MY BROTHER SAM IS DEAD My Brother Sam is Dead is a novel that starts off in April 1775 and ends in February 1779. I would choose the Rebels side because i personally do not like Command governments or anything where the government has all the power. I like when the people have power because if the government chooses everything, they may get full of themselves and think they control the word and make everything their way which isn’t right because you can’t change history and you can’t rewrite history. I don’t think that there should be a war because if you have a Democracy government then there wouldn’t have to be wars with the government and the people because the people are getting what they want and there wouldn’t be anymore repeats of history like in the novel. Then there is Tim, the younger brother of the two, Tim is ten-ish. He tries to stop his brother to protect him but he can't change his brothers mind. Betsy is Sam's girlfriend and they both are against the British. Betsy and Sam try to make Tim spy on the others to see what they are saying about the war and stuff so Sam can stay updated since he is hiding out away from home for the war. Sam and Tim's father's name is Life, he doesn't like Sam going into war because he is a Tory and is loyal to the King, he doesn't like the idea of war. He eventually gets jumped by a cowboy and is captured. Life is put on a prison ship and he eventually dies because of an outbreak in a disease called cholera. After Tim and his mother realize that their father/husband has died Susannah, the mother, begins heavily drinking. Tim's friend Jerry Stanford is captured by the British and is put on the prison ship and dies of the same disease that Life dies of. Tims other friend was decapitated and Sam is killed when he comes back from the war because he is accused of stealing cattle and General Israel Putnam, Commander of the Continental Army, sentences Sam's death.
