My background is Italian but I was born in America so I am pretty Americanized. But that doesn’t mean my Italian roots don’t show from time to time. My daily life is actually influenced a lot more then I originally thought by being Italian. For example, my mom is constantly cooking these gigantic meals that would make all my friends want to live at my house. Even when I was younger I my mom would make all these great meals ranging from chicken to different types of pasta. I would always bring these foods to lunch in school and not a day went by that I wasn’t asked to trade lunches. Of course I never did though because I loved my moms home cooked meals. Since I have always had these meals as a child you could say I’ve been a little fascinated by how they are prepared. So naturally I asked my mom to teach me and I have incorporated it in my life style ever since. By life style I do mean a pretty active one. I do like to remain physical so being able to make these home cooked Italian meals the healthy way has benefited me greatly. I can weigh out and prepare all my foods exac...
Unless you are a wealthy Italian, you live a much humbler lifestyle. A lot of Italians homes are meager, and the material goods Americans want and vie for, aren’t as important to them. I realized how fortunate I was for all the belongings I took for granted. Some Italians would view the home I grew up in as a mansion compared to their own. They seemed so much happier and it was humbling to see them content by having a lot
The greatest woman I’ve ever known always told me that education was important…and she was right. I came from a small town in the suburbs of St. Louis, Missouri prior to becoming a teenager. At the time, education was abundant in St. Ann, where I lived. I attended a decent elementary school and made good grades, despite mathematics not being my cup of tea. I have
I was born and raised in Tallahassee, Florida. My mother was born in Taiwan and moved to the United States to continue her education when she was in her mid- twenties. My father is from Fort Walton Beach, Florida. My parents have different cultures, and as a result they have completely different backgrounds. When I was growing up, I had a hard time reconciling these different cultures. It was difficult for me and my sister to know what to do in many social situations because our primary schema (our parents) would act completely different in similar social situations. When I would ask my parents for advice, they would give me contrasting suggestions. As I grew older, I started to realize that both my parents were right, even if they acted like opposites.
Right next to food, family is the most important thing in Italian culture. My mother was born and raised in Naples, Italy and lived with her mother and three siblings after her father passed away when she was only six years old. My mother and my grandmother had a very close bond, the same bond my mother and I share now. My grandmother was a very hands on type of mom my mother tells me. Like most mothers, her children were her pride and joy. My mother’s most vivid memories of her childhood involve my grandmother teaching her how to make tiramisu and lasagna. Practices my mother has now passed onto me. Aside from the cooking lessons, my mother also taught me what it means to be a women. Being independent, never giving up, and working for what
As the breeze of potent smelly feet brushed my nose, I had remembered where I was. The luminous screen of my phone had absorbed me, as I was patiently waiting for my Second Mom, and her two 5 year old twins to arrive at Urban Air. Amanda became my Second Mom 4 years ago, due to her care for me just as she was my biological Mother. Finally, as what seemed to be decades, I noticed my family approaching me. Not knowing documents with vivid emergency questions had to be signed, it took another large amount of unnecessary time. We purchased the one hour tickets and received these neon green wristbands, being placed around our petite wrists. They were color coded to let the employee’s know our time is up and mandatory that we exit.
Anne (my mother) died at 2:30 am on Monday, July 31, 2017. She would have turned 98 on 9/11/17.
He was shaking. It was from the cold in his body or the pain I couldn’t tell. Mom was trying to act calm but her eyes said otherwise, She was terrified. Scientists say our brains repress or forget traumatic memories. Parts of this I forget. My Mom took him to Medstar Hospital, and she left us in the house. She said it was too late for us to go out and for us to go to sleep. We couldn’t sleep, so we worried.
Noted author Kristin Hannah wrote this statement about mothers in one of her books, “As mothers and daughters, we are connected with one another. My mother is the bones of my spine, keeping me straight and true. She is my blood, making sure it runs rich and strong. She is the beating of my heart. I cannot now imagine a life without her.” This quote identifies my mother and the connection that we had with one another. As I look back over my life, I realize that my mother taught me many lessons including the importance of kindness, independence, and what really matters in life.
Saturday, April 5th, 2014 at 7:30 was when I discovered my mom, dead. Most horrifying image ever; her cold, lifeless body just lying on the floor. She had been there for some time; she was so cold and blue. She had an imprint of the crack in the hard floor accost her face. My Mom had sleep apnea. Doctor told her to use a machine for it, but it’s so loud and uncomfortable for her; so she never used it. That day began like every other day; it was the Friday morning last day of school before spring break. Exited for spring break. We planned to go down to California to visit our grandparents. My brothers and sisters and I all woke up at 6. Got our clothes packed and things we all wanted to bring. It was around 7:20 when I went upstairs to check and see if she was up and ready to leave in 30 minutes.
My mother has impacted my life; imigrated from Mexico and language barrier, she pushed for the american dream. Experiencing an abusive father, going to bed hungry and having a stable home; my mother always had a smile on her face and strived to work as hard as she could and never complained.
All the middle aged girls (18-35) were put to the right, and the old and young ones were out to the left. Every single girl in front of me that said they were sixteen or younger were all put to the left. My mother in front of me the solider asks her age. She tells him with her voice cracking, "Thirty-two." She is put to the right. "No." I thought to myself. We are going to be separated. It's my turn and he asks me my age. I tell him confidently, "Sixteen." He stares at me. He puts me to the right. Why me? What was wrong with all the other sixteen year olds? I couldn't tell you. I was just filled with joy to not be separated from my mother. We get into the camp and we're assigned beds. My mother and I shared a bed on the top bunk. We were all given a piece of bread and a small cup of water, and told
My mother is one of those famous Coca Cola addicts. She drinks it as if it is water and sometimes when someone offers her actual water she honestly looks disgusted. One reason I am committed to living a healthy lifestyle is to be an example to my mother and family and help them make better choices. Their diets are not the best, and they often experience health problems due to bad eating habits. Another reason I am committed to staying healthy is because it makes me feel like Spongebob on the way to the Krusty Krab. I am ready. I feel more positive, energised, and focused when I have been taking care of my body.

My mom (Jennifer Scott) has lived a life full of sacrifice and doing what needs to be done for the good of others. Scott joined the military when she was in high school really forced her to depend on herself. She looked to sports as an escape and a way to keep herself busy.
Many of us have role models in our lives and to most people role models are athletes and movie stars, but to me a role model is much more. To me a role model is a person who has positively influenced someone in life, and is not a person filled with selfishness and greed. They help shape someone’s personality, and characteristics. They are people who someone can look up to for advice in a hard situation, and know that they will give those words of wisdom. They will never judge our past actions, instead only look to help because they really care. A role model is someone who we should never feel awkward talking to about our problems. A perfect role model for me is my mother. She is a wonderful human being. She’s smart, wise, ambitious, patient and such a loving person. There are no words that can describe my gratitude towards her, but through this essay I will describe some of her characteristics that makes her my role model.
