The context in “My Father’s Eyes” form the settings of this story. Throughout the story the setting of Alyssa's life changes based on her age and timeline of her life. She tells stories about her life in the past, present, and future. Alyssa uses the setting of her life to tell the reader her relationship with her father. She starts her story when she was 5 years old running to hug her father and ends her story with her leaving for college wondering when she would hear from him again. The author of the story uses very vivid detail in her description of her memories. She begins her story with a memory of her dad getting out of his “old, beat-up Ford truck, all rusty and sky-blue, coffee cup in hand from this morning breakfast”(Frechette 3).
