What is motivation to you? Motivation to me is the process by which one is moved, whether the process is external or internal. It encourages one to do something they fear or achieve something good. It can bring about positive change or a negative reaction depending on the situation. The intouchables movie has many great examples of motivation. In this film Philippe is an extremely wealthy man who, after a paragliding accident became a quadriplegic. As as quadriplegic Philippe needed an around the clock caretaker to look after him, ironically out of all the men, he employs a poor man named Driss, who just got out of jail. Driss initially had no intention of being hired, and had applied for the job simply to be eligible for unemployment benefit. One could say that Driss was a selfish human being for only going to …show more content…
“And that’s what I want. No pity.”
Luckily, Philippe was able to see past Driss’ appearance and in return, Driss was able to see Philippe for the person he was. Though when one comes to think about it Philippe motivated Driss to leave the bad life behind, through the condition that he had to work in order to get his benefit. Which at the end ends up being good for Driss because he didn’t go back to his bad ways.
In conclusion, The intouchables taught me that whether it be in relationship, living life and becoming a better person motivation is needed. Motivation is something that drives us to complete a task, a challenge, it's something that drives us from within. In other words it's a reason for doing something. Some of us need more motivating than others, some people are self motivated and some need to be motivated by others. It doesn't matter how we are motivated, just finding what motivates us is what is important. The right motivation can help us to improve our lifestyles or to tackle that task that we know is going to be a challenge. Finding something that motivates us can mean the difference between failure and
In fact, it cannot be said that Philippe is tolerating Driss, since they associate with each other very friendly. The reason behind their excellent relationship is Driss always showing the most sincere side of himself to Philippe. He takes care of all the ways Philippe needed and participate in every moment of his life after he is hired. Philippe once stated the intention of employing Driss in a conversation with his friend Antoine. Antoine originally suggests Philippe to fire Driss because he went to jail for robbery before. Even though Philippe notices Driss’s criminal record, he does not follow his friend’s wish. He clarified that the largest difference between Driss and his former caregivers is, he will not show any mercy to him regardless of his infirmity. For example, when someone phones Philippe, Driss will not pass him the phone as he sometimes forgets his illness. In addition, Driss will play tricks on Philippe (placing a hot water bottle on his legs) in order to test whether he does not have any sense. Just like what I mentioned in the above paragraph, ordinary people probably consider Driss’s behaviors are insane, but I guess most of them just neglect the real needs and the genuine feeling of Philippe. Moreover, I insist this is the reason why the movie is named as “The Intouchables”, as no one has ever touched
In 2008 the worst financial crisis since the great depression hit and left many people wondering who should be responsible. Many Americans supported the prosecution of Wall Street. To this day there have still not been any arrests of any executive on Wall Street for the financial collapse. Many analysts point out that greed of executives was one of the many factors in the crisis. I will talk about subprime loans, ill-intent, punishments, and white collar crime.
In today 's society, movies are viewed as a way of relaxation. Movie lovers enjoy seeing scenes in movies based on real life events. Some of these scenes may include high rates of violence that can cause destruction and serious chaos if implemented in real life. What comes to people 's mind when they hear the word "purge"? The purge is fiction movie directed by James deMonaco which retracts events that would totally cause some controversy within a society. As the theme of the movie suggests, that is the time of the year that all the insane and illegal actions come to be legal for twelve-four hour period. Several atrocities were committed. There was a group of tourists that came to the US in order to commit
According to Robbins et al; (Robbins et al, pg 296) motivation refers to the process by which a persons efforts are energized, sustained, and directed towards a goal. This definition has three key elements: energy, direction, and persistence. Motivation is a complex and important subject, has historically been given a great deal of attention by Psychologists, who have proposed theories to explain it. (Riggio, pg 188),
The following scene refers to language and symbols. At the beginning of the movie, all the candidates for the job were speaking to the assistant and weren’t paying much attention to Philippe; this is a negative imagery as the one concerned is Philippe. When Driss comes in, all he was interested in was to get a paper signed for his own benefit. He talked to Philippe directly, he did not even acknowledge
The movie Psycho, is one of the most influential movie in Cinema history to date. The director Alfred Hitchcock, wanted to test many of the conventions of movie making that was common at that time. Alfred Hitchcock movie broke many cultural taboos and challenged the censors. Alfred Hitchcock showed a whole bunch of at the time absurd scene, for example: Marion Crane (Janet Leigh) dying naked while taking a shower, Norman Bates with split personality disorder, and the first ever flushing toilet shown in a movie. Because from the late 1920's to the late 1950's, movies were made usually go around the story, and usually with a lot dialogue. This movie gives the audience an experience that was much more emotional and intuitive. The viewers were caught up in a roller coaster of shock, surprise and suspense based on image, editing and sound.
What is motivation? According to text, motivation is defined as a set of factors that activate, direct, and maintain behavior, usually toward a certain goal. Motivation is the energy that makes us do things: this is a result of our individual needs being satisfied so that we have inspiration to complete the mission. These needs vary from person to person as everybody has their individual needs to motivate themselves. Depending on how motivated we are, it may further determine the effort we put into our work and therefore increase the standard of the productivity. There have been a wide variety of theories about motivation developed over the years. Several are drive-reduction theory, arousal theory, psychosocial (both incentive and cognitive) theory, and Maslow’s H...
The film that I have chosen to analyze is “The Purge”. “The Purge” is a 2013 American horror film directed by James DeMonaco. It was released on June 7, 2013, to mixed reviews. I will be analyzing “The Purge” by looking at conflict theory, class division, the importance of the ethnicity of each individual character, and the government’s overall political and economic agenda. In brief, I believe that Purge night takes place because of Conflict theory, due to political and economic agendas.
12 ANGRY MEN, is basically a story play written for broadcast on CBS in 1954 by an American playwright Reginald Rose. In 1957, Rose finished the screenplay for the movie version, which was co-produced by him and Henry Fonda (Juror#8). The movie was directed by Sydney Lumet. This movie was nominated for many awards like Academy awards for Best Picture, Best Director and Best writing, Screenplay based on Material from another Medium, and an Edgar Allan Poe Award for Best Motion Picture Screenplay from Mystery Writers of America.
Clint Eastwood’s film “Gran Torino” traces the end of the life of Walt Kowalski. He has recently gone through a lot – the death of his beloved wife, his distant relationship with his son, his emotional scars from the Korean War and his bad health. All these things stop him from living a proper life. He doesn’t care about himself much – he smokes even though he is sick, he doesn’t eat a lot, he refuses to confess even though that was his wife’s last wish. However, all this changes when he meets the Hmong Family that lives next door. At the beginning he detests them because of their similarity to the Koreans, but later, as he gets to know them, they become the family that he was never able to have. The story traces the psychological changes in Walt’s character due to his unusual bond with the Hmong family, which changes are one of the main strengths of the film.
According to Greenberg (1999) motivation is defined "as a process of arousing, directing and maintaining behaviour towards a goal." Where directing' refers to the selection of a particular behaviour; and maintenance' refers to the inclination to behave with consistency in that manner until the desired outcome is met.
There are many different ways of interpretation of the concept of motivation. To define motivation in general I relied on Oxford Dictionary (2017): “A reason or
According to Greenberg (1999), motivation is defined “as a process of arousing, directing and maintaining behavior towards a goal.” Where “directing” refers to the selection of a particular behavior; and ‘maintenance” refers to the inclination to behave with consistency in that manner until the desired outcome is met.
¡§Motivation¡¨ derives from the Latin verb ¡§movere¡¨ which means ¡§to move¡¨. Beck (2004, p.3) defined Motivation as an internal state which is the driving force that activates behaviour or gives directions to thoughts, feelings and actions of an organism.
Motivation is best defined as the needs, wants, and beliefs that drive an individual. It is the basis of what people work for and keeps them doing things they otherwise would never do. People act in a whole new manner when they are motivated by something. Motivation gives them a whole new perception of the task at hand. Motivation is not always positive though, and it does not always just come from one place, for example, your boss. Motivation can be negative by not receiving something, and contrary to popular belief it is not always money that motivates people to do what they do. People have different needs, wants, and desires and the finding what is most important to those individuals is the key to motivation. People and companies have used countless techniques and approaches to motivate others and employees, but what works for one person does not necessarily work for the other.
