The academic subject that highly inspires me is English, although this was not until my Junior year of High School. At first I did not enjoy English because I saw it as a repetitive course. Although, this took a rapid turn when I met my High School Junior teacher; Lorett Stagg, at first she came extremely strong due to the fact that she demanded copious assignments. This was extremely difficult for me because I was not used to completing that type of work. Stagg would demand our work to be perfect with high vocabulary and an extremely well comprehension of the topic. The book Fearfully and Wonderfully Made by Dr. Paul Brand & Philips Yancey gives a whole new meaning on what is studying biology. He starts by describing the very first time he saw a cell. He was amazed and from there on he learn how to be a biology student, while still having strong beliefs. He compares the human body as a community. Since each individual cell can live for itself. All cells come together to sustain the larger organism and properly function the way it should be.The analogy in 1 Corinthians 12, compares the human body to the church, where he states how god put each individual cell in its place for a reason. We all are made up of many cells but, we can not function if there are not together as a whole.
The story I chose for this analysis is “Why, you reckon?” by Langston Hughes. IN this analysis I will be focusing on how the great depression in Harlem had effect on the story, how racism played a part, and how or if the characters were justifyied in their actions. During this time period the intense racial divide combined with the economic harships that plagued the U.S. during the 1923’s makes for an interesting story that makes you think if the charaters were really justified.

I believe education is a building process, everything from kindergarten through my college years has let me gained and expanded my education through not only learning facts and concepts, but also learning about myself. Through all that I have acquired, I believe Elementary Education is my true calling. My desire to pursue Education, specifically Elementary education came from a discovery of myself. As a college student you look for opportunities to gain knowledge and make a little extra cash on the side. When I took the opportunity to take a job for an after school elementary program called Bricks 4 Kidz, I never thought It would change my views on my major the way it did. I went into college with a mind set on Business Management thinking that was my true calling, but when I experienced how it feels to work with kids and how much I really enjoy it I started rethinking my major. When a student of mine grabbed my leg and begged me to not leave because he wanted me to stay and keep teaching was the moment I knew I was doing something right with my life and that Education was the perfect path for me.
This course was the first course I took as an incoming freshman, as anyone could imagine I was scared and nervous at the same time. Also since it is a writing course; I was hesitant if I wanted to continue in the class because writing is very challenging for me as an immigrant. Returning from summer break, I found it extremely tough to continue where I left off with my writing skills from high school. The fear of writing that my old high school teacher instilled in me did not help my writing anxiety either. In contrast, I found that the professor and the course were not at all intimidating as I assumed, the professor took time from his busy schedule to help his students to further improve their writing and the writing topics were very stimulating and thought provoking. Composition 1 has helped me learn more about myself and my writing skills, which allowed me to further self-evaluate myself, find where I need improvement and become motivated to change.
I do not consider mathematics as my best subject because I have always struggled to dominate mathematics. For many years, I have struggled with mathematics starting from basic elementary mathematics all the way to college mathematics. Throughout, my inclination has always been towards academics and I consistently strive to achieve the best. I attended one of the best schools in my city, National Public School, Bangalore. Be it in school or my college, I have always been very enthusiastic about learning something new.
I grew up in the environment that promotes education. I have been inspired by my kith and kin who are doctors with advanced degrees. It is in my upbringing to set high goals and achieve those goals through hard work. I studied medicine because I wanted to be in profession of protecting lives.
