My Educational Philosophy
Education is the answer to all of the problems facing the world. Knowledgeable people do not take inhumane and unethical actions against others. It is only through the education of others that crime, poverty and hunger will be solved. It is due to the potential of education that has inspired me to be an educator. The ability to make a difference and to communicate my passion for literature and the English language is my driving force and ambition. Inspiring a disinterested student to read or write poetry is a gateway to creative open minds, which will result in a more civilized world.
My classroom will be arranged in a horseshoe. In this way, the students are not separated into clusters and the main focus will always be in the end of the horseshoe. Students will be facing one another and there will be open space for discussion. I want bulletin boards to be changed at least once a month. There will be a calendar focusing on historical events in literature. There will also be a timeline of events on whatever book the students are currently reading. In addition, there will be 10 facts about the author of the month that will appear on an extra-credit quiz. Furthermore, I want 15 different vocabulary words on another bulletin focusing on preparation for the ACT and SAT tests.
As much as I would like to establish a non-authoritarian atmosphere, I have only seen it fail. Non-Authoritarian attitudes are often taken advantage of by the students. They use their friendship with the teacher to skip class and not do assignments. Besides, nowadays most parents are too worried about being friends that they do not stress authority either. Kids need to find authority somewhere. Authoritarian attitude is essential for at least the beginning of the year. Each class of students is different; therefore, it is not fair to govern them all the same. Some students will want to learn the material and respect the teacher; however, until the students have proven themselves, I will use an authoritarian rule.
Many great minds believe that education is a powerful tool. Investing in your education is the most valuable and most rewarding thing a person can do to secure their future. Influential people who have brought positive changes to the world have said: “The investment in knowledge pays the best interest”. (Franklin). “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world”. (Nelson Mandela). “A brighter future starts with an education”. (Montgomery).
My classroom would be run with the attitude of the students in mind. First of all, the main emphasis of class would be learning science, not good behavior. I guess I would take a non-authoritarian view of discipline. By high school, the students know how to behave and constantly pointing out the right way to behave is only going to make them do the opposite for attention. The only time a student would be punished is if their actions are taking away from the learning process. At this point in my education, I would probably say I would let the principle deal with the discipline considering only severe cases would need punishment. This, as with many of my views, may change with increased education and experience.
My Educational philosophy is defined in becoming a teacher as a set of ideas and beliefs about education that guide the professional behavior of educators. Also included in educational philosophy are one’s beliefs about teaching and learning, students, knowledge and what is worth knowing. My five general purposes for philosophy of education are: to set goals of plan, to teach useful and relevant information, be aware of students learning styles, modeling positive cooperative behavior, to look for solutions and to make sure those solutions are working.
Education mean something different for everyone. Because of this, people have different views for the purpose of education. For some education can be very important and for others no so much. However, education is still present in some ways. Education is used for many things like advancing in the work place and helping out country compete against other countries. The role that education plays in improving the lives of students is by creating democratic citizens; this happens by promoting imagination and the desire to care in classrooms.
I decided to become a teacher because when I was growing up, I watched a lot of teachers that would never take time to help those that needed it. There were times I was one of those students. I also love to help people and make a difference in their life. Therefore, I want to become a teacher.
In all, there are many perspectives on education. In Reading the World Ideas That Matter, Michael Austin describes how education makes someone look like a god. Hsun Tzu also included In Reading the World expresses that when someone doesn’t have an education they are always wrong. Laura Pappano a journalist from the New York Times expresses her perspective on how being creative is now playing a big role in education. Education is like a map that is used to guide somebody in foreign city. Education guides people to chase their dreams and make them a reality with the help of education. That map is used to get to know the place people are visiting better and the location people live in. Everything revolves around education. Education is the definition of success. Without and education people will be clueless and not know what to do with their lives
Becoming a teacher was not something I always knew I wanted. As I approached an age where I really started considering what I would like to do for a career I only knew that I did not want to work in an office behind a desk all day. I wanted a job that would be interactive, challenging and exciting. I also knew I wanted a job that would be important and would somehow contribute to the world in an important way. I thought being a teacher; particularly a teacher in the primary levels would fulfill those hopes and goals assuming I dedicate myself to becoming an effective teacher who has a positive influence on the lives of my students.
In a classroom that is non-authoritarian, the teacher serves as a facilitator, or supervisor of learning. By assuming this role, the teacher provides access to information rather than being the primary source of information. In this aspect, the students will be able to discover knowledge through problem-solving, cooperative learning activities, and decision making. I believe it is important for a teacher to provide students a sense of freedom so that they may choose what they want to learn according to their interests. By making a child feel as though they have a choice, rather than an obligation to learn information, it will help them constructively build their knowledge.
I believe that teaching is the most important job known to humanity. In fact, I do not believe it is a job, but rather, a debt payment to society. Education is important because it not only opens doors to a better life, but it also insures one a happier life. It develops in us a perspective of looking at life. It makes us capable of interpreting rightly the things perceived. Without education, we as a whole, would be further behind in the world and would not have as much technology as we do now. Education also equips us with all that is needed to make our dreams come true. It is because of education that we have the comfortable living style that we have today. For those who are troubled, education acts as an outlet to success. It is education that builds in every individual a confidence to make decisions, to face life, and to accept successes and failures. It instills a sense of pride about the knowledge one has and prepares him/her for life.
I believe that education should be looked as as a desire to acquire all possible knowledge, not as a requirement or something that can be formally examined by standardized tests. There are numerous ways that children learn and I want to be able to encourage as much learning as possible for each child. I believe that using many methods of instruction is the most effective way of teaching to these various ways of learning. These methods include group work, hands-on activities, buddy work, etc. Assessment of children should follow the same idea. When children get the chance to perform on different assessments, they can adequately show their strengths and weaknesses. I do not wish to rely on tests only to assess the students in my class. Some types of assessment that I think should be inlcuded in a classroom are journals, presentations, projects and interviews. I also think that the classroom should be run with the help of the children. By distributing jobs among the children and everyone participating in the classroom, the students will form a sense of togetherness. This will eventually create a community within the classroom. I feel that this community of learners is essential for the students to perform effectively and efficiently. They will feel comfortable in the environment and will not be afraid to take risks or ask questions. The teacher will also be a member of this community and will not be seen as unapproachable or as the only leader.
Education is a vital part of society. It serves the beneficial purpose of educating our children and getting them ready to be productive adults in today's society. But, the social institution of education is not without its problems. Continual efforts to modify and improve the system need to be made, if we are to reap the highest benefits that education has to offer to our children and our society as a whole.
Becoming a teacher has always been one of my goals in life. What motivates me to become a teacher is that I love to help and teach children new things in life. I try to do this in a very unique way. I love to see kids happy. I think that being a teacher is a very rewarding job. Teachers should try to teach their students new things with a positive attitude, with enthusiasm and interest. Giving more attention to students of younger ages is especially important. It is a good feeling to see students become knowledgeable in all aspects and to prepare students to be successful for the good of society.
For example only male students in school, teachers use violation as authority, not harsh, but does involve against students’ behavior. Teachers should not use their authority to give any pressure on students, but try to approach with thoughtfulness. One of the thing that I noticed from American school is that teachers give lot of discussion time to make students to share their thoughts. Instructors are open minded to students and are willing to listen to their thoughts, use their time to let students to freely talk, cooperating with others
Education is defined in the dictionary as the process of receiving or giving systematic instruction, especially at a school or university. Education stands important due to the fact it opens many doors to career opportunities, and it helps one to live life independently. Education is overall the key to living a successful life and also helps in enabling peace in oneself. By engaging in the education of others one is looking to help develop young minds by teaching them to work to their highest potential, and to never give up. Through obtaining a great teaching style, building a strong relationship with students, and cooperating with fellow teachers and colleagues one will make teaching a wonderful experience for
Nelson Mandela once said,“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world”. Education is the process of gaining information about the world. Education gives us knowledge of the world around us and changes it into something even better. Access to education is the foundation of a democratic society, because it provides an opportunity for all to achieve the American Dream, ensures equality and justice, and allows for our country to compete globally for a prosperous future.
