Every year, the most prestigious award-giving body, The Academy Awards, or most commonly known as the Oscars is held during the beginning of the year. If a movie wins an Oscar, in any of the seventeen categories available, it is often considered as great. However, if it received multiple awards, its considered to be one of the greatest films of all time.
HOW DOES THE ACADEMY CHOOSE THE NOMINEES AND WINNERS?
The very first stage when it comes to choosing the winners is to basically narrow it down to all the possible candidates in that year. They will choose five for every category but films must meet the requirements which are the following:
- The film must be more than 40 minutes long
- The film must have a public premiere in a movie theater

Mrs. Hinton’s The Outsiders was a delight to read. While I might have enjoyed it, I must disagree with who the author has chosen to base her book on and here’s why. While Hinton chose to write about a young man doomed to repeat his mistake multiple times until eventually, he sees the error of his ways. We see in the beginning Ponyboy admits that he’s not to walk alone merely because the Soc (Socials) will jump any Greaser this, of course, does not deter Ponyboy as he makes this same blunder throughout the book. Eventually, causing tension among his family and the death of three people. I do believe Hinton had two good choices there is Johnny Cage an abused teen and Dallas “Dally” Winston a hardened criminal.
The jury was locked in the room to deliberate because they don't want them to leave until they have come to a decision. If the jury was allowed to leave, they might just go when they want and not return. Also, the accused could try to come in to convince the jury that he is innocent.
two Emmys for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Miniseries and Outstanding Art Direction. The movie also picked up one of three Golden Globe nominations.
I’m scrolling through the articles on Snapchat and find my way across one with an intriguing title, I instantly tap on it. I begin to scroll further down only to find myself going through extensive paragraphs of information and suddenly this article that seemed so interesting became a bore. In Nicholas G. Carr’s novel, The Shallows, he argues the internet is creating more problems to us humans than actual benefits. Our social skills are starting to lack and our interaction with technology is beginning to heighten. Humans contemplative skills are slowly fading away due to our reliance on the internet to solve our problems. Technology is inevitable by humans, seeing that individuals use it in their everyday lives. Unfortunately, this is a problem considering the use of high-tech gadgets decrease in one’s capacity for concentration, contemplation, and personal memory.

The Traditional Western has often been overlooked at awards time; only three have been successful at the Academy Awards, winning Oscars for Best Picture. These include ‘Cimarron’ (1933), Dances with Wolves (1990) and ‘The Unforgiven’ (1992.)
In 1932, Walt Disney won his first Academy Award for his production of Flower and Trees. Winning an Academy award is no small prize.
Mel Gibson is " Bravehearts " director as well as the main star. This is a well made movie that I really enjoyed. The movie " Bravehearts " is an amazing account of one Scotsman that decided to fight the oppression of the English to gain his freedom. With this one mans vision an awesome movie is created. There is a scene for just about all audiences. There are war scenes, romantic scenes, and who could forget dramatic scenes.
the GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Films and 27 nominations.(Wikipedia, Boys Don't Cry,2014) "Boys Dont Cry" did receive great awards and nomination but also received extreme controversy.
Have you ever wondered how some athletes have gotten so good at a certain sport? Have you ever thought about what they did in order for them to get this good? For some the answer is simple; workout and train. But for others the answer is different; the use of performance enhancing drugs such as steroids. There are some people that argue that steroids should be legalized and allowed in professional sports. Other people argue that steroids should not be allowed. Today I am going to state my opinion and justify my reason. Steroids should not be allowed in professional sports because it can be very dangerous to the athlete’s health, it is a way to gain and un-fair advantage and it can be dangerous in both social and physical aspects.
The film would also be chosen as the best motion picture of 1962, by the committee of exception films of the National Board of Review. The Longest Day won this award during the Vietnam War, which most likely helped raise patriotism and military support from the American people, because it wasn’t till 1965(24
My hands were clenched tightly around the armrest of my couch, ten minutes in to my first horror movie. I was in middle school as a 7th grader, brand new to the world of sleepovers, late nights, and scary movies. My best friend invited me over for a sleepover on a Friday night to pig out on candy, and watch a movie that would surely leave us with nightmares for a long time. I did not show it and neither did my friend, but I was apprehensive whether or not this was a good idea. I could hear my mom in the back of my head at the time saying, “scary movies are for adults, and you will regret it if you watch one.” We both acted like the movie we were about to watch, wasn’t a bigger deal than it actually was; I was terrified yet excited about the
Olivier and Oscar The year is 1948, and the Academy Awards have gathered the best of the best from around the world to celebrate the greatest achievements of the film industry. The five nominees for Best Picture included Johnny Belinda, The Res Shoes, The Snake Pit, The Treasure of the Sierra Madre, and a foreign adaptation of Shakespeare's Hamlet. The two forerunners of the night, Jonny Belinda and The Treasure of the Sierra Madre, both got their fair share of awards from the Golden Globes, but the night would see the first foreign film winner of Best Picture. Hamlet deserved to win the Oscar that night, because it encompassed the five qualifications of a great movie; acting excellence, cinematic experience, believable mise-en-scen, interesting
Over the past semester, I have found the most challenging part of this course to simply be the transition from high school composition classes to college. Because writing expectations are so different in college than in high school, even with AP and Dual Enrollment “college level” classes, I first found myself being overwhelmed with the pressure to write the perfect first draft. The pressure came from knowing how much a final draft of a paper contributed to my grade. This left me sitting in front of my computer for hours at a time with thoughts of what I wanted to say racing through my head, but unable to deliver these thoughts into organized, structured sentences. I learned, through writing my persuasive essay, that instead of trying to write the paper start to finish and already in its perfect form, it is easier for me to look at the paper through its different components and focus on them individually, then work to best organize my ideas fluently.
The science fiction movie Blade Runner 2049 got mostly technical nods, but did get a cinematography nomination. I personally thought it should have gotten nominated for Best Picture, but I think missing out on it may have more to do with its financial failure than its genre, especially considering there was a sci fi Best Picture nominee just last year in
