As first quarter drew to an end my overall pieces of writing were beginning to officially improve. When the second quarter's end is around the corner, it is allowing me to reflect on all my pieces of work I have made this quarter and see all the growth I have made during the past few weeks. The writing pieces compared to last quarter have drastically changed and have improved dramatically. I have also noticed a significant change in the annotations I have made in the novel A Tale of Two Cities. The techniques and skills I have learned these two quarters will help me be able to pursue a successful finish to my high school career, my college career, and my actual career I choose to pursue in life.

I would also look for any metaphors and similes that stood out and were easy for me to identify. Sadly, those were the only three things that I was majorly looking for in the novels and those three things were indeed the quotes that I would underline in the book. But after writing my first quarter reflection, it has allowed for me to take a look back and truly look at the work I was composing and to truly see what I could work on to enhance and make sure my learning progressed. In class I realized during our class discussions that I was needing to figure out a better way for me to figure out how to correctly annotate the text. Using what I had heard in class about the website Genius it has allowed for me to read the novel, but then helps me annotate more than what I would normally just annotate. My night schedule, when we have homework out of one of the novels we are reading, is to read the text and annotate what I think should be annotated, but then to compare my annotations to the website genius and add to my annotations if I feel it is necessary. After reading our mentors notes and analyzing what we have learned through this term, I have read all assignments that were submitted before our midterm exam. This gave me chance to follow up with how I advanced my writing skills from the beginning. As it was interesting to see how I can point out the missing qualities of these essays, it was nice to see our mentor’s notes justifying my points.
Charles Dickens writes this book explaining the French Revolution, in which the social and economic systems in France had huge changes and the French monarchy collapsed. This causes high taxes, unfair laws, and the poor being mistreated. Charles Dickens shows that cruelty of other people will lead to a revolution and in addition to the revolution more cruelty will occur. He explores the idea of justice and violence through the use of ambiguous characters with positive and negative qualities, meaning that they have to different sides to them; for example, Charles Darnay, Sydney Carton, and Dr. Manette. Throughout the story of A Tale of Two Cities, Charles dickens uses ambiguous characters to shows how violence and cruelty can be stopped through the power of true sacrifice.
My analysis over the development of my writing throughout this semester. I will assess many aspects of my experiences with English 1301 up to this point in the semester. I will explain the ways by which I have blossomed as a writer during this time. I will provide brief examples of my work to show what I am basing the evaluation of my writing on. What my conceptions of writing were, at the start of, the semester and compare it to what they are now. I will clarify how my work this semester reflects the concepts of writing and reading we have been working on and studying in class. I will tell about what and how particular reading assignments have been influential in my growth of creative ideas. Lastly, my interpretation of what it means to be a writer, and how my experiences this semester has influenced my opinion on writing.

In A Tale of Two Cities, Charles Dickens’ choice of sentimental expression had an excellent effect on the readers’ responses to the characters. The use of exaggerated sentimentality helped create a clear picture of the story’s issues in the readers’ minds; it gave a feel for the spirit of the times, and made it easier to understand the characters’ points of view. It was this very sentimentality that Dickens strived to achieve.
In the past three months I feel like I have accomplished a great deal. As the semester comes to an end I find myself reflecting not only how I have survived the first semester but also what I have learned. The most important thing I have learned so far is how to become a better writer. I did not think it could really happen to me. I did not think I could handle all the work. I did not think I could actually become a better writer. Some how after all the hours of writing, and putting effort into the papers that I wrote this semester, I became a better writer. I did this because I concentrated on two very important areas, with the attitude of, if I could just become better in those then I would become a better writer. With help from an awesome teacher and a reliable tutor I have become a better writer by improving my skills in the areas of procrastination and content.

In A Tale of Two Cities, Dickens explores the concept of rebirth (physically, spiritually, mentally, and emotionally) through the exploits of Doctor Manette, Charles Darnay, and Sydney Carton. Some major keys in his ideas of being resurrected are physical and mental recovery, escaping an unworthy past for a worthy cause, and the nobility of sacrifice.

A careful reader can find parallelism on nearly every page of the book, with subjects ranging from characters to the general tone of the novel. The clearest example of parallel characters is Doctor Manette and Sydney Carton. Carton’s self-created mental imprisonment parallels Doctor Manette’s literal imprisonment. In addition to parallel characters, there is a set of two physical settings - Paris and London - that give the book its name. In these two settings, Dickens carefully crafts individual tones that help define the events that occur in each of them. These tones parallel each other, with some aspects of each being similar and others forming clear contrast. Even within these settings, variations in tone can emphasise the importance of certain events and concepts. In his novel A Tale of Two Cities, Charles Dickens creates and uses well-established tones to highlight the importance of events and themes.

Throughout this semester I have learned many ways of writing through two main essays literacy narrative and comparison and contrast. These two essays have taught me how to correctly fix my comma splices, thesis statements, and capitalization. I have engaged in numerous learning material during this summer class. Many times when I thought it would be hard to work on those three developments I never gave up. I gain more positive feedback from my teacher because he pointed out most of my mistakes I made on both literacy narrative and comparison and contrast essays to help me understand what is it that I need to work on. My development as a writer became stronger.

Over the course of the semester, I feel that I have grown as a writer in many ways. When I came into the class, there were skills I had that I already excelled at. During my time in class, I have come to improve on those skills even more. Before I took this class, I didn’t even realise what I was good at. This is the first class where I felt I received feedback on my writing that helped me to actually review my work to see what areas I lacked in and where I succeeded.
