My childhood dream was that someday my actions would dramatically impact the world. After a great deal of self-evaluation and an exciting journey through my undergraduate education, I have come to realize that it is not as hard as I had imagined it to be. I find the success of the Google search engine that touches a million lives each day inspirational .It was after all a research project developed by its founders during their student days at a US university. I feel that such are probable prospects of a graduate education at a university as esteemed as yours where a single line of code that I might write could touch the lives of millions around the world.10 years down the line I see myself in an industry contributing to the field of computer science in the industry and hope that my dream will manifest into reality. Unlike budding computer scientists my Math skills were not very strong until Grade 10.However I quickly recognized its importance in my intended major and with my innate tenacity worked until I turned it into an area of strength topping the subject in both the 10th and 12th grades. Subsequently I ranked in the top 1.5 % of my state engineering entrance exam from among a hundred thousand who appear for it each year. This opened up doors to one of the most prestigious private colleges in the country and the most sought after branch. I was fortunate enough to have had great teachers who have strengthened my fundamentals and helped me understand every single line of code I wrote. My academic record has been consistently superior and gratifying since my college employs a stringent relative grading system where I am continually challenged by a very competitive peer group. One of my main interests is Computer networks and... ... middle of paper ... ...ity is one of the best in the country and encourages professional development in all aspects of the graduate program. I believe it can help me eliminate any technical misconceptions and mould me into an astute working professional besides helping realize my childhood dream .The fact that the M.Eng program gives me an opportunity to explore business track as well as the traditional computer science track has especially caught my attention. With my foundation in this field being fairly strong and my interests matching with those of the Department’s I feel I am a good fit for the graduate program here. I am sure that I will be able to match the expectations of the university, being cognizant of the dedication and hard work a Master’s course at your university demands. I look forward to being a part of your esteemed graduate program for a mutually beneficial association.
...irl into a confident young woman. About a month later, I was accepted to my top school, Fordham University. Then, to my surprise, I also received a full-ride NROTC scholarship, to Columbia University! This was beyond surreal to me, and came at the perfect time, right before my interview for Columbia University. All of these accomplishments came at once, and I was finally proud of myself.
We all have aspirations in life that we want to achieve and although everyone’s goals in life may be different we all want to end up with the same thing, a life we are proud of. For me, a life I would be proud of consists of many factors such as having a family, a job I love, and being able to achieve all my dreams and not have any regrets. Henry David Thoreau once said,“If one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life which he has imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours”. Finding a major that I will end up loving for the rest of my life is one of my many dreams and because of all my research I am one step closer to achieving it.
My best (and favorite) subject in school is Math. Ever since I was very little I have loved math, and worked very hard at it. When I do not fully understand topics I do extra problems to make sure that they become clear to me. I spend a lot of time working on math to make sure I understand the topics throughly. I have been in math clubs since 4th grade, and in 7th grade I represented my school at the MathCounts® competition where I won a two silver pins. I won the Virginia State Math Award in 7th grade, and this year I got an 800 in math on my SSAT. As a result of my hard work I am currently one of three students in my school to be in the highest math group, Precalculus.
I did not realize that I was getting more than just that. I got to meet some of the most dedicated and hardworking professors I have ever met like Dr. Dennis Kimbro. I got to experience seminars and lectures with people like Marc Lamont Hill. And to be a part of a rich and growing legacy here at Clark Atlanta University. Through Clark Atlanta University, I learned how to be a better person all around and how to succeed, because success does not come without failure.
Over the four years in highschool, I made this commitment in trying my best. It all has had paid off now as I approach graduation with a weighted GPA of 3.8 and ranking of 4 in my class. My honor classes have made me think that I can achieve anything. Hours of studying and hours on homework assignments have led me to the point where I am today. I plan to use my knowledge to help and grow the community in the
After his visit to a Shell Research Laboratory, my high school teacher in math told us in class that he was so happy with his education, because mathematics had helped him to understand the explanations and demonstrations that had been given by the Shell researchers. He said, "If you master mathematics then you can understand everything." That was certainly an exaggeration, but it nevertheless sounded like a golden message. Since I definitely wanted to have a better understanding of what was going on around me, mathematics seemed the obvious way to go. Also, if it was not much beyond high school math, then it was pretty easy in addition. What could one wish more? So I enrolled in every advanced math class offered in our high school. Pretty soon I discovered that mathematics was much more than a set of principles that helped one to solve intellectual riddles. It was not a finished system that one could aim to master after some limited time, but it was really a way of thinking, a means of expressing creativity: endless, an old established science, but still fresh and with undiscovered green meadows, nearby and far away.
There was never an emphasis on education in my household and unfortunately, I perpetuated that erroneous mentality throughout high school. Now that I have the opportunity to transfer to one of the most prestigious universities in the nation, I truly believe that I have opened a number of doors to success for not just myself, but my family and community. Being the first member of my family and one of the few in my neighborhood to attend university will be an extraordinary achievement that I hope will truly inspire those close to me. To display what one can accomplish by altering their mindset to align their values to their goals will be one of my main objectives I hope to attain if permitted acceptance.
Due to the same affinity towards Mathematics, Science and research in general, I have opted for Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry as my major subjects in high school (XII th standard), where I have scored the top marks with 91%. I have secured State 340 Rank among the 250,000 students in the Common Engineering Entrance Exam (EAMCET), it’s the only Entrance Exam for admissions into the undergraduate colleges in the state. I have also secured All India Rank of 107 ...
I feel that all successful people must make a major positive contribution to the world in some way during their lifetimes. Not everyone can do this, however, and it seems that your view on life has a major effect on your ability to do so. I hope that while developing my skills I also will develop the mindset required to make a major contribution to the world. Ultimately, I think that if I continue to participate in extracurricular activities and courses that hone my knowledge and skills I will be able to have a successful career as a computer engineer, and eventually have an impact on the world for the greater good.

My enthusiasm and the strongly committed teachers I have encountered in my life have attributed to my success in math and science. Prior to going onto ninth grade, my Math classes dating back from middle school were never mentally straining. Math appealed to me because in eighth grade, my math teacher, Dr. Christopher, would encourage her class by recognizing our achievements with small rewards such as candies and ice cream passes during lunch. Her actions sparked my interest in math. I have a natural regard for math and science. By breaking down math problems step by step, I can better understand them. ...
