I believe that I am a strong candidate to be considered for the MSW program at NC State looking at my previous and current dedication through my academic improvement and life experience. I believe I bring in valuable experiences that may contribute in the social work field and study. One thing that I want the reader to know is that I have overcome a lot of things in my life to be where I am today. As previously mentioned, I have had tough life as a child before coming to the United States. Even after moving to this great country that has given me the opportunity to pursue my dreams, few of the obstacles that I faced and had to endure was cultural adjustment and language barrier. Given that English is my third language, I had difficulty to find survivor tools to help me success and adjust to the the culture. These experiences have coached and prepared me for better outcome. I am aware of the MSW Advanced program requirement for a student coming with a BSW degree. I have worked hard to obtain a GPA of 3.5 to facilitate my admission to the MSW program. Also, by Looking throughout my records, it shows how diligence I had been throughout my school years. There were classes that I had struggle to understand the materials due to the language issue. Given the fact that English is my third language, I faced difficulties understanding the language with test. For example, the class that was enrolled two semester ago (nutrition) had put down my GPA and I had to work hard to increase my GPA. One main issue that I had with nutrition was understanding the language that was composed in the exam. I believe there is always a room for a change and improvement. To show this, I have tried to increased my GPA by 3.42. I know by the time I complete my BSW degree, I will have a GPA that would best fit the criteria of the MSW
The main component I look for in college is their commitment to further my studies. I feel this college will provide an ingenious culture within the science field, therefore rendering myself with the building blocks necessary to later pursue the medical field. Not only does UNCW devote itself towards their student’s undergraduate years, but also by providing Professional pathways such as Pre-Medicine, students such as myself can go into Professional schools better prepared. In addition to my interest in the academics the school has to offer, I also marvel at the amount of extracurricular activities available to the student body. One student organization in particular is the Greek Life. When my mother attended this school, she was an avid member
I knew I loved to help others but it was not until I was an emerging adult that I knew what my calling was. My devotion to improve the quality of life for those who are disadvantaged is one of the reasons I have chosen to pursue a Master’s in Social Work. My perseverance has prepared me for a career in medicine. The path towards becoming a physician can be long and challenging, necessitating the ability to endure. My ability to bounce back from setbacks and mistakes has solidified throughout my journey. One of the cornerstone experiences of my personal development occurred during high school. My determination led to me my graduating as valedictorian of my class, while balancing three varsity sports and several extracurricular activities. There are a lot of reasons why I chose to pursue pharmacy as my career and they all point to the most important reason: pharmacy is a great fit for my life and is something I have become increasingly passionate about. It started when I was researching careers with my parents and my dad suggested pharmacy and, simply put, it sparked my interest because at the time it was one of the few things I thought I would not hate doing. A healthcare career has always been where I put myself in the future, mainly because most of my family members are in the healthcare field. However, I have never been one that could directly help the wounded or deal with anything gory, but am very intrigued by the growing science of pharmacy. As I continue exploring pharmacy, the more I enjoy learning about it and feel like I could excel in this career.

My current job as a Behavioral Intervention Specialist for Bakersfield City School District has motivated me to pursue my masters in social work. Working with troubled students on a daily basis has allowed me to see the great need for social workers at schools. Whoosh!A bed whizzed by, surrounded by about 6 medical personnel. “What’s going on?” I thought immediately with apprehension. I knew whatever was happening it was not ideal. Ensuring I was not in the way, I stood on my toes to see what demanded so much attention. To my astonishment, I saw a coin sized hot-pink little girl. She could not have been bigger than two quarters lying side by side. She was struggling! Even with all the procedures the doctors were executing to save her life, she was performing the most work.
As a student who began her college career without specific objectives, I never thought I would be writing a personal statement for an application to receive a Master’s Degree in the social work profession. However, I feel now that there is no other future for me than that of offering my education and personal commitment to vulnerable individuals in order to stabilize their lives. After careful consideration of all areas of social work, I have found that my main area of interest is in providing resources and encouragement for individuals with disabilities to gain the freedom to live independent lifestyles without discrimination. My personal goal in this profession is to make every possible effort in assisting these individuals with finding the means to satisfy their needs.
I came to GW as a first-year resident and completed five years of training, to include four years of residency and a one-year fellowship in minimally invasive gynecologic surgery. Since early on in my training, I was completely devoted to advancing women's health through providing quality care surgical procedure. After graduation, I worked on amassing all the data we had from vast prior experience in the field to share with the scientific community the care we provide at GW and advance surgical practices by evidence showing improved patient outcomes with minimally invasive surgery. To date, we have multiple functional laparoscopic and robotic databases on all the primary gynecologic procedures. We have used those databases to publish several peer-reviewed articles in leading gynecologic journals and are in the process of completing a couple of the largest cohorts on single-site myomectomy and abdominal cerclage in the nation. This practice makes our department at GW a champion in the change achieved in the surgical care provided to women in the
