel has been carried over into my adult years and I try to go somewhere new at every possible chance I get. Throughout all of my travel experiences, I have met new people and experienced things I never could have within my own hometown. For example, I have developed an open-mindedness for cultures and practices other than the ones I am used to. You are able to become more aware of international problems and not just have a concern for your own country, which is a problem many of us have. For a lot of people, being thrown into unfamiliar surroundings is a terrifying idea but to me it is the most exhilarating part. It has led me to become a much more independent and well-rounded person. Travel is also a great stress reliever from everyday life. So far, my favorite travel experience and one that has led me to travel even more would be when I traveled around Europe two summers ago. I went from Barcelona to Valencia, Valencia to Ibiza, Ibiza to Paris, And then Paris to London. It was the first trip I had ever done without my parents or a family member along side me and I absolutely loved it. Being in a new country by myself let me learn so much about the type of person I am now and who I want to be in the future. All of the travelers and locals I met are some of the most interesting people I have ever had the pleasure of coming across. Although I may never see them again, I will always keep in contact and remember the things they had taught me. We don’t always travel because we necessarily want to but because we need to in order to have a newfound creativity, state of mind, and outlook on the

I took a trip to Colorado In July of 2015 it was the best week of my life. The best part of that week was the day that I got to spend in rocky mountain national park. It was a great experience with beautiful scenery and wildlife everywhere you looked. This trip changed everything I thought about where I wanted to go and what I wanted to do when I am finished with my schooling.

My own personal philosophy of leisure has been shaped by past and present activities I do for leisure and why I do them. To me, leisure is the sense of being free from external stressors that I face in my life such as school or work. The positive outcomes from partaking in leisure are generally overlooked and often underestimated. Leisure affects our emotions, our physical and mental health, and aids in the creation of relationships. In my own personal life, I have done and still participate in leisure as a way to sooth myself or unwind from the stress of school or work. The release of pent up emotions and energy for individuals helps their relationships with others and their overall health as well. When stress is released, an individual is
The purpose of therapeutic recreation is to enable all individuals to achieve quality of life and optimal health through meaningful experiences in recreation and leisure. In this paper the definition of therapeutic recreation will be discussed as well as what should be included in the definition and what should be rejected. This definition will mainly focus on health and use the Health Promotion Model to further explain my choice to focus on health and well-being. I will also be discussing the importance of inclusion in therapeutic recreation for different learning styles in many environments, and the significance of diversity in the community and what we hope to achieve by being fully inclusive.

A leisure activity is any activity chosen for pleasure, relaxation, or other emotional satisfaction, typically something one would participate in during free time. The leisure activity I have chosen to partake in is knitting. My great-grandmother was an excellent knitter and would make my whole family scarves and dishcloths when she was alive. She would give them out as Christmas presents, so I want to carry on her tradition. Knitting is a relaxing and simple task, so it is a great way for me to occupy my spare time and escape the stresses of work and school.
Leisure time, each person thinks of something different when they hear this. While reading an essay by Gregory A. Miller about "The Many Benefits of Hiking” I got to thinking what my favorite features and benefits of hiking are. There is nothing quite like traveling, going someplace new and finding out more about the world and yourself. Anyone can become a traveler it just takes a little bit of faith and courage. Traveling across the world or even across the country is a learning experience. When you are a traveler you see how people live and how different cultures work. 2006). To me recreation is having fun with people that makes you laugh and smile. Outdoor recreation, to me, means to remember the joy that nature brought me at five years old with friends and family exploring what Mother Nature provides us and feeling youthful again. Sometimes this would be exploring the countryside, seeing what humanity has not touched, and running around the fields at top speed. Finding a new path to take or just exploring somewhere new by hiking to a swimming hole, or even just walking around somewhere new and taking in all the details so you can recreate them in a drawing to share with people and to look back on years from now. During my experience simulation, I walked along paths in the forest by my house and took in every detail that nature provides. I would look at a fallen tree and remember being at my cottage climbing a falling tree and wanting to hang off it. I saw all the leaves changing colour and remembered cleaning up the grounds of my family farm and then wanting to jump into the colourful pile. My experience gave me memories of when I was younger and it allowed me
