After reading the two short stories “The Most Dangerous Game,” By Richard Cornell, and “The Cask of Amontillado,” By Edgar A. Poe and comparing and contrasting the two stories I believe that General Zaroff is the more evil person. To begin with, he killed more than one person just for the fun of it. Next, in his so called “game” he cheated. Finally, he did give a decision to the people but the decision wasn’t really fair. For these reasons I believe the Zaroff is the more evil according to the definition of evil; profoundly immoral and malevolent. First, Zaroff is the more evil person because of several reasons. He killed more than one person and he did it just because he wasn’t satisfied with regular game and it wasn’t making him happy anymore
In the short story “The Most Dangerous Game” Rainsford was justified in killing General Zaroff. Rainsford is a hunter. He was on a yacht that crashed and he was the only survivor. The island that he swam to was named “Ship Trap Island.” This where General Zaroff lived. He is also a hunter. He has hunted anything you can think of. Even… people. He has the survivors from the ship wrecks “play” his “game.” The survivors go out into the jungle and General Zaroff goes out and finds them. They have three days to survive. If they don’t get caught in those three days, they win. If they lose… they are killed. This happened to Rainsford. Rainsford, thankfully, won the “game.” He shot General Zaroff after his win.
In “The Most Dangerous Game” by Richard Connell, General Zaroff is shown as crazy, Fearless, and Playful. General Zaroff is shown to be crazy in the story when he traps people on his island and then hunt them. “No animal had a chance with me anymore”(. This quote shows that Rainsford is crazy because during this part, he is hunting real living humans. During the story, General Zaroff is also Fearless. He shows that he is when he is hunting Rainsford and he knows he is in the tree but doesn't kill him because he wants a better fight. “His eyes stopped before they got to the limb where Rainsford laid and he smiled”. General Zaroff shows that he is fearless during this scene because he could get killed if he lets him live for a better fight but
The conflicts in both story's end very different message; "I sent a man up five years ago for murder. He was so poised to hang, nut pup north they commuted it to his life. Now his free - I don't know how. Anyways, it looks like he's coming back." ( formen 295) Those are the words of will khan. The conflict in high noon is frank Miller is loose and is coming back to get revenge on Khan for sending him to jail. However in "The Most Dangerous Game" the story is ending out a different conflict. "It's a game you see." Zaroff is a like to hunt humans for fun and it's a game to him. Zaroff is a very skilled hunter that has gotten tired of hunting animals because he says that their not challenging to hunt. So he turns to humans to hunt for his amusement.
In the short story, “The Most Dangerous Game”, Rainsford was justified in killing General Zaroff. Rainsford is a hunter. He was on a yacht until he fell off the boat. He swam all the way to shore because Rainsford heard three gun shots. He walked upon a gigantic mansion. This house was for a man named General Zaroff. He was an hunter just like Rainsford in a hunt , but hunted humans instead of animals. General Zaroff wanted to kill Rainsford in a hunt with the General. Also, the General threaten Rainsford if he doesn’t hunt with him; he will be sent with Ivan.
Zaroff and Gradwitz both hunted humans. Zaroff hunted humans on his own island, while Gradwitz hunted in his forest that he owned. Zaroff only hunted humans that came to his island. Gradwitz hunted his enemy if they came to his land. The two guys both hunted humans on their own land.

Both Rainsford and Zaroff are very competitive. Sanger Rainsford refuses to give up, and stays calm. Zaroff is overly proud and loves to win, he shows it when he smiles and says “to date I have not lost”. Throughout the story Zaroff constantly has the upperhand, they are playing cat and mouse. Rainsford has the ability to turn the tables and in the end make Zaroff fear for his life.
Both Edgar Allan Poe and Richard Connell have an excellent usage of literary devices such as imagery in their short stories, “The Cask of Amontillado” and “The Most Dangerous Game.” “The Cask of Amontillado,” written by Poe, narrates the story of a person named Montresor who extracts revenge from Fortunato because he feels that Fortunato has wronged him. In the short story “The Most Dangerous Game”, there are two main characters, Sanger Rainsford and General Zaroff. The story starts off with Rainsford and Rainsford’s hunting partner, Whitney, on a yacht heading to Rio de Janiero to hunt big game animals. Rainsford ends up becoming trapped on Ship-Trap Island, and that is where he and the reader are introduced to General Zaroff. Unfortunately for Rainsford, General Zaroff is not your normal General. General Zaroff and Rainsford are similar and different in many ways, and even though Rainsford believes that Zaroff is a sick individual, at the end of the story he becomes more like Zaroff than he realizes.

In the short story, “The Most Dangerous Game” by Richard Connel, the main character Mr. Rainsford gets stranded on an eerie island with a bad reputation. He meets General Zaroff and gets thrown into a huge hunting game, where his life is on the line. In the end, he wins the game and will continue to hunt animals, but not people, as the general once did. He will continue to hunt because one, hunting means everything to him. Two, he will not continue the general’s crazy ways, and resort back to the legal and non-dangerous to other humans sport. Third, he feels powerful when he becomes the hunter and not the hunted. Giving up hunting would be like giving up his life, so just because of a minor block he had to overcome, he will not give up hunting.
To begin with, Zaroff considers himself as a civilized person because of the various quotes from the story. For example, “Oh yes,.. I have electricity. We try to be civilized here.”(Pg 50). From this we can infer that Zaroff has many uses for his electricity, but in the wrong way in people's mind. First off, he used the electricity to show sailors that there is a blatant channel marker to get hunters and sailors on the island.
