My thought on Mental Health When I first began hearing Mental Health, I thought it was a nice way of saying you’re dealing with crazy people (I know we are not supposed to say this). I have learned that Mental Health is an umbrella under which Mental Illness or Disorders are developed or discovered and treated. Everyone has Mental Health whether they have a problem or not is another question. I think every place of employment should be required to have classes on mental health and customer service no matter line of line it is. This would help solve some of the problems we have with work place violence and stress and some of the issues with the police. It would also help lead some people to getting the help they may need on their own …show more content…
No one is genuinely concerned about anyone any more. When I was growing up people asked how you were doing and wanted to hear how you were doing. If you had a problem and they could help you with anything, they would. Nowadays if someone says Hey girl How you doing?” as a greeting to get to their topic of conversation or it’s just a simply passing by statement. It is very rare that you would find someone that would actually, want to know the answer.
My experience with Mental Health as far as Mental illness goes is I believe my mother dealt with depression. I found out that my mother was sexually abused as a child. She had me when she was 14 years old because she wanted someone to love and someone to love her back unconditionally, she battled with low self-esteem and then drug when I was about 15years old. I have dealt with patients with Alzheimer’s and while working in the nursing homes and hospitals as Certified Nurse Assistant and Certified Medication Technician. I am currently working with a co-working that has ADD/ADHD for me has become challenging simply because I see when she is trying to get over and manipulate situations to get her way. I only say this because I have watched her and

One reason why I have a problem with it is because it would not be allowed for anyone else to do those things to her and she like it. We’ve had a conversation about those negative ways she seeks attention. I gave her my point over view and she gave me hers. I’ve tried to encourage her in ways to build her self-esteem, and to go back to school, to also to get her a hobbies outside of her disrespectful daughter and husband. I’ve asked her questions when she does things to get a better understanding myself. She said she was just trying to help when it comes to her inserting herself in conversations. For the most part we work well together. If she forgets where something is, I can usually remember or vice versa. If I know she has done something right and someone says she did it wrong I would back her up. I would do that for any of my co-workers. If she makes a mistake I would correct it and move on if I can. If I can’t I just send her a message and say Hey fix this or that I tried to but I couldn’t because it’s under your name and she would do the same for me. I told her It’s not about working harder it’s about

...business. Also, the government needs to step up and pass legislation that puts more pressure on employers to include mental health coverage. Legislation pertaining to parity was a step forward, but an employer currently can simply drop mental health coverage to circumvent the laws. Finally, it is the duty of practitioners to serve the patients best interest, not that of the managed care company. Practitioners must put pressure on managed mental health care companies to place power back into the hands of the mental health professional who provide care for the patients daily. Patients are people not numbers.

I have really enjoyed doing the research for this project. Mental illnesses are something that I have been really fascinated in, and by writing about several of these illnesses I have learned quite a bit. I never realized that some of these mental illnesses could be so similar yet affect their lives so differently. Many people could not live a happy life if it was not for the help of their loved ones, and the doctors that make their treatments available.
I will begin with what I remember of my experience of learning I have mental health illness. I remember suffering heavily through my early teens to my twenties with depression. I had tried at that time just about every type of depression medication available and none of them worked on me. It wasn't until I was in my twenties that my depression just kind of went away. I thought I was done with suffering from mental health problems, but I would be wrong.
Race, by definition, refers to biological characteristics of individuals as reflected in their physical appearance (Lyndonna Marrast, David U. Himmelstein, and Steffie Woolhandler, 2016) Contrary to popular race, the concept of race is not something that is intrinsic to human nature; in other words, it is an aspect of society that has been socially constructed with the intention of separation and segregation. Usually, those that are placed into racial categories are associated with certain prejudices and biases that are the result of multiple stereotypes that are perpetuated in our society; for example, there are multiple stigmas of African Americans in today’s society. As a result, this has allowed for the development of a specific way of

For a very long time, mental health was a disease people would not dare speak about. The stigma associated with mental health meant that it was viewed as a curse or simply poor upbringing. Crazy, right? (Pardon the pun). Although it’s not seen as a curse by us in this generation any more, many people with mental health issues still have to face ignorance, prejudice and discrimination from our society just because of their lack of understanding or reluctance to try and understand. Be that as it may, these attitudes directly impact upon how and if people choose to seek help, making the negative and ignorant opinions and attitudes of others potentially dangerous to many individuals and the people around them.
The mental health assessment is a crucial part in everyday nursing care as it evaluates an individual’s mental condition to assess for risk factors of mental illnesses and provide optimal care and treatment. Mental health awareness has always been very important to me. It is something that I hold close to my heart because I have lived (and will continue to live) through it. Many individuals suffering with mental illness, lose hope. This results in suicide attempts and completions, as the limited resources and the stigma associated with mental illness makes it feel nearly impossible for sufferers and their families to talk to others about their struggles and to access help and services. I believe that mental health is a topic that our society must effectively address, as mental illness is very common, affecting one in five individuals, and because suicide is one of the most common leading deaths among young
