My Ethical Systems All through my life, I have found and developed my own personal ethical system. Religious ethics and ethics of care are my most commonly used ethical systems in my life. These systems have both contributed to the making of my personal decisions, which led me to the person I am today. I combined both ethical systems as I matured; however I still rely on religious ethics as my basic foundation. I have used Ethics of Care from my previous job and will continue to use this system in my future career. Religious Ethics
Religious ethics firmly articulate what is good and evil and state that God’s will is the way (Pollock, 2015). There are various religions that people practice around the world. Christianity is a religion

I did not notice that I practiced ethics of care until my leadership class. When I was 17 years old, I applied for a part-time job while I was in school. My managers were impressed by my work ethic, so I was promoted into a team lead position despite the fact that I did not have any experience in leadership. As time passed by I have learned as a leader that I needed to value and respect my colleagues. In my opinion the best way for a team to be successful is when everybody feels valued in the organization; only then the happy environment will motivate them to improve the company. Caring for the employees with respect, patience, and a non-judgment attitude is how I applied ethics of care (Personal communication, C. Ahenakew & J. Maggrah, Oct. 19, …show more content…
If I purse a career in the law enforcement I would face a moral dilemma between my religion and my career. If I use excessive force and accidentally kill someone in the process, it would be difficult for me to accept that fact. As stated in the 10 Commandments, it is forbidden to kill (Personal communication, E. Amero & K. Demas, Oct. 19, 2016). Religious ethics may not be applied in my future career because of the moral dilemma I may face. As a result, I’ve decided to pursue a career that will allow me to apply my religious ethics as well.
I chose to pursue a career in youth work, which will heavily rely on relationship building and ethics of care. I prefer building healthy relationship with clients in order to help them succeed. I hope to pursue a career in a counselling setting such as restorative justice rehabilitation similar to correction rehabilitation (Personal communication, C. Ahenakew & J. Maggrah, Oct. 19, 2016). I will use ethics of care by building relationships in a professional manner and avoid
We have one resident in the long-term facility who has stage four cancer of spinal cord and he has been suffering from intense pain. Every time when I enter his room, he cries and implore to the god that he can minimize his suffering. He has prescription of hydromorphone 8 mg every 4 hourly PRN , oxycodone 5 mg every 6 hourly and 50 mcg of fentanyl path change every 3rd day. After giving all scheduled and PRN medicine his pain level remains same as before. When I see that patients I feel like to give highest dose of medicine as well as alternative pain management therapy so that he can have some comfort but ethically I have no right to do that. He is hospice but he has no comfort at all. Following are the nine steps of Uustal ethical decision making model.
The four ethical virtues of health care must be shown, compassion, discernment, integrity and trustworthiness. Respecting a person’s autonomy understanding and acting on the belief the people have the right decision to make decisions and take action based on their beliefs and value systems. The ethical issues that would be encountered will be to treat each person with passion and respect regardless of sex, race, and religious preference. The environment has no human rights violations, sustains nursing ethical
Ethical judgements limit the methods available in the production of knowledge in both the arts and the natural sciences. Discuss.
There is a significant difference between government and religious morals even though both are ethical authorities. These two moral authorities conflict with one another while both are to help people make sou...
Ethics or rather morals entail mechanisms that defend, systematize as well as recommend conceptions of right or wrong. Many organizations develop ethical codes to ensure employees and employers understand the difference in doing good or bad. In that respect, ethics are an essential aspect of successfully running of any organization or government. Ethics ensure employee’s productivity levels are up to the required standards. There are many ethical systems that were created over the years, each created to support curtain people’s beliefs, cultures, and ideologies. Out of all the systems that were presented in this course I believe that relativism and absolutism most aligns with my beliefs. Relativism is the fact that there is no absolute and that what is considered right and wrong varies from person to person and society to society. While absolutism “is the ethical belief that there are absolute standards against which moral questions can be judged and that certain actions are right or wrong, regardless of the context of the act”.(Philosophy, n.d). I believe that there is a right and a wrong in the world (absolutism) but,
In my opinion, ethics plays an extensive role in my philosophy because it reflects an individual 's core beliefs, values, and character. A nurse has to constantly make judgments that influences a patient’s outcomes in an ethical manner. For example a nurse has to have the knowledge of ethical principles, such as autonomy and beneficence, to have the power of being a major player in the decision-making process regarding patient care (Gonzalez, 2014). Ultimately, having a good comprehension of morality, or what one should and should not do, plays a detrimental role in providing patient-centered
Axiology is the study of the Nature of Values. As an Existentialist I believe that a person’s choices are what creates the human being. As I am a military child, I have had a very strict life. While most of the values I learned were from my home life, school and other sources backed these values up. I will focus on my top three values which are respect, responsibility, and understanding. The others that will guide my practice are discipline, trying your best, kindness, and commitment. The first value that came to my mind was respect. Respect is very important because you must earn others respect and vice versa. I learned this, first, through my home, by respecting my parent’s wishes, even if it was not something I agreed with. Thus in turn,
Human beings are confronted with numerous issues throughout his or her lifetime that would require him or her to examine the best action to take to avoid the damaging consequences. In most cases, individuals restrain his or her action to take into consideration the consequences that may lead to the right or wrong behavior. One’s ethical and moral standards are first learned at an early age from his or her culture, how he or she is raised, religious background, and social system. Scientifically, there are various ethical theories, such as the virtue theory, deontological ethics, and utilitarianism (Boylan, 2009). By understanding these theories one can compare, contrast and uncover the reasoning behind his or her ethical and moral standards.
When you were younger I’m sure your teacher asked you and your classmates what you wanted to be when you grew up. I remember some of my classmates wanting to be a fireman, a police officer or a doctor. I wanted to be an educator. Being the naive and carefree child that I was, I had no knowledge of what responsibilities or rules would be packaged into this career. Now that I am in college earning my Bachelors in Elementary Education, my perspective of how a teacher should act and care for their students. As you continue reading, I will discuss my professional responsibility, the code of ethics I will follow, and the high moral standard that I set for myself.
This concern for the welfare of others comes from my religious and personal experiences as a child and young adult. Furthermore, legal responsibility is willing to accept fault, knowing when to ask questions of a supervisor to more clearly meet the needs of the client. Kaslow, Grus, Campbell, & Fouad, et al., 2009). Moreover, this insightful implementation has the ability to evaluate and implement the soundest therapy for the client. My career identity has not been perfected in a skilled setting, which would be a practicum or internship.
The question that I wish to address in context of these two principles of my personal ethical system is whether my ethical system is capable of being universally applied and followed. Can we think of a possible situation when this system will break down so that it becomes indefensible? In other words, for an ethical system to be universal, it must be applicable and be consistent. It should be able to guide me under all circumstances and provide a reference for my actions.
Ethical theories are a way of finding solutions to ethical dilemmas using moral reasoning or moral character. The overall classification of ethical theories involves finding a resolution to ethical problems that are not necessarily answered by laws or principles already in place but that achieve justice and allow for individual rights. There are many different ethical theories and each takes a different approach as to the process in which they find a resolution. Ethical actions are those that increase prosperity, but ethics in business is not only focused on actions, it can also involve consequences of actions and a person’s own moral character.
Moral ethics is the belief that all human beings are born to know right from wrong. We come into this world as good people, but the temptations and challenges in life influence our mind set to as it will. Every person on Earth chooses if they’re to follow through with their life of good or go down the path of bad. “A person’s moral ethics” (unknown.)
In contrast to secular ethics, Christian ethics stem from the Word of God. The conditions of right and wrong are not left up for debate among the human race, but are given to us through revealed and special revelation
