According to a survey asking about definition of “business analytics”, many leading experts across the business intelligence spectrum such as Oracle, SAP or Microsoft agreed with this idea that Business Analytics related to “the exploration of historical data from many source systems through statistical analysis, quantitative analysis, data mining, predictive modeling and other technologies to identify trends and understand the information that can drive business change and support sustained successful business practices”. Therefore, the first question should be how Monsanto use analytics to build their own distinctive capabilities in this competitive biotechnology industry. First of all, Monsanto’s business analytics has gradually changed its core business strategic focus from toxic chemical products to bio-technology, agro-chemical products, and even climate-based information technology services.
