Muscular Injuries are common and with proper knowledge can be easily treated or prevented. There are three types of muscular injuries; strains, sprains and contusions. They are the most common reason for inactive games in the NFL, but you don’t have to be in the NFL to “pull” a muscle. Muscular injuries are common to all people whether the activity be athletic or simply recreational. A strain is injury to muscles or tendons. Tendons are cords of fiber that connect muscles to bones. The most common place for strains to occur is in the leg, foot, or back. Strains are commonly caused by training and technique errors. Usually strains are found with those who have had technical errors during excersize. For example, you may strain your glutes by squatting improperly. Technical injuries can be avoided by proper technique and posture. A training error is simply the overuse and stress over time on a specific muscle. If your were to continuely stress a specific muscle for physically to long, you could easily be effected by a muscle strain. Any person could be injured with a muscular injury but you are most prone to this kind of injury if you have a medical condition that limits your athletic …show more content…
This impact crushes the muscular fibers underneath the skin without breaking the skin. Discoloration of skin may occur due to blood collecting around and over the injury. Usually contusions are minor and can heal quickly on there own. But sometimes you may have more severe contusions that can limit your athletic abilities. To reduce swelling and pain of minor contusions, the RICE protocol is advised. For more severe contusions, it is advised that you see a doctor. You would most likely be checked for severe muscle damage and/or nerve injuries. Over the course of a few days, the swelling and pain should go down. After your healing is done, stretching is advised to regain your range of
Emery-Dreifuss muscular dystrophy is a rare form of muscular dystrophy characterized by early onset contractures of the elbows, achilles tendons and post-cervical muscles with progressive muscle wasting and weakness It is also associated with heart complications like cardiomyopathy and arrhythmia which in both cases can lead to death. Cardiomyopathy is a heart disease which affects the muscles of the heart. In cardiomyopathy is muscles get rigid, enlarged or thick. They also sometimes changed by scar tissues. On the other hand arrhythmia is a disorder with the rhythm or rate of heartbeat. The heart can beat fast, which is called tachycardia or it could be beating too slow, which is called bradycardia. Emery-Dreifuss muscular dystrophy is characterized by early onset of contractures and humeroperoneal distribution. Humeroperoneal refers to effects on the humerus and fibula. The genes known to be responsible for EDMD encode proteins associated with the nuclear envelope: the emerin and the lamins A and C.

Sports injuries can affect bones or soft tissues such as ligaments, muscles, and tendons. When playing in a sport there is always a chance you might get an injury. Children ages from five to 14 years old have the highest rate of injuries, children are more likely to suffer injuries due to their immature reflexes and are less likely to recognize risks. Of course as you know contact sports are one of the highest rated, and with that being said most injuries happen during practice rather than in an actual game. When dealing with sports 95% of the time injuries are minor soft tissue traumas, like bruising
There are many ways you can prevent injuries from happening before they do occur. Make sure you lift the right amount of weight to ensure that your body won’t wear down or you won’t injure yourself. Lifting more than you need to will only make your body worse. Using poor form can get you hurt quicker and easier than any other way. Make sure that you are using the correct form even if that means hiring a trainer or having a spotter. Workouts that you know can help because you will know the correct position. Workouts without machinery and weights have a lesser risk of hurting you. Cassidy says, “Years of intense workouts take a toll on your body..... Cartilage wears down and muscles, tendons, and ligaments can become less limber” (1).
Evidence of lifting weights can be traced back to the origins of man. As far back as cave painting and scrolls, there exists evidence of weightlifting. Initially as an expression of strength, to competition and functional training, weightlifting has carved its path through the ages. It has taken on a new role in the modern world; athletic training. With an entirely new emphasis in sports on speed, strength, and flexibility; weightlifting is more popular than ever. Unfortunately, young athletes often do more harm than good by injuring themselves lifting. When these uneducated lifters try to jump right into a program, lifting more than they should, an injury is imminent. What is overlooked, is that when weightlifting is done correctly, it has a great potential to prevent injuries instead of cause them. Understanding how the body works, using proper technique on the appropriate lifts, and participating in regular physical activity can greatly reduce the risk of athletic injuries.

(“Data & Statistics,” 2012 April 6) Muscular dystrophy is a group of genetic diseases defined by muscle fibers that are unusually susceptible to damage. There are several different types of muscular dystrophy some of which shorten the affected person’s lifespan. (“Muscular dystrophy: Types and Causes of each form,” n.d.) There is a long history of the disorder but until recently there wasn’t much knowledge of the cause. (“Muscular Dystrophy: Hope through Research,” 16 April 2014) Symptoms are obvious and can be seen as soon as a child starts walking. (“Muscular Dystrophy,” 2012 January 19) Although muscular dystrophy mostly affects boys, girls can get it too. (“Muscular Dystrophy,” 2012 January 19) There is no cure for muscular dystrophy but there are several types of therapy and most types of muscular dystrophy are still fatal. Injuries can be common while participating in organized sports, competitions, training exercises, or fitness activities says Darice Britt. “Poor training methods, inadequate warm-up, and lack of conditioning are a few of the causes of sports injuries.” (Britt) Although on the other hand, Apostolos Theophilou, DPT, clinical coordinator of the Physical Therapist Assisting program at South University says that Injuries can be caused by a combination of those things, not necessarily the only reasons. “Fatigue and overuse are also significant contributors to an injury, and not excluding also the psychosocial aspects and dehydration that cause athletes to be prone to injuries.” (Theophilou)
