Throughout my years of school many teachers have helped lead me to what I plan on becoming, but Mr. Seal has inspired me to become a political journalist. While taking his AP Government and Politics class I grew to love politics. He was extremely passionate towards what he taught and even related government to things that we would know of. Everyday he would have a funny comic on the screen and would instantly dive into the discussion. We had many debates where he sat and listened through all and even would interject his own thoughts and opinions. His class was incredible effective. Mr. Seal would strongly encourage us to keep up with the current presidential election for project points, and I did just what he said. I loved seeing Fox News or CNN talk to each candidate, questioning why they are the next face for America or if they are a complete fraud. I grew passionate listening to Mr. Seal talk about these debates. He surely helped me plan my life out with a major of mass communications and a minor in political science, along with an additional three years of law schools just so I can be ever so knowledgeable. Seal also showed us a video called "Journey's with George" where Alexandra Pelosi was apart of George W. Bush's campaign and went from state to state with him and a bunch of other people involved in the media to get the scoop. I was quickly drawn to the position she held and she even mentioned that if your candidate wins you have a strong chance of becoming apart of the White House Press. I knew quickly that I wanted to be apart of that. Mr. Seal spent a week discussing media and its involvement in the world. He said it was the eyes for the people, and I remember feeling inspired by that. People need media to stay informed he continued on, he even told us how as teenagers we are more connected with what is going on in the world than ever before. I find it is important to stay up to date with current events, but especially a political
In 1893, Queen Lili’uokalani of Hawaii gave up her throne to the United States of America. About five years after in 1898, Hawaii was officially annexed and became a part of the U.S.A. During this time, the Hawaiian people were bitter and mournful as they watched the foreigners slowly take over their kingdom. Many foreigners came to Hawaii to achieve one goal, to increase the power of foreigners and decrease the power of Native Hawaiians. The kingdom of Hawaii was overthrown with the use of force and was unethically taken. Although Hawaii received benefits that were mainly in their economy, it still does not make up for the wrongful taking of the Hawaiian kingdom.
Romeo and Juliet and The Outsiders Argumentative Essay The scared and bewildered look coming off of Johnny’s face, and the repentance and sorrow of Romeo. These were some of the unaccustomed feelings that not only the characters felt after they had just brutally murdered someone, but the audience felt as well. If only Romeo or Johnny knew what their future was going to be like, they could have saved themselves from the tragedy. Johnny is a character from a young adult fiction novel, The Outsiders, that took place in the mid-1960’s.
Have you ever felt stuck? Wherever you are, it’s the absolute last place you want to be. In the book Into the Wild, Chris McCandless feels stuck just like the average everyday person may feel. Chris finds his escape plan to the situation and feels he will free himself by going off to the wild. I agree with the author that Chris McCandless wasn’t a crazy person, a sociopath, or an outcast because he got along with many people very well, but he did seem somewhat incompetent, even though he survived for quite some time.
Holden tries to preserve his own innocence, and the innocence of others by not letting go of childhood memories and through his desire to suspend time. Holden views the adult world as corrupt and full of phonies. He admires childhood because of how it is free of corruption, and untouched by the adult world. IN order to preserve his own innocence Holden often attaches himself to childhood memories. The Museum of NAtural History is one of Holden’s favourite places . He mentions that his grade one teacher Miss. Aigletinger used to take his class there every saturday. While writing about the museum he says, “The best thing, in that museum was that everything always stayed right where it was” (121). This shows how Holden wants to preserve his innocence because he expresses how he likes how everything stayed the
The definition of grit is simple; it means being passionate about long term goals, and showing stamina to pursue them, but should students in public schools have a class dedicated to a grit-focused curriculum? This has become a major topic of discussion among teachers and mentors. Angela Duckworth, a professor of psychology at the University of Pennsylvania, claims grit is not a fixed quality but one that can be developed. Many disagree with her statement. Grit is something everyone all have within themselves, but some just do not utilize this characteristic as often or as well as others. Grit is a puzzling concept. Duckworth has had an obsession with grit for over a decade. Her obsession started when she visited West Point,
The Turn of the Screw by Henry James has been the cause of many debates about whether or not the ghosts are real, or if this is a case of a woman with psychological disturbances causing her to fabricate the ghosts. The story is told in the first person narrative by the governess and is told only through her thoughts and perceptions, which makes it difficult to be certain that anything she says or sees is reliable. It starts out to be a simple ghost story, but as the story unfolds it becomes obvious that the governess has jumps to conclusions and makes wild assumptions without proof and that the supposed ghosts are products of her mental instability which was brought on by her love of her employer
“Justice cannot be for one side alone, but must be for both” (Roosevelt). The goal of America’s legal system as we know it is that everyone is given an equal opportunity to stick up for what they may or may not have done, as described by former first lady Eleanor Roosevelt. Also this is what officials strive for, it is not always the case. Facts can be skewed, distorted, or misrepresented to make one side seem to be guilty without a doubt and to make the other side seem as if they have done nothing wrong. The Crucible by Arthur Miller begins and ends with one-sided accusations of witchcraft. It all results from a group of girls who had been dancing in the woods. After two fall sick, the accusations begin. The girls who were dancing, especially Abigail Williams begin blaming others to look less guilty themselves. Accusations are flying left and right so that soon, hundreds are in jail and over a dozen are executed. Abby’s main goal is to get rid of Elizabeth Proctor, so she can be with John Proctor, a man she previously had an affair with. However, John is not interested in Abby and his

Video games have become a hot topic recently. There have been a lot of controversy over whether to play or not to play. The controversy is due to them being arguably more captivating than all other forms of entertainment. Video games narrate an epic tale like no other form of entertainment can. You can become immersed in video games, because of this they are both a highly entertaining escape from the real world and a complete waste of time.
My high school career is coming to an end, and I will be turning 18. I officially will be entering the “adult” world. These past few months, my whole life has been a rollercoaster of events. Some events, including choosing what college to attend, cutting off and creating new relationships with friends and boyfriends, to finishing up a strong senior year. I am caught up between the innocence of childhood and the harsh realism of adulthood with no looking back. In the book The Catcher In The Rye, the main character Holden Caulfield is entering the punitive reality of growing up and transforming into an adult. I can connect myself to Holden’s character very strongly. Holden says, “…What I have to do, I have to catch everybody if they started to
Mr. Perry Weissman may be the greatest teacher that I have ever had. He doesn’t teach his students about English like he probably should have, but instead about life. He was 71 years old and had been teaching since the very beginning of my old high school; from the very first class, he showed his wild personality and kindred spirit, and everyone could tell it has lasted all 40 years of teaching. He is a giant health freak and always ate organic food (which probably explains why he has been teaching for so long), no matter what he would always offer some of his healthy food just because he didn’t want anyone to eat junk food. Mr. Weissman changed my life in one day by teaching about life, death, and purpose.
He made friends with the popular crowd to gain more insight and met different types of people. He found out what teachers are really like and how they interact with their students. In one case, he found a teacher that hated the school system and that only taught his way. Oppositely, he meet the teacher that wanted to be every ones friend (well everyone that is popular) more than teach the class. Students gossiped and cursed in class and the teachers would just join in the conversation. The school system never followed the state procedures until the state did 6 year checkups, requiring a cram of the state procedures. Students bullied other students, including special education kids and got away with it. High school was rough and he was witnessing it head
I am Jewish. None of my best friends are, so I stand out. People say “are you Hannukan?” Or “are you a seder?” They know nothing about being Jewish. They will never know the joy of flipping latkes, or eating gelt while playing dreidel, or how good it feels to do Tikkun Olam. They don’t know what is under the top of the iceberg, because why would someone of some other place want to dive under there in the first place? They have their own iceberg that they will constantly slip on anyway, so why should they dive under ours? They don’t know, it feels like they will never know what it is like to be Jewish.
Along with finding my passion for theater, I also found one of my favorite teachers during my time in Junior High. His name was Mr. Rodrigue, and he was my homeroom and science teacher for both seventh and eighth grade. He was one of the first teachers that was ever real with me. He was a very open and honest teacher who treated his students like adults. Mr. Rodrigue had this wit and sense of humor that made him more personable than any of my other teachers.
He was my favorite english teacher I have had out of all the ones he's the one who helped me the most. When I moved onto High school I had started writing stories seriously I made an account online where that is about writing stories for others to see, they were an outlet, I couldn't stop doing I loved looking at others then going from what they had an writing down storylines and thinking of how I could make it better, or taking a book I liked, then going online and writing the story sequel but in my perspective with people I believed would play the person or who I believed the character reminded me of and I would use them in the storyline and just sorta make it up from there. Or even taking little day dreams I had and writing short stories or as I called them Imagines. Where I would take a day dream and use a person I pictured portrayed the imagine well and write them and publish them. As I got a little older around sophomore year I stopped over the summer because I kinda forgot, but once I came back and logged onto my old profile I saw how many people had read my stories and commented and liked and were waiting for a new update or new stuff was amazing and made me extremely proud of my
