In a world today where information is at a student’s fingertips it’s still so surprising how little students know about the world around them. It is my professional goal to use my Secondary Education, Social Studies Broad Field degree to become a High School Global Studies teacher with a creative twist. When my future students leave my classroom, I want them to have not only a greater understanding of the world events and cultures at large, but also have a great appreciation of the community culture that surrounds them. From a young age, I had a sense of other world cultures around me, and this sense of other cultures and the fact that all events are interconnected in the Internet era has made me passionate about teaching youth, exposing them …show more content…
I love writing scholarships and I most of mine are about my volunteer efforts and my passion for education. I have won: 4-H State Award: Nutrition Leadership, Sodexo Stop Hunger Grant, and Prudential Spirit of Community Award. I’ve learned some techniques to minimize the amount of time a student spends on the unnecessary legwork for each scholarship, such as finding transcripts and references and creating a portfolio to house them. Because these tools and techniques are so useful I helped create and facilitate workshops on how to successfully apply, with less time involved, for scholarships. I helped facilitate this workshop for a year and a half and even now I’m still helping through, running through the PowerPoint and editing the handouts to make them more concise. Also as important as these workshops are I have found another method of helping future possible MSU students through being a part of the research team assisting with the Blueprints to Success research project here in the Education Department. I became part of the Blueprints to Success research team mid semester last fall, not only because it sounded interesting but also because I think that it is a much-needed tool for future seniors and freshman in College. The process of applying to college and for Financial aid is confusing and through this project we will be creating a website and possibly even an app to help these student navigate the confusing lingo and processes that never seem to become less

“Never underestimate your own strength. You were born for a purpose and are blessed with the power to achieve it” (Leon Brown). I have this quote printed out and on the wall next to my door so I can see it every day as a reminder to myself. I believe that we all have a purpose on this earth and that everything we go through on the journey there has a reason whether to teach a lesson or set an example. We have places where we want to end up and goals we want to achieve. We set these goals and dreams to help us fulfill the purpose we see for ourselves. I believe my purpose is to help people in their times of need. To fulfill my purpose, I will need to use my personal, academic and career goals to create a pathway to get to where I want to be
I believe that each child is a unique individual who needs a secure, caring, and stimulating atmosphere in which to grow and mature emotionally, intellectually, physically, socially, and academically. It is my desire as a future educator to help students meet their fullest potential by providing an environment that is safe, supports risk-taking, and invites a sharing of ideas. There are two elements that I believe are essential to establishing such an environment, (1) allowing the child’s natural curiosity to direct his/her learning, and (2) promoting respect for all things and all people.
1. How do you proactively engage in your own education beyond class time and requirements? If this has not been part of your practice so far, explain why you want to be involved in this major when this is going to be asked of you.
My primary goal for going to school is to get my education so I can have a brighter future and make an impact in my community. When I go to school, I want to major in biology and obtain my bachelor's degree. After I have received my bachelor's degree, I want to start my graduate studies in medical school. My primary career goal that I want to achieve is to work in healthcare. I want to become a pediatrician, after I finish my education. I want to help children and treat them for common illnesses and diseases. I chose to do this because I want every child to be able to reach their
...blems are growing in magnitude and will neither go away nor resolve themselves. They require action by having students be trained and willing to deal with difficult and complex global issues. Students should have a degree of literacy regarding the global problems, issues, concerns, and trends that increasingly impact their lives. Through awareness students will know and understand that global issues and challenges exist and affect their lives. Awareness is a necessary prerequisite to understanding. Students will be aware that their information and knowledge on most global issues are incomplete and that they need to continue seeking information about how global and international issues are formed and influenced. Global education is a lifelong process. New global issues will emerge in the future, and new insights into current global challenges will be generated.
Getting a job is probably the most worrisome matter for college seniors. Nowadays most students deem college education as an investment that can eventually bring profits in the long run in terms of a financially successful career. To this end, a great number of students major in the most lucrative majors, which are not their actual interests. Luckily, I am able to dive into the field I love in college, and it blends with my career goal perfectly. I like teaching and conducting research, so I hope to become a psychology professor at a research university some day.
Education has always been a primary concern for my parents, who taught me that if I need to succeed in life, I have to be educated. Following their guide, I have always valued and tried to get the most of any educational opportunity I have had. Having grown up in a business family, I have always been interested in focusing my career in the business field. My Mother and Father own their own company, and they are constantly talking about business, which has inspired me to follow their path. When my parents retire, they want me to carry on their legacy. For this reason, I have decided to pursue my studies in the field of Business and Leadership at Marylhurst University. I want to pursue a well-rounded education at this established university where I also can have life experiences in the outside world, which will ultimately help me to become a successful leader in our family business.
While many Americans, and even more unfortunate is American teachers, claim that global education would harm American values and go against what America stands for (Webb), a global education presents the ability to either properly expand upon one’s knowledge of the world with accurate information about their true culture and their language, or a global education could either undeservingly demote or promote a country to a ranking it may or may not deserve. Without global education, our future generations will face unnecessary challenges and face the possibility of destroying everything that we, the world, built upon to maintain
My education goal is to further improve my art skills and I will love it if Haskell will grant me the honor of helping me improving my skills to that level.
As educators we wish to have the students gain knowledge, through our efforts, and continue to expand their minds using the basics we have taught them. In an era when so many outside interests often cloud the minds of our impressionable youth, we often wonder how we can accomplish this task.

A teacher is not what I have always wanted to be. As a matter of fact, it wasn't until I had taken several of my general studies classes that I made a commitment to teach. Having played football through middle school and high school, I just assumed that whatever I did would have to be related to football. It was, however, during a time of reflection that I thought about a former football coach and the rapport that he had with me and other players. He wanted to bring out the best in each of us. It was then that I realized that I wanted to do the same.
The learning environment connects the classroom to the community through a democratic approach. This community based learning brings the world into the classroom so students can implement social change and challenge social inequalities. The curriculum focuses on student experience and taking social action on real problems such as hunger, violence, and discrimination. It is important to instruct students to explore in group settings so they can work together to analyze and develop theories that can help each other and make a real different in the world. As a future educator, it is important to not only to teach my students the issues in our world, but how we can work together to find
