There is a lot of misunderstanding surrounding what college life is really like. Most media portrayals exaggerate college life. However, the movie Monsters University directed by Dan Scanlon is an exception, and it does show a correct portrayal of what college is really like. During the movie, two different types of college students, Mike Wazowski and Sulley, the son of the best scarer, attend Monsters University. Mike and Sulley pick their major based on their preferences and talents. And while Mike studies hard, pretty much all the time, Sulley does not. Furthermore, Mike and Sulley become unlikely friends through different extracurricular activities. Monsters University portrays college accurately by deciding majors, studying for classes, …show more content…
Lawrence Jones, a professor Emeritus in the College of Education at North Carolina State University; studies school counseling and career counseling and development, states, “recent studies show that a good personality-major match is related to college success. Generally, the better the match the better students do. So, unquestionably, choosing a major is one of the most important decisions you will make. ”A good choice in a major could lead to higher grades because you will have more potential to finish your major, it will help you be more motivated, you could finish college in four years, and you will be more fulfilled and well off in your future career (Jones 3). With my own experience so far in college, this depiction of having more motivation which leads to doing better in your classes when you choose a major that you are interested in is accurate. I have loved the sciences ever since high school. All of the classes were just so interesting and I enjoyed learning about science, even if it was hard. When I got into my junior year of high school, I took a chemistry class, did very well in it, and loved it. Ever since then, I have had a passion to study chemistry, which lead me to choose a biochemistry major. Because I love learning about chemistry and biology, I am more motivated to study, which leads me to do better in my science classes. Since I chose a major that I am interested in learning about, I will do better. This is similar to why Mike and Sulley choose their major based on their likes and talents, and this is one way how Monsters University portrays college
Anyone who has had the chance to read Mary Shelly’s original Frankenstein and watch the movie Young Frankenstein is aware that there is quite a difference when it comes to the two of them. For one it is easy to point out that Young Frankenstein is set out to be a comedy while the original version of Frankenstein is made to be serious. Young Frankenstein is a 1977 film that tells the story of Victor Frankenstein’s grandson. The film adaptation is essentially a parody of the classic tale along with other versions of Frankenstein. It pointed out from the start of the movie that it would run directly parallel with the original tale when Fredrick Frankenstein was mentioned to be the grandson of the infamous Victor
Have you ever wondered where the conspiracy that if you pee in a pool the water will turn blue comes from? It comes from the movie Grown Ups, when Kevin James is sitting in the pool with his two kids and all of a sudden a cloud of blue swarms around their bodies. All men that have seen this movie are paranoid of this happening in real life, whether they admit it or not. The combination of an all-star cast, a genuine lesson learned at the end, and a humor that appeals to all age groups makes for one of the best comedies ever. The director of Grown Ups, Dennis Dugan, did a fantastic job of assembling a cast of comedy genius’. The five main roles are played by Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Chris Rock, David Spade, and Rob Schneider.
"Mrs. Robinson, you are trying to seduce me," says Benjamin Braddock (Dustin Hoffman). The Graduate, directed by Mike Nichols in 1967 is an influential satire/comedy film about a recent East Coast college graduated who finds himself alienated and aimless in the changing, social and sexual general public of the 1960s, and questioning the values of society. The theme of the film is of an innocent and confused youth who is exploited, mis-directed, seduced (literally and figuratively) and betrayed by a corrupt, self-indulgent, and discredited older generation (that finds stability in “plastics”) that I found to be quite clear and understanding, while also capturing the real spirit of the times and allows America's youth to perceive onscreen an image of themselves which they can both identify with and emulate. The Graduate is a significant film even today due to its use of abstract camera angles, telephoto lenses, excellent cinematography, and great acting. Few visual effects were used, however, matting and numerous point of view shots were used. These characteristics and the fabulous use of mis-en-scene, great writing and the era of the film all made The Graduate what it is today, magnificent.
The film "Garden State" is an eccentric drama; in addition, a romance comedy, with a slew of complex, innate cast of characters, each deeply entrenched in profound emotional and psychological scars, ascending from the regrets of their past. The film is a reflection, on rediscovering yourself after years of goalless ambiguity. Writer/Director Zach Braff, stars as the films’ chief character, Andrew Largeman. In James Berardinelli’s movie review, he said: “Garden State is one of those movies that fails to stay with the viewer for an extended period of time. It 's a forgettable film featuring a throw-away story with unmemorable characters and unremarkable performances.” I must disagree; although "Garden State" can be a tad somber, moody and too subtle for many viewers. Yet, the film is fantastically intriguing, by arousing viewers thoughts, and stimulating ones emotions, and that 's exactly what draws viewers in. Since the storyline requires viewers to dig deeper into the subtle undertones and symbolisms
The Bad and The Beautiful (1952) and State and Main (2000) are films within films that unmask Hollywood Cinema as a dream factory and expose the grotesque, veneer hidden by the luxury of stars. The Bad and the Beautiful, directed by Vincent Minnelli, is a black and white film narrated in flashback form. The films theatrical nature requires more close-ups than wide-screen shots to capture the character’s psychological turmoil. For example, Fred and Jonathan’s car ride is captured in a close-up to signify their friendship; however their relationship deteriorates after Jonathan’s deceit. While the camera zooms out, Fred stands alone motionless. Here, Fred is captured from a distance at eye-level and he becomes ostracized by the film industry and
Authority replaced Sully after he arise a new generation of revolutionary solution to generate power from another source than the screams, the laughs of the human’s child, which creates 10 times more power than the ugly previous method. Business leaders need to be able to try completely new methods of doing things and think out of the box, Monsters Inc. originally established on scaring children, but when Sully and Mike recognized that laughter was much more powerful, the whole business model were replaced.
The story of the movie revolves around two brother wrestler’s lives Dave Schultz (Mark Ruffalo) and Mark Schultz (Channing Tatum) and how a multimillionaire sponsor John E. du Pont (Steve Carell) changed their lives. These actors have done amazing comedies like Get Smart, 22 Jump Street, despicable me and many more that’s why looking at the cast of the movie one would think of it as a comedy, but after watching the movie they would say otherwise. The amount of emotion that is developed throughout the movie is just too overwhelming, even though the story is public knowledge the director (Bennett Miller) has succeeded in keeping the viewers at the edge of their seats. The intensity with which Steve Carell has played the role of John E. du Pont

The Fault in Our Movie Adaptation In 2014, John Green’s famous novel The Fault in Our Stars was brought to life with a film adaptation. The novel tells the story of two star-crossed lovers, Augustus Waters (portrayed by Ansel Elgort) and Hazel Grace Lancaster (portrayed by Shailene Woodley). ...y you have enthusiasm for and do well in,” is advice often given by employers. Lynn Cheney, former Chairman of the National Endowment for the Humanities, agrees: “Students who follow their hearts in choosing majors will most likely end up laboring at what they love. They’re the ones who will put in the long hours and intense effort that achievement requires. And they’re the ones who will find the sense of purpose that underlies most human happiness.”
Almost everyone has a favorite genre of film, but how everyone defines their favorite genre can differ greatly. Horror is one of the genres where its definition can be perceived differently by many people. Like all other genres, horror does have rules and traditions that must be included in order for a film to be considered a horror film. These rules and traditions include a protagonist, an antagonist, an escape or escape attempt of some sort, and very influential audio and visual effects.
It may be a thrilling ride at first for some, but once one has really experienced the college life; one will wish upon a star to be a part of high school all over again. Many of the rules and basics of college are similar to college; they are just a little more advanced. College is very expensive and voluntary; although one can receive scholarships and have a free ride to attend any college of their choice. During the time at college, one learns a lot of responsibility from completing work on time to real-life situations. College classes may vary from small to large depending on the course class and whether one attends a community college or university; and one will most likely not take classes with his or her peers that came along to attend the same college. Instructors will tell the students or give a syllabus for everything that is required throughout that whole semester for a student to pass on to the next year or class, and it is up to the responsibility to keep a track on the due dates for the course’s work. While high school tells one what courses one will take, college is a place where courses are took upon what one will like to pursue their career in. Classes in college may only meet once or twice a week, time varying from thirty minutes to even three hours. Attendance in college is left upon the student. No one is going to call and check to see where one is at, that is
Most movies that have college life in them have bad teachers or college students parting. Like in the movie 21 and Over. It’s about a group of college buddies that are all meeting up, one of them is just turning 21 so they go out to party, so bad things happen because they are drunk. Our the movie The Blindside its about a real life story of how Micheal Oher made it into NFL football. He had to work hard on his grade so he could get into college football. In the movie 21 and Over the whole movie is partying and you never see people studying or writing papers for college. Because with my college schedule I would not have anytime to go and party without failing out of college.
