Am I better prepared today for my dream career?
As I am getting closer to graduating with my degree in Business Administration, I have decided to pursue a career in the travel industry. More specifically, I would love to work as an executive officer for an airline company or an airplane manufacturing company. Information systems plays are a large role in an airline company because not only is it needed to reserve seats, but it is used in checking in, baggage claim, boarding the place, and even used when flying. The hardware, which are mainly computers are everywhere and used to confirm people’s flights. The software on these computers is essential for allowing people into the airport. Data is everywhere, from the monitor screens around the

There are also multiple procedures used to allow people into the airport, onto the plane, to get their bags, etc. Finally, people or workers are used all around to conduct all procedures and use the software. If I work for an airline company I would not be in the airport, but these five components occurring at an airport with the airline company would be vital to the success of my job. Back at the company I would be utilizing information systems through computers by extracting, and updating data to deal with clientele. I would also be using information systems by checking on other departments’ data and procedures to ensure job accuracy/safety. These five components of information systems similarly apply to working for an airplane manufacturing company. My job would consist of looking at data to deal with vendors, suppliers, and clientele. I would need to have knowledge in information systems for any job in the travel industry for presentations and to have an overall good customer service reputation. Without information systems, careers …show more content…
Virtualization, which is when one computer hosts the appearance of many computers will be necessary for my future. Virtualization will be needed to access the company’s database to confirm client’s flight reservations, purchase orders, etc. We would also need it to have flight simulators for new parts at the manufacturing company. For example, we would need to have a flight simulator that will give us all the information a real computer would and that would respond to our commands, to test the plane without having to put the actual expensive software and hardware in the plane. The second concept that can be applied to my dream job is database management system. I would need this concept to be able to have an extensive amount of data that is accurate, to control redundancy, and to have a safe backup/recovery process. As an executive officer, I need to be able to rely on database management system to give me accurate information on parts that have caused flights to take emergency landings for example. This could include all the materials used in the production of the product or vendor information. Finally, the WAN concept is essential for my dream job because I need to be able to have computers that connect between two or more different sites. For a manufacturing company, there would be multiple sites where items
Some of technology they will need to decide on will be whether to install a server computer, which is a computer on a network that performs important network functions for client computers, such as serving up Web pages, storing data, and storing the network operating system (and hence controlling the network). Server software such as Microsoft Windows Server, Linux, and Novell Open Enterprise Server are the most widely used network operating systems. As well the network operating system (NOS) routes, manages communications on the network, and coordinates network resources. It can reside on every computer in the network, or it can reside primarily on a dedicated server computer for all the applications on the network. In considering how their workers will communicate with each other in...
WestJet is the second-largest carrier in Canada, which mainly focuses on economic airlines. In decades past, WestJet expanded its destination network form all western Canadian cities to international scope. During this development period, IT played a important role. For example, electronic ticket is used in the airline reservation system. However, some IT-related issues also hinders the company’s development.

As airline industry is a competitive marketplace, the airline companies use new technologies to improve their efficiency and decrease the overhead costs, including ‘advanced aircraft engine technology, IT solutions, and mobile technology’ (Cederholm 2014). The technology changes including technology improvement, new innovation and disruptive technology. The disruptive technology need to meet the characteristics of ‘simplicity, convenience, accessibility and affordability’ (Christensen 1995). The technology changes would bring both opportunities and threats to airline companies. Since Labour cost and fuel costs occupy 50% of most airlines operating cost (Groot 2014). Therefore, if new technologies could be disruptive in the two aspects, there will be important changes to current airline
IT governance in the airline industry is specifically tied to sales and value chain management. By the late 1990s, international travel software traditionally used by travel agencies, such as SABRE, was opened up via application programming interface (API) to web developers (Nicolaou & Schick, 2011). As a result, consumers saw the advent of internet-based travel agencies, and many airlines and other travel companies began to sell directly to passengers (Buhalisa & Licata, 2002).
David Neelman realized his vision of creating an airlines company that is focused on customer service by starting JetBlue. During the startup phase or entrepreneurial stage, typically most of the companies go through the activities of marketing the service and /or product. But Neelman, perceptive of the industry needs, went about raising enough capital before starting JetBlue, as airlines industry is a capital intensive industry. His entrepreneurial style and previous experience enabled him to identify the core value of the service “To improve the passenger experience at a low cost” that he wanted JetBlue to provide. Neelman wanted to utilize technology to bring better customer experience at a low cost. Some of the technological activities that JetBlue planned include state-of-the-art revenue management system, paperless tickets etc. His in-depth experience enabled him to identify the external factors that would affect the business such as simple check-in and boarding process, hassle free ticketing procedures etc. This emphasized his knowledge of adapting to the ever changing customer needs. Neelman instilled the culture of...
Over the past few years, Internet-enabled business, or e-business, has drastically improved efficiency and revenue growth. E-business applications such as e-commerce, supply-chain management, and remote access allow companies to streamline processes, lower operating costs, and increase customer satisfaction. Such applications require mission-critical networks that accommodate voice, video, and data traffic, and these networks must be scalable to support increasing numbers of users and the need for greater
An alternate strategy for JetBlue to return to profitability is to expand the market it services. A large part of JetBlue’s business is transporting cust...
Air travel has grown in the past decade. Travel grew strongly for both leisure and business purposes. India will have nearly 800 to 1000 airplanes by 2023, it was estimated by Airbus. In spite of growth between 30 to 50 per cent in Indian aviation industry, losses of approximately 2200 crore is estimated for the current year.
Flying thousands of feet up in the sky is a dream of many young children, but very few actually end up as a pilot when they grow up. Commercial airline pilots will always be needed, but many people do not even think about choosing this as a career. Pilots have extremely important jobs. They must fly people place to place with no problems while at the controls of thousands of pounds of metal and flammable fuel, not to mention the many passengers. A pilot’s job is very risky, but it is also very rewarding.
Have you ever wondered what it 's like to have your office 30,000 feet above the ground?Aviation is a career for those interested in working with computers and the airplane.whether working on the ground preparing for a flight or in the air transporting people to their destinations pilots are always busy traveling around the world. Pilot don 't only transport people around the world but also cargo. The fact that British Airways uses their resources such as the internet (through cookies, and customers filling in forms) suggests the large amount of data available to them. This data includes a large amount of information about many individuals and could hold a huge competitive advantage over other airline companies as they can refine their service offering for each individual’s preferences. The customer enters in personal information and it is at the disposal of British Airways to gain insight into the customers’ preferences.
The Career Exploration choice that appealed to me the most was the job of a Flight Attendant. I think that traveling the world would be very exciting and as a Flight Attendant I would have a chance to travel, meet lots of different people and experience different cultures around the world. Flight Attendants do not make a lot of money at first but I think it would be ok to work up to a higher salary, especially since Zarin said that the airline pays for your expenses. The idea of being a flight attendant is a little impossible for me. I don’t think I would enjoy the constant moving around or having to deal with people all the time. However, the idea of spending at least a few years of my life traveling the world as always appealed to me. I think having job security and arrangements would allow me a safe and structured way to experience different environments.
Tourism is an industry, with air transport becoming an indispensable factor. One major growing trend in airline industry is market globalization. People travel to other countries for both business and leisure purposes, leading to 7% increment in air travel per year. As a market is globalized, those involved will evolve into global customers who go in search of suppliers running on global base. This leads to a growth in business travel due to the global involvement of companies in terms of investments, production chain, supply and customers. Thus, the participation of air transport in facilitating the world trade is prodigious. Aviation implements another economic benefit of the air transport by providing consumer welfare to individuals while considering the environmental brunt such as the air quality, congestion and noise in the proximity of airports. Air transport being highly demanding has doubled the passenger numbers since the 1980s and over the last decade, it has increased by 45%. The huge growth and development of the aviation field has benefitted in heaps regarding
Lets think about a job that allows you to soar through the air like an eagle, without a care in the world, the job of a pilot is an amazing job that provides you with three things freedom, fully using your sight, and control.
