My Experience with Computers
Walking down the hallway to computer class excited me and made me a little anxious. The world of technology was slowly opening up to me. It was the year I took my first computer class. I learned how to push a button to start the computer, open up a program, and type. It was interesting, but my fear that I would accidentally hit the wrong key and make the computer crash overshadowed my ability to enjoy it. I would have to learn to conquer that fear, as digital technology became a part of my every-day life.
Computers became more common around school as I got older. In fifth grade, there was actually one computer in the classroom. I rarely practiced it, except if the teachers made us do an exercise using it. I picked up the skill more readily when I discovered the Internet.
The first time I used the Internet was at my friend's house. She had gotten it and was telling me about all the people she was meeting on-line in "chat rooms." I didn't understand how you could talk to real people over the computer. I went to my friend's house and we spent hours in front of the screen talking to people from all over the country on America on-line, the popular Internet access. I was obsessed. That was the only thing we did when I went over to her house. I was amazed at the expertise my friend developed at typing; she learned it after having to carry on multiple conversations with different people who instant-messaged her all at once. I was still pecking at the keys one-by-one.
Everyday I would beg my dad to get the family AOL. Finally he broke down and got it. I was glued to it for the first three months. Then the novelty began to wear off. I wasn't so impressed with talking to strangers anymore. I realized that people I met face-to-face I could hang out with, but I had no way of knowing that "kids" I talked to on-line weren't actually 50 year-old men.
Note: Honestly, I don't want to read another book with this many mentions of drugs for a long time. But I have become interested in the topic of recovery. I think it is a very interesting subject that requires all parts of the mind to fully comprehend.
While admitting the power of technology, he also points out the adverse effects of excessive use of technology in the education system. He states, “Computers make our worst educational nightmare come true” (279). According to him, improper or overuse of computers hinders learning ability. He reports that over the past few years, computers have been assumed to be a necessity in America’s classrooms and introduced to children from elementary levels. However, technology can be addictive, and students may overuse it, leading to a drop in educational standards.
The essay “My technologically Challenged Life” by Monica Wunderlich has made me realize how much we need technology in our lives and how important it is for people to know how to use it. Technology is used for many different things like keeping in touch with relatives that live far from you and many other things. Technology keeps evolving very rapidly and it can be hard for people to keep up with all this new technology coming out, this is what this story is about. In this essay, a woman tells us about her experiences with technology, and tells her difficulties in everyday life because of her lack of experience with technology.
First of all, “My Papa’s Waltz” by Theodore Roethke is a profound look into the childhood memories through the eyes of a small boy. Roethke’s choice of the title of the poem is a powerful use of sensory imagery. Furthermore, the word waltz may influence the audience’s preconception of the
Technology is one of the most important things in everyone’s life. Technology improves every day. in regards to today’s youth, they were born with all the new technological inventions as opposed to our parents. In “Quality Time, Redefined” by Alex Williams, published in the New York Times, the author talks about the positive and negative effects on technology. I enjoyed this reading because it related my personal day to day life. Even though some Americans acknowledge that technology is a part of their everyday life, they do not see the negative outcome of technology, they are blinded only by the positive aspects.
Long-term care facilities have been forgotten by the Federal government for a while now. Even though the government has enforced Medicare, certain restrictions are placed on Medicare that do not allow most people to use these types of resources to pay for their housing in a long-term care facility. Because Medicare is offered to people 65 years and older, long-term care services should be covered by Medicare for the health protection of persons age 65 and older. Since Medicaid covers long-term care services for very low-income persons, Medicare should also provide coverage for long-term care facilities for the older persons of age 65 and older. While not suggesting that the Federal government should just loan millions of dollars for long-term care facilities, alternative ways need to be created, in order for the elderly to afford their living while they age, such as allowing Medicare to work for all elderly and older people age 65 and older.
Media Violence and its negative impact has been discussed and debated for many years As children grow into teens they encounter as vast amount of violence in the media, negatively impacting today’s youth. Teenagers who are exposed to media violence will fail to develop effective socialization strategies and resort more readily to violence, which makes society a more dangerous place.
For example, while computers have replaced typewriters, it helps the students to become a better writer as they can “revise text, rearrange paragraphs, and experiment with the tone and shape of an essay” while using word processing. Thus, the computer helps the students to improvise their writing. Human relationships with computers and technology have come closer than ever before in the recent decades. Erik Erikson’s view on the element “psychological moratorium” implies the identity development in adolescence. According to Sherry Turkle, computers and the internet have given wonderful opportunities to the young generation that helps them to present themselves online through role-playing games, chat rooms, and other technological venues.... ...
Then came “computer lab” in elementary school. We had to go with our class once a week down to the computer lab for an hour or two to learn basic computer knowledge. I was always one step ahead of my fellow students, so in fourth grade my computer teacher asked me to be apart of the computer club. I know that sounds pretty nerdy, but this is how I stayed up to date on the newest computer advancements. After all, I didn’t own a computer and I couldn’t always go over to my neighbor’s house all the time. I can still remember the day that my teacher brought in and showed us compact discs. She acted like they were very expensive and had to be handled with extreme care. I was so scared the first time I held one because she had instilled in us the fear of scratching and messing them up permanently.
Today is an era of information explosion. In the past few years, many newly invented technological devices and software are now tightly integrated with our everyday lives. Today, people can look up almost any kind of information, make friends, communicate with others, and express ourselves with the simple touch of a button on a device we usually keep within arm’s reach. “Widespread use of technology is changing the way we work, learn, and communicate – even the way we carry out our regular, daily activities.”(Seifer and Mihalynuk) These devices not only benefit our livelihoods and increase our happiness, but they are also integral in advancing education, technology, development, and, in general, human evolution. The children of today, who have been raised in this era of information explosion, will undoubtedly reap such benefits and, in turn, advance society towards a better generation.
When I become a teacher, there is no doubt that I will use computers in my classroom and my students will do activities with computers. It is just the way to do things now. There are so many valuable programs out there to help students learn and to help teachers teach that computers are pretty much a necessity in classrooms. In my opinion, for an elementary classroom, there should be at least five to ten computers in each room. Without the access to the computers, it is hard to take advantage of all the wonderful things a computer has to offer.
We now use computers every day, as well as graphing calculators and other technological advances such as the scanner and the Internet. We use computers to do anything from typing English papers to checking our e-mail. My Grandparents never imagined things such as the computer, let alone the Internet.
As time goes by, advances in technology will provide more and more avenues for learning by way of the computer. The Internet has opened the doors of the world and unleashed limitless possibilities in research and education. It may be only a matter of time when the classroom is brought online to all children and attending a school classroom outside the home is a thing of the past. Looking back over the last 20 years, I never would have imagined that computers would come this far and impact our lives so much. Just imagine where they will be 20 years from now.
My experience with this technology has been very interesting. Growing up I didn 't use technology alot since I spent more of my time outside or reading. I didn’t not really have a smart phone until my senior year of high school, so it didn’t play that big of a factor in my life. When I did get a Smartphone it wasn’t a big deal to me I treated it the same way that I treated my other phone. To me it was nothing special and I felt there was better things to do. I wasn 't a big fan of social application unless they were games or tumblr. When I got the I phone 6 that when I really started to be invested in my phone. Now a day’s My phone is my life everything I need is on my phone , from when my school work is due to all the contact I need. To me it really does make a difference in my life because it seem know that I am always connected to my phone which is a nasty habit.
From classroom activities to space flight and everything in between, computers are a vital part of daily life. Everything we do and every aspect of our life is affected by modern technology, like the computers. Computers let us dissect any sort of data. Computers make us reflect, hence we develop. Because of computers and the Internet, we can talk with individuals from diverse nations, and even see them via webcams.
