nowadays, there are many people leaving their native countries in order to find a better place to live. Many people move from their country voluntarily, or being forced. As we know, the number of people who migrate from their native countries is getting higher and keep increasing. I think it's good for Globalization. For instance, the immigrants have ability to share their culture and background, but they may also destroy the country culture and the environment because the immigrants have different point of view. People may immigrate to benefit from better education opportunities which they don’t have in their countries. Some people may want to be in top class universities, colleges, or professional institutes even of their country does not have education problems. For example, the education in my country has no problem, but I came to the U.S. to study because of the university’s classification. Also, some countries have restriction about female education. For example, due to Iranian government restriction about female education, some females immigrate to other countries to provide better education for them and their children. In addition, there are many scholars their country doesn’t support them to do their project or to do their experiment. Immigrate the scholars has a positive effects on the developed countries by learning from the
“You are in America, speak English.” As a young child hearing these words, it did not only confuse me but it also made me question my belonging in a foreign country. As a child I struggled with my self-image; Not being Hispanic enough because of my physical appearance and not being welcomed enough in the community I have tried so hard to integrate myself with. Being an immigrant with immigrant parents forces you to view life differently. It drives you to work harder or to change the status quo for the preconceived notion someone else created on a mass of people. Coming to America filled me with anxiety, excitement, and even an unexpected wave of fear.
Immigrants were first welcomed in the late 1700s. European explorers like Walter Raleigh, Lord Baltimore, Roger William, William Penn, Francis Drake, John Smith, and others explored to the New World for religious purposes and industrial growth. The first European settlers that settled in the late 1700s were the Pilgrims. After the Pilgrims first settled in Virginia, the expansion of immigrants started. Then in 1860 to 1915, America was growing with its industries, technology, and education. America’s growing empire attracted many people from Europe. The factors that attracted many people to the American cities where job opportunities with higher income, better education, and factory production growth. As the population grew in the American
According to The Civil Society, the main reason why immigration happens is poverty, “ This is not an easy journey, and not all people will find the happy ending that they are looking for. For many people, emigrating from one country to another will often be a very difficult and stressful process, it can include a lot of upheaval and changes both in lifestyle and in the work that they do” (The civil society). People always think that moving to a more developed country, like U.S., will be great. This idea is similar to the thought that the grass is greener on the other side. In my opinion immigration is not all that special. The expectations have been built up so immensely that they cannot be achieved, along with the fact that when people leave their home country they are leaving the life they built.
As I boarded the plane to move to the United States, the beginning of September 2005, I couldn’t help but think about all that I left behind; My family, my friends, my school, my clothes, and all of the awesome cultural food. Then again, I looked forward to this new life, a new beginning. I imagined it being like life in the movies, where everything seemed easy and life was just beautiful. After all, I was going to the States; the place where most people only dreamt of. I felt very blessed to have this opportunity because I knew that it wasn’t given to everyone. Coming to America marked my coming of age because I left behind my old life, I started life afresh, and I became a much grateful person.
There is no clear definition of “becoming American”. Everyone has a different view of what American truly means. The term differs depending on what era in history it is. During the American Revolution, the United States was not a nation, therefore no one was truly American. While the Cherokee Nation fought for sovereignty, the definition of “becoming American” expanded. Both the American Revolution and the Red Clay simulations conveyed how race contributed to “becoming American”.
Many people have asked the question, and many others have been asked, ‘What is the greatest country in the world?’ Or, if you live in America, ‘Why is America the greatest country in the world?’ Many people answer this by saying things such as freedom, our education, diversity, etc., while others may say the people who live here, namely, Americans. Yet few are able to sufficiently answer the next question, ‘What makes a person an American?’ Many will say that living here makes you an American. Yet they seem to forget about the thousands, if not millions, of illegal immigrants that are living in our country. Are they Americans just because they are living in our country? Our federal government does not agree, which is why we have several laws concerning the deportation of illegal immigrants. Others, who see past the simple idea of living here as a means of being an American, may say that your characteristics help to define you as an American. Yet the most agreeable answer would be a combination of the two. An American would be someone who lives in America legally, and also holds within themselves various characteristics, which among these include an over-abundance of confidence,
Moving to a different country at a young age can be a challenge, especially when most of my friends and family are not coming with me. I moved to the United States when I was eight years old. When I landed in Michigan in 2006, everything was new to me, the culture, the language, and the people. Coming to America was cultural shock to my system.
Among every other country in the world, the United States of America is where people feel the most comfortable place to come and live a better life. Immigrants are people who leave their counties to reside in other counties that are rich and safe to better themselves. Every year people immigrate to the USA for many reasons. Many people are having difficulty living in their native country such as over population, jobless which make the economy so hard. People from outside of the United States think there is peace, love, equality, free education, jobs, good food to stay healthy, but most importantly freedom of speech to express yourself in America. Today, I will only focus on some reasons why people in my country immigrates to America. This is
Have you ever wondered what really changed America? The answer to that question is immigration . Due to immigration spiking tremendously in the late 1800s, America was changed forever. America 's population increased by record levels, the job industries were at all time highs, and America became a more diverse country. Immigration transformed American society and culture. I showed the americans that diversity as well as unity are a symbol of national strength. .America was known as “ the land of economic opportunity.” Immigrants came to America from all over the world. Most immigrants in the late 1800s were from Germany, Ireland, and England. Although industrial jobs were the main pull factor for immigration, there were several
Seven years ago, I moved to United States. Like anyone who had welcomed changes in their life, I had a hard time dealing with my new situation. It’s very difficult to fit in. In my homeland, life is harsh with the great gap of poor and rich, but my family got everything. Our lives were plentiful. We were not prepared to face the changes and challenges in the United States. My mother didn’t know how to get a job or how my two older sisters would get into college. It was not the same life we had in the Philippines. We left our homeland while my two older sisters were college students. My parents didn’t know how to help them to pursue their future here so my parents decided to let my sisters return home to finish their education. As they graduated with degrees and awards, the truth is, I sincerely respect and admire my sisters dearly, but I don’t want to end up like my sisters who finished college with so numerous awards and can’t get the job she wants because her degree is from another country.
Nowadays, Immigration, which is a phenomenon of migration, is very normal and popular in the world. Furthermore, in the world, many countries have the large number of people who immigrate because of many reasons likes finding suitable jobs or new place to live. Many people think that immigrants will give them many problems about the economy and society. However, other people think that immigrants bring many profits for their countries. In my opinion, I think that all things have both good and bad sides and immigration is no exception. In the other hand, I think that immigrations will give the host countries more economic benefits than limitations.
Alejandro Portes, author of Immigrant America: A Portrait, mentions in his book that although loving and cherishing the homeland, people are sometimes forced to leave because of its disadvantages. The "desperate poverty, squalor, and unemployment" are among the most common reasons that cause immigration out of a country. Hundreds of families in third world countries literally struggle to put bread on the table. There are many people who can't find jobs and therefore aren't able to provide enough food and other everyday necessities for their families. These miserable conditions bring thoughts of moving to other places where a family can survive.
To sum up, the migration is widespread tendency what people do all over the world, but especially in areas where are low living standards or people feel discriminated. Men and women migrate because of different reasons. Women mainly migrate because they want to achieve more power, feel independent, and control their own life, also they migrate because they want to live with their husbands and children. Men migrate mostly because they want to get better job and send money to their families. The migration can be limited, but it can be effectively limited only if women and men can achieve their goals in their own countries and feel free and achieve good living standards. Also society in those countries where migration is essential problem, need to change, and try not to judge and discriminate people.
Secondly, there are various disadvantages of immigration for countries like overpopulation, illegal immigration, brain- drain and impact on labor market. In today’s globalized era, most of the well educated people move to other country for better wages, better atmosphere as well as good accommodation. Moreover, it’s a big threat to their origin gradually they lose professional work
Economic issues are one of the reason people emigrate from their native land to other Countries. Example is the high cost of living and low wages in some native Countries. Most people in their native land are deprived of having easy access to the most common things such as food, Electricity,
