Mulan is one of my favorite Disney movies. I know the movie from start to finish and have watched it plenty of times. One of my favorite scenes from this movie is the scene where General Li Shang begins to train his men for war. Everyone from this scene starts off as the weakest link then becomes strong and capable of going to fight for their country. The music in this scene is called “I’ll Make A Man Out of You.” Donny Osmond vocally sings the song of this scene, accompanied by other characters from Mulan. The genre is pop. The original music for this scene gives one thoughts of being determined and motivated. Whenever I watch this scene from the movie, I am always ready to go to war right along with Mulan and her mates. The song I chose
to for the scene is called “I’m Walking” by gospel singers Mary Mary. I chose this song because it gives a similar vibe, yet it differs so much by the sound of the song. This song was chosen to show that Mulan had faith to keep going even when getting through each day was difficult at military camp. The song gives me an ambitious feeling, which is similar to the first, but also a spiritual one as well which is not present in the original song. Overall, I never knew how much music can truly contour a scene, whether for drama, comedy, or scary scenes. The dynamics of music being placed in scenes are very important as well. The first and second songs have similar meanings, but totally different connotations. The original music for this scene makes me think of a girl who is having trouble getting through obstacles, yet brave enough to continue despite the first impression that was given to General Li Shang. The song I chose makes me think of this scene the represents a girl who is having trouble thriving through mishaps, yes spiritually never feels discouraged or gives up. Again, these are similar, yet dynamically different.
In the book Our America: Life and Death on the South Side of Chicago, LeAlan Johns and Lloyd Newman, as two kids grow up in ghetto, document their life from 1993 to 1996 to show the rest of the America the reality of living in a poor black neighborhood. Through vast interviews, diaries and monologues, Johns and Newman provide a new perspective on the ongoing issues in the ignorant black community; they encourage the black residents to express their point of views on gang, drug, crime, and they also address their hope. Since this book is story with long time span and fragmental writing styles, it is impossible to finish the soundtrack for chapters in detail within eight songs. Therefore, if I am going to be the music composer of the movie based on this book, I would choose eight songs for the following eight themes.
It is also the piece that had enough of an effect to make the evil man go away, in the film, Fantasia. My strongest reaction to this piece, is the warm and chilled feeling I get hearing it. The idea of developing “chilled” bones from music is amazing. I arrived at this certain place, by truly diving into the song. I really listened to it, and could hear the seriousness in the singer’s voice. I could hear and understand the passion that the musicians felt when they pressed the piano’s keyboards. The singing, along with the instruments complimenting, is astonishing. I caught myself listening to this piece during the interview, and I could imagine even an evil monster falling in love with this tune enough to turn good. I felt the drama and power in the singing, and the seriousness in the playing of the
Overall, the Disney movie, Mulan, demonstrates gender roles, socialization of gender roles, and consequences of breaking the gender roles. By Mulan going to war for her father, in China, many things were at risk, life, honor, and the country of China, itself. Displaying the characteristics a man had was the only way for Mulan to survive, granted, she was not great at displaying woman characteristics in the first place. Being caught in war, as a woman, meant death, but Mulan was lucky for her bravery when saving Captain Li Shang, for he spared her life, which allowed Mulan to help save China and the emperor in the end. Even though China had very strict gender roles, Mulan broke them to save her father’s life and became the person she was meant to be.
Juror #1 originally thought that the boy was guilty. He was convinced that the evidence was concrete enough to convict the boy. He continued to think this until the jury voted the first time and saw that one of the jurors thought that the boy was innocent. Then throughout the movie, all of the jurors were slowly convinced that the boy was no guilty.
William Shakespeare once said, “[My] honor is my life; both grow in one; take honor from me, and my life is done.” The idea is touched upon in both the book Woman Warrior by Maxine Hong Kingston as well as Disney’s Mulan were family honor is more important than anything else. Mulan was directed by Tony Bancroft and Barry Cook, and produced by Walt Disney Pictures. The film Mulan retold the story of a woman warrior who took her father’s place in battle and became a savior of China. The movie uses many elements from the original story told in the chapter “White Tigers,” but adds many modern twists in order to make the story more appealing for a newer generation. In both stories of Fa Mu Lan the elements of sacrifice, silence and voice, cultural practices of ancestor worship and filial piety, and Chinese stereotypes are present.
...sh and adore. However, next time, do not let yourself be so easily grabbed by the catchy musical numbers and seemingly revolutionary story that is told. Yes, Mulan is an unorthodox heroine who changes all the rules, but she does so by conforming to a flawed system and affecting change from the inside, under the guise of a man. In lieu of doing it as a woman, it is not as girl power filled as many of us would like to believe. She, for the most part, affects all of this change as a man. Once she’s discovered, all her hard work in the training and the relationships she’s forged are all tossed to the wind and she’s quickly relegated back to her place as a lowly woman. However, despite its flawed execution in being a girl power story, it embodies a quintessential feel-good, be true to your heart film that will leave you wanting to affect change in the world around you.
In any movies, the theme songs are always important because they are considered an indirect tool that leads the viewers to the stories of the films. The theme song of Mummy Returns emphasizes place and time, and people can hear and realize many instruments were used. At the beginning, music is risen by the drums and th...
The music in Battle Scars also aids in setting the tone. The music creates a feeling of sadness in the listener. Throughout the song, a piano is slowly played in a mournful way in the background. This is a common method of generating a sad mood in the audience. In the famous composition by Beethoven
The song is harmonious with the theme of the film and it becomes sad that even Radio Rahim could not heed to the message of the song. He is portrayed as the perpetrator of the fire that burnt down Sal’s shop. With its ironical message of fighting for power, the song is important especially at this moment when major conflicts are caused by racial bitterness. During the year of the filming, the track used to play frequently when instances of war would arise (Wodak and Martin 576). The idea that the boom box also went down in the fire was significant as it points out to the fact that war only leads to loses, hence the need for civilized ways to solving
In particular, “the film features two Chinese folk songs, Song of the Four Seasons and Songstress of the World, which are considered essential to the film’s success” (87, Historiography and Sinification). These two songs and other aspects of the film become a part of the film’s attempt at Sinification, or making things Chinese as defined in discussion. In this film and many others “filmmakers featured popular Chinese tunes in the narrative as an audio code of national authenticity” and “inserted a local Chinese signature” (87, Historiography and Sinification). The Song of the Seasons is therefore a part of the Chinese story depicted in this film, not only because of its tune, which is reminiscent of traditional music, but its content, a reference to the Japanese invasion of Manchuria, as pointed out in discussion. This song is also a story of the suffering of a young widowed woman. Music is a universal language for a reason; the audience is able to immediately connect via emotion to the sad tune, despite its foreignness to outside observers, and sympathize with the subject of the song. Through the transmittance of emotion, which acts as the human story in this case, the Chinese folk song enables the audience to sympathize more about the plight of the women associated with the song: Xiao Hong and the widowed young woman. If these two characters represent women
After finishing the movie Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, I sat on the floor of my dorm room and cried for at least two hours. The movie had an immediate and profound affect on my emotional state, and has continued to do so despite repeated viewings. I am not an incredibly sensitive person and was thus curious as to what emotional fount the filmmakers had tapped. Such a powerful reaction to a generic and nonspecific work is a rare, but memorable occurrence, and can create a cult following, as seen in the Twilight saga, Harry Potter series, and Star Wars trilogy. These books and films amassed massive fan bases filled with loyal fans willing to fork over money and time to support their favorite stories. Such dedication and widespread
Mulan tells that the story of brave Mulan. Mulan did not want her elderly father to fight in the war, so she disguised as a man and joined in her father 's army. Finally, Mulan defeated the Huns and Shan Yu (leader of the Huns) with her partners in barracks. This Disney film portrays the conflict perspective, feminism, and symbolic interaction perspective.
Mulan pushes gender inequality by reinforcing masculine and feminine stereotypes through the songs that it presents throughout the movie. The roles of what it means to be a man is simply laid out within the influential song, “I’ll Make a Man Out of You.” This song occurred when the fresh new soldiers appeared to be very weak and unfit, so Captain Shang sang of how they must become strong like real men should be. Captain Shang asks the question, “did they send me daughters, when I asked for sons?” (Mulan), implying that women are unfit for the conditions of
The best Disney’s movie to watch as a family is The Lion King. The Lion King is for all ages. This movie talks about our society. Some of the themes, coming of age, society and class, still affects us. Even the music affects us in so many ways, that you are speechless. This movie has a lot of african music. The music of The Lion King has improvisation and call and response which makes the music in the movie even better. Now enough of the movie lets talk about the music.
Through the use of different musical techniques including dynamics, key choice, call and response pattern and rhythm, this song has been able to enhance the movie by establishing important aspects of this movie. This song does very well to create a mood and setting for this song and the movie that could not be created by images. The positive and uplifting mood of the song is very important as it helps to show the hope and inspiration that Simba brings to the rest of the animal kingdom.
