4. Program Evaluation
4.1 Research evaluation question
- This outcome evaluation will look at short-term impacts of the program on students. It will look to answer the following question: did the My FRIENDS Youth program contribute to students’ ability to effectively cope with new challenges and stresses? 4.2 Theoretical framework
- The evaluation will be non-experimental. Specifically, a qualitative evaluation that takes an interpretive approach will be employed.
- Garnering students’ takeaways from the program and how they apply skills they learned from the program to their everyday lives will be important to answer to the research evaluation question. This will rely on questions and discussions focused on the students’ interpretations of the program and personal gains.
4.3 Study Design

Grade 6-7 students who have taken part in the My FRIENDS Youth program and teachers who have taught this program level will be recruited.
- 3 classes of students (15-20 students per class) and their associated teachers from participating schools across BC will be sampled.
- The youth participants will be given information in a language understandable to them to allow them to make an informed decision about participation before the evaluation commences (Einarsdóttir, 2007). However, since the youth are underage, youths’ parents will provide written informed consent.
4.3.3 Data Collection
- Data will be collected via semi-structured group interviews with students, in-depth interviews with teachers, and document reviews.
- Pre and post intervention interviews will take place. Interviews, before the program is implemented in a classroom, will be conducted and focus on students’ present stress/anxiety levels and coping mechanisms. Post-interviews will occur a month after the program has ended and focus on changes to mental health and strategies to cope with new

Intervention: CSP, MHS and Nyteria discussed the youth adjusting to the home and school. CSP and Nyteria review ways the youth can avoid a fight with peers and disrespecting adults. CSP encouraged the youth to find a trusted adult if she felt threatened. CSP, MSH and Nyteria discussed coping skills and which skill is effective. CCC Kei Faat Primary School is a public school directly under the HK CCCC (The Hong Kong Council of the Church of Christ in China), which founded in 1965. The school has a long history and excellent school spirit. It pledges to provide quality “Whole Person Education” which emphasizes on cultivating students’ morality, intelligence, physical and social ability. Gifted and talented education has been included in the scope of school development plan. Besides, the school regards “to popularize and optimize gifted and talented education” as their educational concept. Thus, school teachers view each student as an unrefined gold that has tremendous potential. They devoted their effort to recognize student’s individual differences and maximize their high potential. To achieve this goal, the school identified and selected gifted students based on the Education commission Report No.4 and Ghana’s multiple intelligence theory. Concerning about the construction of gifted development programmes, the school adopted a three-tier operation model which includes the whole-class mode, pull-out program and off-site support. It also provided a wide range of special programmes to meet the unique learning needs of those gifted students. These programmes are mainly divided into seven subjects. They are Chinese, English, Mathematics, Common Sense, Putonghua, Multiple intelligence and leadership.
The grant requires that three main goals are met. These three goals are? (a) implement an assessment-based, results-driven, comprehensive school counseling program that will serve as a catalyst and model for expansion throughout the district; (b) increase the social and emotional competencies and academic achievement of all students; and (c) minimize the barriers and increase resilience for the students who are at higher risk of school failure.

The intake process may vary based on the clinical setting from structured to unstructured models, each with the same core and theme of collective information that is customarily gathered. The effectiveness of the initial intake interviews are a reflection of balance between gathering information and developing a therapeutic working alliance (Whiston, 2009). Qualitative and Quantitative study designs both can be beneficial in research design. They both provide valuable options for researchers in the field. These techniques can either be used separately in a research study or they can be combined to achieve maximum information. This paper will define the terms qualitative and quantitative; describe the similarities and differences between each; discuss how qualitative and/or quantitative research designs or techniques could be used in the evaluation of my proposed research; and discuss why linking analysis to study design is important.

When conducting research, one may decide to traditional research or action research. This paper will address the differences between action research and traditional research regarding their use in an educational environment, as well provide explanations and examples to delineate their uses in an education setting.
