I am fighting to discover the reasoning behind my daughter's sudden death and my dog’s sudden illness. I am doing this in order to expose the town’s lies; I already know that the water is polluted. I watched trucks dumping barrels of what we all thought was trash into our local bodies of water, but it was actual chemicals and poisons that are making everything in this town sick. I do not want everyone in the town to become sick and die like my daughter did. My dog is very sick and I believe it is because the town has so blatantly lied to us about our water supply; my stakes are high, I want to prevent my dog's death. However, if he does die, I will take him to a lab which is sure to expose the town and the lies that are being told. Major obstacles
Sometimes one must make a decision that puts to question what they believe is right, what they believe is wrong, and what they are willing to give up to make the decision. In the essay “Dog Lab” by Claire McCarthy, she recounts a story from when she was in medical school and her teacher gives them a choice on whether or not to participate in an experiment to learn about the vascular system. This experiment involves taking a perfectly healthy dog and putting him under anesthesia, cutting them open and pumping them full of different chemicals to see what they do to the heart. And then putting the dog down. Some would say that the decision is very cut and dry, either you do the experiment or you don't. But a very important thing to factor in is ho incredibly dedicated to her school work she was, in beginning of the essay she tries to explain why she became so focused in school with the phrase “My study now carried responsibility”. And she was correct, if there was ever a time that she wouldhave needed to buckle down and focus on her studies it would have been then. But she also tells ...
On 04/14/18, at approximately 1:30pm, I Deputy Warden N. Christian with Franklin County Animal Care and Control (FCACC) was dispatched to 235 N. 18th St on a nuisance dog investigation (dog owner's address). I arrived on scene at approximately 1:56pm. I met with victim Robert White. Mr. White stated he was walking in the alley behind 200 Block of Monroe Ave. A white male had a black dog approximately 6 feet away from him. As he continue to walked through the alley, the dog tried to attack him. Mr. White stated the dog was on a "retractable leash" but Mr. White noticed that the dog owner had extended the leash to the point that the dog was close enought to Mr. White. Mr. White stated he move to the opposite side of dog owner, and words
Nationwide, approximately 50 percent of all children will be bitten by a dog before they reach the age of twelve (DeIorio, “Have a Dog-Bite-Free Summer”). In Marion County, Florida, aggressive and dangerous breads of dogs are a “serious issue” for the community according to Marion County Commissioner Jim Payton (Thompson, “County drops '1 free kill'”). Responsible dog owners seem to be unaware of the problem but area residents who have been victims of these attacks have turned to the Marion County Board of Commissioners for help. The local County Commissioners have been wrestling with this issue since October of 2009 when a widow from Ocklawaha, Patricia McBee, had three of her dogs euthanized after they allegedly killed her neighbor’s cat (Thompson, “County drops ‘1 free kill’”). The need for change moved even faster after a 3-year-old little girl was attacked and killed by a dog that was chained to a tree outside her house in Citra (Lee, “Girl, 3, mauled”).
Animals become dangerous because they were maltreated by their owners and when the media has exaggerated the danger of its breed to the public. A very good example of lies in society is the concept of the people on the breed of Pit bull Terriers.
In the movie Erin Brockovich not only were children affected by the water contamination but the adults were also negatively affected. In this film the families were directly exposed to carcinogens that were used for water pressure in a multi-million dollar company located a few miles away from the home. One particular family that caught my attention was the first family that filed a case against Pacific Gas & Electric Company. Donna Jensen and her family filed a lawsuit again this company because of a real estate issue. Fortunately, Erin Brockovich worked as the lawyer's assistant and was the first individual to realize that this company was hiding the truth about the chemicals used in the facility. This information that PS&E was withholding from the local residents directly affected their health and
In “The Ways We Lie,” by Stephanie Ericsson, she defines various types of lying and uses quotations at the beginning of each description as a rhetorical strategy. Throughout the reading she uses similar references or discussion points at the beginning and ending of each paragraph. Most believe lying is wrong, however, I believe lying is acceptable in some situations and not others when Stephanie Ericsson is asked, “how was your day.” In “The Ways We Lie,” she lies to protect her husband’s feelings, therefore, I think people lie because they are afraid of the consequences that come with telling the truth.
The two companies, Beatrice Foods and J. Riley Leather Company, breached that duty. The fact that they breached that duty resulted in the continuation of many kids getting sick and dying. The plaintiff’s suffered a legal recognizable injury. Schlictmann was fortunate to prove that the plaintiffs including the residents of Woburn had the right to have clean drinking water. Under a variety government acts the drinking water should be sanitary. Both companies had a duty to care, and not to illegally dump toxic chemicals into any water source. Specially knowing they could be contaminating drinking
When initially asked about the morality of lying, it is easy for one to condemn it for being wrong or even corrupt. However, those asked are generally guilty of the crime on a daily basis. Lying is, unfortunately, a normal aspect of everyday life. In the essay “The Ways We Lie,” author Stephanie Ericsson makes note of the most common types of lies along with their consequences. By ordering the categories from least to most severe, she expresses the idea that lies enshroud our daily lives to the extent that we can no longer between fact and fiction. To fully bring this argument into perspective, Ericsson utilizes metaphor, rhetorical questions, and allusion.
In the document “How Tap Water Became Toxic in Flint , Michigan” by Sara Ganim the issue was that the residents could not get clean water from their taps . The state decided that they would save money and switch their water . As they switched , residents noticed that the water started to look funny and smell funny . Some thought it was sewage but it was really iron in the water . The Department of Environmental Quality was not treating the Flint River water with an anti-corrosive agent causing the water to have lead in addition to iron . The lead in the water lead to lead poisoning and several medical conditions .Due to all the health conditions the Doctors decided to take matters into their own hands . Patients reported having rashes and

For my third essay, I would like to write about the water crisis in Flint, Michigan. I would like to discuss this crisis because water is a necessity every human must have to survive. People depend on water, but when the water supply is tainted and unsafe for consumption, a state of emergency occurs. The water in Flint was deemed unsafe, but the issue is far from over. There are several components I would like to mention including the timeline of the crisis, the Flint River, lead contamination, alleged officials’ lack of involvement, and the non-treatment of citizens’ water. I would like give emphasis on lead levels, scientific data, and the health issues associated with lead poisoning. The lack of city involvement is also something I plan
What are lies? A lie is defined as follows: To make a statement that one knows to be false, especially with the intent to deceive. There are several ways that lies are told for instance, there are white lies, lies of omission, bold faced lies, and lies of exaggeration. No matter what type of lie that one chooses to tell many people believe that lies do more harm than good.
Approximately two to four million animals have been used in safety tests. Safety tests are conducted with a wide range of chemicals and products, including drugs, vaccines, cosmetics, household cleaners, and packing materials. This raises issues such as the ethics and humaneness of deliberately poisoning animals, thus harming them, for the sake of marketing a new cosmetic or household product.
Asymmetry also plays a role in the differentiation of real and fake emotional expressions of the face. Ekman (1980) found that when an emotion was being falsified, that one side of the face, particularly the left, would detail a stronger intensity than on the right.
"Honey," my mom yelled to me one sunny afternoon, "Go out and feed Sugar." Sugar was our dog, a big, husky lap dog. I went to our kitchen, and got some food. Then I stepped outside, into the warm, fresh August air, looking for Sugar. I glanced to where I kept Sugar, and couldn't believe my eyes. Sugar was not there. I ran to the place where Sugar slept, I saw that the leash was elegantly coiled up. I knew that Sugar could not have run away. I thought that she must have chased a deer or another animal. Then a disturbing thought hit me, Sugar might have been abducted. As I tried to push that thought out of my mind, I thought that my mom could have put Sugar out in the garage. I went to the garage to check, but unfortunately Sugar wasn?t there. ?Mom,? I cried after a couple of seconds, ?Do you know where Sugar is??
