Before this class I didn’t know how to read a book or remember what I was reading. My pace was also a little slower. I also had more mistakes that were made when reading. When I would read I would usually fake it and act like I knew what I was doing, also I didn’t read much because I couldn’t comprehend it. This class has helped me improve my reading skills and it has impacted my performance. I have noticed a change in my pace, comprehension and in my accuracy. My first BRI I didn't understand how to read or comprehend and I wasn’t a very fluent reader. On my first BRI my pace was 130 wpm, my accuracy was 7 and my reading comprehension was 30%. Now when I took this last BRI my pace is 152 wpm, my accuracy is 0 and my comprehension is 70%.
I have noticed that everything went up alot and now I understand how to comprehend and read. These changes occurred because of the fluency activities and the article of the week. I think the fluency activity has helped because we get timed for a minute and that times our pace and the amount of errors we have made. The fluency activity helps because it is repetitive and it gets you used to words that you haven’t really been familiar with. The article of the week helps because you read and make connections, and comments about what you have read. I have developed these skills because doing that helps reading comprehension. This change impacted me and my performance because I can now find a good book and understand what is going on in it. So that means I will be reading more often. Reading is important for your adult life to because there isn’t a job where you don’t read. Now that my reading is getting stronger I will continue to read. Many of my reading skills have changed do to the fluency activities and the article of the week. This class has helped and done so much for me and my reading.
On the first day I was in middle school, the teacher let every student introduce him/herself. I was so excited to let others know me. When it was my turn, I went up and started introducing myself and sharing my stories. Students were interested in and concentrate on what I was saying. However, when I talked about my hobbies, a lot of students were laughing and seem thought I was unreasonable. I said my hobbies were shooting game and making building models. At that time I feel disappoint and sad because I didn’t know what’s wrong with my hobbies and why students laughed at
The more effort we use in studying the better results we will get. Certain people have a hard time comprehending school work from the first grade to throughout high school. For example, in the article “Saved,” the life of Malcolm X, the reader is told about Malcolm’s struggle with learning .One problem he had was he couldn’t write or read his own hand writing. The way he began to overcome his handicap was that he would copy and memorize words from the dictionary. When he entered prison he was illiterate. He could neither read nor write. Later on, to help his reading comprehension, he would spend time in the prison library. Spending an hour every day in the library helped to increase his comprehension.
Especially with the help of my professor Ms. Piper. I was still having trouble on material on writing, but she helped me by teaching us the writing process, how to revise our drafts, and how to use outlines to help us. She has also taught us ways of breaking down paragraphs in piece of writing to help us understand what we are reading about. I feel with this new approach it opened my eyes on a way to help me excel on my writing, and reading. I am an excellent writer and reader than I was before. I am not the greatest, but I know if I just keep practicing on what I learned, and also learning I will become better.
This course has provided me with useful ideas that were practical that I have used in my everyday life. For example, it helped to think critically before reacting to a decision that involved problem-solving and solution - oriented. I am more a fair-minded person and learned that every person is in control of his or her life. Thus, knowing how to use critical thinking as a writer, would help me to become a writer.
Focus student number one was able to achieve a higher accuracy on this learning goal than the previous time. The student was lacking confidence on wanting to recall information. I reminded the student that it was okay to guess and that it was just us in the room. He didn’t have to be afraid to be wrong, and that any attempt was a good attempt. The student was able to make appropriate guesses, and was encouraged to advocate for himself if he didn’t hear the target. The student was allowed repetition of the question, and seemed to do better if the question was repeated twice. When I allowed appropriate wait time for the student to process, he was able to self correct. For example, if the student said, “pant/shoe,” he was able to use his auditory feedback loop and determine that was not what I said and that he was leaving off a plural /s/.
There are many different types of students. All students have their own way of studying and learning material. A student’s attitude is the most determining factor in how well a student performs academically. Some students are eager to learn and try their best; however, some students could care less about learning. Each year students decide whether they will succeed or fail in school. All students fall into one category or another. Students can be classified into three categories: Overachievers, Average Joes, and Do Not Give a Rips.
...gh it may be less measureable, the student himself will notice a change. Progress will be evident in that he or she will complete reading assignments in less time, and find more free time has become available. To the average student, this is probably the most pragmatic reason to learn how to speed read.
Based on the requirements that are guided for this class commitment I believe that my class involvement score should be in the 45-50 point range. The reason I believe that my class commitment score should be in this range is not only because I come to class each day ready to give an opinion on the task at hand, but it is mainly because I am improving as an individual throughout the assigned reader responses that are due weekly. I am now finding that I have the ability to express my thoughts and opinions in a much better way than I have done before. Alongside that statement I make sure that I am in class every single day, even when I’m not at my fullest potential. I make sure that I give a stance, and explain how I feel upon these different
This class, however, has shown me that proofreading is a skill I have yet to master. I often correct the mistakes in my paper in my head while I read them and do not even notice it, so this class has allowed me to see this flaw and learn to slow down and take my time while I am proofreading. This flaw has, however, been decreased greatly due to the various drafts required for each paper. These drafts allow me to proofread over the material mutiple times so that I can catch these little mistakes I make.
Reading more improves a child’s reading and writing skills. According to the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES), “Twenty-six percent of children who were read to three or four times in the last week by a family member recognized all letters of the alphabet. This is compared to 14 percent of children who were read to less frequently.” Reading can improve and expand many basic skills including: writing, grammar, and vocabulary. While reading a book it can help with sentence structure and finding context clues. For instance, when a child doesn’t know the meaning of a word in a book, he/she can use context clues to define the unknown word. Some may think that when children read they are wasting time, but it aids in safety of a child.
Things I’ve benefited a lot is working with others during vocab time as well as discussing with the class of what a book was about or what is the meaning of certain metaphors that the authors use such as the green light from Gatsby. Hands on Activities help my learning process and so do lectures even tho they might be tedious to some.
Reading has become a big significance in my life on how I am reading books that are hard to read. Once I got into high school, reading helped me to be successful by completing assignments correctly. Even in college, I have read scholarly articles for my speech class, and since I have practice reading, I found it easy to read and understand harder texts. I also used my reading skills on major test, like the ACT, to be able to answer all of the questions. I always thought reading in my mind was to be able to comprehend and appreciate the work that was put into the book. The best feeling of reading is when I get into the book and I visualise all the characters and scenes in my mind like a movie.I bet you have experienced that before considering you are a reading teacher. I have became a much better reader than I have before and in order for that to happen, I had to read! It took time, but reading more and more has shaped me into a person who likes to

There are many feelings about learning how to be a better writer and a better critical thinker. Sometimes is fun to write and sometimes is not fun at all. The things I like about learning from this class was how to write in details and be specific about it and think with more in details and be specific as well. And by That i can express how I feel throughout my writing and it was very helpful skill for me to learn. The things I didn 't like about learning from this class was when I wrote a paper I would always have to fixed it later but it was a great strategy for me to improve on my writing and
For me, after finishing this class, I have gain a lot of understanding on those three categories. I learned how to love poetry and have the wanted of reading and learning more about it. Overall, learning in this English class was really fun, I enjoy learning new experiment on how to look at little details as clues and overview old lessons that I should have remember from high school. From my experiment, all you need to do is show up in class, don’t get nervous make friends with new people, listen to the lecture, and most important is to have
