Dreams, everyone has some sort of life ambition or goal that they would like to have in their life. As children we look at the whole world with eyes filled with wonder and ambition; yet, as we age pursuing one’s own goals often gets put on the back burner. Life happens, people get married, and have kids and the hope of landing that dream career gets increasingly distant. We tell ourselves that we will get to it, but often we fall short of our own expectations of ourselves. As humans, we have the capacity to do and create wondrous things. Knowing of this capacity gives us the desire to go out and get what we truly want; however, as we begin pushing towards our desires we run into conflict. Life has a special way of creating obstacles and barriers …show more content…
I have a dream of getting in a Doctorate of Physical Therapy program. However, I was not sure how I was going to make this happen. My first couple years at university, I did not know what I wanted. I was content getting by. I was not failing courses but my grades were not necessary something that I could say that I was proud of. My mantra was the old saying “C’s get degrees” and although C’s might get a Bachelor’s degree they will not significantly improve one’s chances of getting into a respectable graduate program. Due to my own foolishness, I had placed a huge barrier to my goal before I even began reaching for it. I knew I needed to begin retaking some courses to get my GPA up higher before I graduate from Utah State …show more content…
I had taken Basic Behavior Analysis, Advanced Behavior Analysis, and Behavior modification in the past. These classes made it clear that behavior, one’s actions are malleable. In order to change my poor studying habits, I need a new method of evaluating my academic success. One that also held me accountable for my grades. So I took what I had learned from these courses and created a unique type of behavioral contract. One that could also be used to evaluate if I was taking the steps necessary to succeed in my courses. I call these behavioral contracts Behavioral Strategies. It works similar to other behavioral contracts the main difference being that these contracts are meant to be self-mediated, with the strategy functioning as an evaluation form as
Achieving Dreams and Leading Your Life Recently I read The Last Lecture, a book I would not normally read. In this book, I learned about the life of Randy Pausch, who unfortunately had Pancreatic cancer. In his book, Pausch stated, “ It’s not about how to achieve your dreams.
“If you can dream it, you can do it,” is a quote that Walt Disney was known for saying. I simple means you can accomplish and reach every one of our dreams if you have the determination to pursue them. This is the main concept behind the essay of “The Dreamer.” By Junot Diaz. The essay/article. Was first written and appeared in More Magazine for women in 2011 (Diaz 128). It is the short story of Junot Diaz’s mother was determination to go to school and get an education despite the punishment she endured and the sacrifice required.
So many people have ideas of things they want to do, whether they be business-related, something that scares them or even just asking someone else out on a date. Everyone has ideas about how they want to live their lives, but most people never wind up following through. They are so afraid of failure or of looking bad that they run from any kind of challenge. Then later in life, when they realize that they had all these opportunities and never took ad...
To even begin to really love life and take forth all that it presents, its critical to decide what it is that one loves. With an impeccable role as a wealthy entrepreneur, Steve Jobs and his ideas should not be taken for granted. In the Commencement Address to Stanford University, Steve Jobs expresses that it’s essential to follow one’s dreams. Although Job’s ideas are somewhat cliche, he is speaking from experience and what he has witnessed. With the ideas that one should follow their heart, not settle at all costs, and that life is too short; Steve Jobs left the Stanford graduates with motivation to fulfill their personal yearnings and ambitions. For many, the idea that their dreams can be fulfilled is talk of fantasy,
People need to think intelligently and set goals that are specific to their needs, making it possible to achieve their goals by making sure they are measurable and realistic and making it possible to build a support system around them; furthermore, they also need to set a deadline with time frames that can be met. Chanika Charles stated that “young people are at risk of being gobbled up by despair, overcome by conditions beyond their control” (A17). To avoid this, people need to start motivating themselves and getting excited about what they want to achieve, making sure their goals are relevant to their needs and being more perseverance when situations become difficult. When setting up their goals, they must ask that magic question: is this relevant to my lifestyle, furthermore, what will I do to achieve it?
This brings up another point on the negative side of having the desire to wanting to become successful. One must be willing to sacrifice the things of present wants and at certain times even things that are needs. To accumulate the knowledge needed to ac...
As the quote given by William Shakespeare “Dream in light years, challenge each mile and walk step by step” which indicates don’t be afraid of ambition, break down each challenge and set new goals and
Effectively, success does not just happen. It is made to happen, especially through chasing personal dreams and aspirations. It is also made to happen when we consciously pursue our purposes in life, particularly guided by our own inborn abilities. We should never be discouraged by our heritage or cultural backgrounds. We should not even be worried about lack of opportunities. Pursuing our passion will certainly lead us into exploiting our full potential, as we contribute to the improvement of the welfare of humanity. Alongside, we will get what we rightly deserve – invaluable rewards.
Having ambition to be successful is key in getting what you want in life. Ambitions of getting a great job, a family, and any other thing that will make your life more enjoyable is all do to setting goals. I have a dream… you have a dream… our nation has a dream… our world has a dream. We all have a dream.
I want to ask you guys “what were your childhood dreams?” Walk over again in your memory, and think what were your dreams when you were young, naïve, and reckless. We believed we could be anything or anyone that we wanted. We were bold enough to say it out loud, “Yes, I can go to Harvard.” However, as we grow older, whenever somebody ask us “what do you to do when you grow up”, even though it is a simple one question, we often find ourselves afraid, hesitating, shrinking back and embarrassed to say what we truly think. At last, we will answer them, “I don’t know.” Listening to what we said, the grown-ups say, “These students don’t have visions.”
Someone once asked me what I believed in, what I wanted to get out of life and where I saw myself a couple of years from now…I was speechless, just standing there with a blank look upon my face, guess I looked like a deer in the headlights. At first I was outraged for not knowing what to say, and then I became concerned. Looking back I can say that I was afraid, afraid of wanting anything. I figured wanting would lead to trying and trying would lead to failure, and failure is not an option. A friend once told me I was much better than I thought I was, and he would help me do more in a positive sense, he was the one that helped me realize failure was something I shouldn’t be afraid of.
In the past eight years, I anxiously spent many hours, days and months looking for answers to questions like what I wanted to do with my life or what was my purpose, and I agonized over the lingering doubt of whether I could really achieve my dream.
“If you can imagine it, you can achieve it. If you can dream it, you can become it”. As the saying goes by William A. Ward. I am sure that you have understood the topic, the topic is, DREAMS. Dreams are nothing but the thoughts and ideas of ones mind. They predict the character of the person. If ones thoughts are good they he/she will see good dreams and if someone’s thoughts are bad they he/she will se bad dreams. From the above line it is clear that dreams are good or bad, intentions of people.
“We all have dreams. But in order to make dreams into reality, it takes an awful lot of determination, dedication, self-discipline, and effort” (Owens). Without any determination, dedication, self-discipline, and effort dreams will not turn into reality. People should look forward and push for that reality. Anyone can say they will fulfill their dream, but it takes someone with dedication, determination and effort to accomplish that dream. Effort is the key to success. Effort is like the sugar and spice to everything nice. Without any push of effort for the dream to become reality dedication, determination and self-discipline don’t take place. The dream drives people to accomplish the unexpected.
