For my paper, I chose to go to the Menara Moroccan restaurant that features a decorative Moroccan atmosphere and a traditional dance performance from experienced belly dancers. I have never been to this restaurant, nor have I seen a belly dance performance before, so this experience was very new to me and I like that I got a chance to experience a completely different culture. Entering the restaurant, you feel as if you have just walked into Morocco. This is shown by the visual display of dim lighting and colorful drapes that surround the restaurant. We were seated on the ground upon some cushions at a Moroccan themed table. The decor was something I appreciated because it felt very traditional and they really wanted people to get …show more content…
The dancer would move her hands back and forth, along with her hips. There was a lot of space being used as she stepped all around the restaurant dancing in many different areas. She smiled throughout her performance and interacted with many people. The dance seemed like it was choreographed because these performances are done every week, so they must practice them to get them right to perform every week. It was a combination of fast and slow-paced dance. At some point, it got very fast with the feet and hand movements and at other times it was very steady and leisurely. Her rhythm matched with the music all throughout the performance. The body posture of the dancer was upright and straight the majority of the dance. The body parts that were emphasized the most were her hips, which swayed back and forth a lot, and her arms which were doing gestures along with the music the entire time. Her arm movements were all reaching out, especially when she was trying to get people involved. Her hips were curving a lot, which makes sense because it is belly dancing dance and that involves a lot of work towards your stomach and hips. In closing, I want to say how much I enjoyed going to this restaurant because not only did I discover a new eatery, but I got a chance to witness an entirely different culture that I have never experienced before. One of my favorite things was the atmosphere inside and how it really gives you a look into the Moroccan culture. The belly dancer did all of the movements in a choreographed fashion and kept a thorough posture all
Everyone wants their food to taste superb when going out to eat. Both restaurants served excellent homemade chips and salsas as well as queso dip. Reading the menu to order was no problem and both places had a wide variety of options to choose...
The concept that belly dance is a constantly evolving dance might surprise most people, as the static Orientalist image of the belly dancer is the one that pervades American popular culture. I and other scholars attempt to remove belly dance from the ridged framework of Orientalism and the harem fantasy. By the following how belly dance arrived in America, and how images of belly dancers and harems became part of the visual culture of the West I have attempted to demonstrate that there are aspects of power and a different reading of images of belly dance is possible. Through continued scholarly inquiry and research I look forward to the emergence of a new image of belly dance, one that represents the power and beauty of this dance, an image that is respectful of the many cultures that it represents.
One quality that is involved in a restaurant is the atmosphere and the positive energy it gives off. Considering the Western theme, they have the restaurant well decorated from the entrance, to the place where you sit. The walls are painted with tumbleweeds on them, with great lighting that allows you to see, and not go blind. The plates and silverware are very nice, as is the food that goes into them.

Fanny Fern once said, “The way to a man’s heart is through his stomach” (Fern 1). This not only holds true for men, it surly can be said about anyone. A restaurant that can capture anyone’s heart is Carrabba’s Italian Grill. What makes it different from all the other Italian restaurants? That would be the authentic taste and experience the restaurant provides its customers with. Whether diners choose to go out to celebrate or gather the family for a delicious meal, there is one place that they will certainly enjoy having it at, Carrabba’s Italian Grill. This holds true because as a long-time customer, I’ve experienced Carrabba’s for different occasions from anniversaries, graduations to birthday parties
At some points the dancers would move fast and quick with swift motions but in the
What is Belly dancing? We see bits of it on the television every day, whether it is a music video, a commercial, a new method of burning fat, or in a movie. So, what is this dance where you move your hips at different speeds? Where did it come from? I have always wondered what it was because it looked so fun. It is a dance where you can be creative with it and make it your own. Here is a brief look at the history of this popular dance craze that is sweeping the world.
I have decided on making my neighborhood Moroccan themed. I decide on this because it has a very classy and elegant look. Because of the theme, roads and houses will be decorated to accommodate the theme. Roads will have lanterns on at night instead of having tall, simple street light. There will be vivid colors of flowers everywhere on the street with candles near it. Houses will also have various flowers and numerous lanterns in its interior. Walls will either be painted purple, dark blue, or a periwinkle color. The homes will have couches that are a gold color with bright pillows to accompany
When I walked into the door, I was immediately blown away. I entered a beautiful yet sleek dining room and kitchen. The thing that I noticed first and appreciated was that the space was not gigantic. It is intimate and I think that is important for cooking and dining experiences. When there are too many people, it waters down the experience for me. Lucky me, since I went before lunch, it was just me, Chef Tess and

Although she doesn’t like men ogling her classes, Belinda Shakar does not shy away from the sensual aspects of her dance. In fact, that’s what attracted her to belly dancing as a teenager. “I really liked the sensuality of the dance and even the blatant sexuality,” she says. She had been taking traditional dance classes in Los Angeles in hopes of becoming a performer but thought belly dance seemed more interesting than the styles she was learning. She finally switched to belly dance after injuring herself in a ballet class. The accident convinced her that ballet is unnatural: “It distorts the body and torments it. That is still my feeling o...
The restaurant's interior is tastefully decorated. It gives the atmosphere of the middle eastern culture. In the restaurant, there are lovely stitched pictures above the seats, and in front of the windows, there are some seats surrounding hookahs. There are two authentic looking seating cushion areas. They are done in ornate red silk and really add to the atmosphere. The red decorations on the walls give that ethnic feel. The seating stools are very colorful. I love how the decorations combines several traditions of India, Afghan, Turkey, and the Middle East. Kabob House has something for everyone to enjoy. “We are not only sharing our food with them, but we also share our culture,”said Khaliki (Alger). The decorations sets the mood of the restaurant and the culture. The atmosphere evokes the Middle East not only by decorations, but also the music and dances they play. Kabob House has dancing performance sometimes. One of the dances they performed was belly dance, and Indian dancing. On one of my visits to Kabob House a dancer explained to me that there is no rules to many of the dances, but rather the music tells them what movements to take. People who go to Kabob House get lots of knowledge about different cultures. Kabob House share their cultures through their music and
The movie “The Hundred Foot Journey” is a great representation of different cultures interacting as well as the different food habits. The movie is based on an Indian family who moves to Italy and wants to open an Indian restaurant across street from a famous Italian restaurant in the small town. The Kadam family wants to bring the Indian cuisine to a new culture and share some of their values. They have trouble expanding their culinary delights to the public because Marquerite the sous-chef doesn’t want any competition. Throughout the movie, secrets on certain dishes are shared and tricks to improve the certain style of food is greatly appreciated by both restaurant chefs.

26). This dish was very simple and did not require too much time, but I was still able to gain an appreciation for the types of meals that are cooked by Moroccans. Many of the ingredients that were incorporated into this dish are also used in a vast variety of dishes within North Africa. The paprika, cumin garlic, parsley, and red pepper flakes gave this dish a unique flavor that is different from typical eggs and vegetables. There was a hint of spice that seasoned the eggs and vegetables perfectly. The eggs were soft and warm, while the vegetables added a slight unique crunchy and soft texture. Although this dish did not incorporate staple ingredients like lamb, bread, or fish, it did incorporate many of the spices and vegetables that are used in many dishes and on a daily basis. I was able to gain a great deal of appreciation for the types of meals that are prepared in a Moroccan
