Mom’s Creamy Potato Soup
One reason I like fall is because of the crisp, cool mornings. Football is very big
at my house. That is very apparent in the fall. When Thanksgiving comes, all my family and I do is eat turkey and watch football games. Mom’s rich and creamy potato soup is served during the cold, winter months.
People usually think of soup as being tomato or chicken noodle, but not potato.
The color of her soup is that of an off-white or yellow. The texture of the soup is very thick. It looks like creamy potatoes in a bowl when it is done. The aroma of the soup is very strong and earth-smelling. My entire house smells like potatoes while my mom prepares the potato soup. When I eat her creamy potato soup, I always have seconds and my stomach always thinks, “What good soup this is!”
In a five quart Dutch oven over medium heat in hot margarine, she cooks potatoes
and onions in hot margarine until they are golden brown. The smell of the onions is tantalizing. She does this for ten minutes, stirring frequently. She then adds water, salt, pepper, and a chicken bouillon cube over high heat. These ingredients are added to the Dutch oven and then heated to a boil.
The heat is then reduced. These ingredients are covered and the potatoes are
simmered until they are fork tender. This process takes fifteen minutes. The potatoes are removed from the heat. With a potato masher, she mashes the potatoes until the desired consistency is achieved. She stirs in milk and heats it through.
When my mom serves the soup, my family and I salivate as we look at the
delicious potato soup about to be served to us by my mother. My mom asks us if we would like, and we always say, “Yes, mother, I would like more of your scrumptious potato soup. ”My mom serves the soup on a cold winter’s night. When I devour her soup, I usually can eat another bowl. It fills my stomach making me unable to do anything for at least four hours after I get done consuming her soup. I can never wait until she makes her potato soup because that just happens to be my favorite food. Her soup reminds me of a teddy bear, warm and soft inside. It also gives me the feeling of togetherness with my family sitting around the dinner table telling each other of our days and how life is going.
In a separate bowl cut the large scallions and half medium cabbage to small pieces. Peel and chop the potato, malanga, carrots, turnip, yam and the butter squash. Wash the vegetables and put in a separate boiling water. Cover it and cook it in high heat for an hour. After an hour reduce the heat and add scotch bonnet pepper. Once everything is fully cooked remove it from the pot. Used the cooking water to blend the squash into a puree. For the best flavor pour the vegetables, the squash and the cooking liquid into the pot that cooked the meat. After that add parsley, thyme, and broken spaghetti. If there’s no spaghetti, you can substitute with macaroni. Let them all cook for about an hour or until tender. Once done combine meat with soup and enjoy. You can eat this soup with bread has a side dish.
Everybody had an opinion on what happened at the Ramsey household on December 25, 1996. Most people believed that the family is responsible for killing JonBenet. Ever since that day, the public has held the Ramsey family under a cloud of suspicion. The family did everything they could do to defend themselves. They believe that an intruder must have done it, but most of the public believes that the family should be held responsible for the killing. The main suspect that police keyed in on was the mother of JonBenet. The reason for the suspicion of the mother was the 911 call made by Patsy Ramsey the day of the murder. In this 911 call, the mother seemed very suspicious. Patsy said “We have a kidnapping” ( McClish). “It seemed like she knew something she was not telling” (McClish 2001).
The article was captivating because my family and I do the same thing! I was reminded of how the potsticker relates to me.
Dr. Jekyll reflects on the “hard law of life” (Stevenson 42) which is governed by religion. Because religion always calls man towards pure intensions and the good, also away from atrocious pleasures, Dr. Jekyll wants to remove the bad within him to have a completely pure soul. At first he tries to conceal the other side of himself, but now to his defense, the time has come to indulge in his pleasures. His reasoning is to further his knowledge or relief himself from sorrow and suffering (Stevenson 42). With this decision, he now starts to deviate from his respectable image in society and starts to show the attributes of an
In Robert Louis Stevenson’s book The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, Dr. Jekyll makes one decision that impacts his life forever, and while it seemed insignificant to him at the time, it turned out to be life changing for him. In the letter to Mr. Utterson, “Hence, although I had not two character as well as two appearances, one was wholly evil, and the other was still the old Henry Jekyll.”(pg.
Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Some attention has been given to Stevenson’s Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. He claims that the brain was composed of several faculties, and that the brain and mind were connected in mysterious ways of madness. A trestle on insanity becoming a source of systematic perversion of the natural feelings, affections, inclinations, temper, habits, moral disputations, and natural impulses. Dr. Jekyll knew what he was doing when he made Mr. Hyde but he did not think about the consequences of making a duplicate of his insane side. As the story goes on, Dr. Jekyll becomes anti-social in some way for example, morbidly depressed or angry with everyone. Utterson soon knew that Dr. Jekyll was not telling him something when he read his will left up to a man name Mr. Hyde. Throughout the story Dr. Jekyll’s friends try and find out little by little who this man is and why are these crimes occurring and no names lead back to anyone. Even though Jekyll and Utterson are two totally different people, they are still somewhat the same because Jekyll is driving himself insane trying to keep Hyde alive but yet a secret to everyone. Mr. Utterson is also driving himself insane by trying to find out who Hyde is. These two men were obsessed with something made up and their obsession just grew stronger until neither of them could take it anymore. At the end of the story both Jekyll and Hyde become reckless as he locked up in the
This statement by Druckman portrays the belief that women cook for the emotional experience while men cook for the technical experience. Research conducted by Marjorie DeVault (1991) suggests wives and mothers cook as a way to show their love to their family. Similarly, research by Cairns, Johnston, and Baumann (2010) discusses women’s emotional responses to cooking for their family and friends. Both studies highlight the emotion and nurture women feel as they cook for others. The studies’ discussion about the nurturing aspect of cooking demonstrates the traditional feminine belief that women cook in order to nurture their families as discussed by Friedan (1963) and Hochschild
Robert Louis Stevenson's "The Strange Case of Dr.Jekyll and Mr.Hyde" depicts the notion of the exploration of good and bad that resides in human nature. The main character, Dr.Jekyll/Mr.Hyde, is shown to struggle between those two forces. However, it is only until the very last chapter "Henry Jekyll's Full Statement of the Case" where the theme of good versus evil is fully transpired. There, the theory of the duality of human nature is revealed within the Jekyll-Hyde relationship after witnessing the events prior to the character's death. This theme is central, as it forces us to contemplate the management of our own battle with these two forces that fester beyond our control. In addition to Jekyll and Hyde's support of the theme of human nature,
In the Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, Robert Louis Stevenson depicts the two intriguing personalities of Dr. Jekyll, that is, Jekyll himself, a respected and enthusiastic doctor, and Mr. Hyde, the personification of the evilness that existed inside the former. By the end of the story, the lawyer and doctor’s friend, Gabriel John Utterson is left a final letter that explains the occurred events and the real nature of Mr. Hyde. Though Dr. Jekyll intentionally kills himself by drinking his own potion, the reader is left to identify who is the real winner, whether Dr. Jekyll or Mr. Hyde, considering that though they could not continue with their lives the way they desired, they both were able

Although I have grown up to be entirely inept at the art of cooking, as to make even the most wretched chef ridicule my sad baking attempts, my childhood would have indicated otherwise; I was always on the countertop next to my mother’s cooking bowl, adding and mixing ingredients that would doubtlessly create a delicious food. When I was younger, cooking came intrinsically with the holiday season, which made that time of year the prime occasion for me to unite with ounces and ounces of satin dark chocolate, various other messy and gooey ingredients, numerous cooking utensils, and the assistance of my mother to cook what would soon be an edible masterpiece. The most memorable of the holiday works of art were our Chocolate Crinkle Cookies, which my mother and I first made when I was about six and are now made annually.
Negotiation is a discussion that takes place between two or more disputants who are trying to find a solution to their conflicting problem. This interpersonal or inter-group process can occur at three levels namely, personal, corporate and diplomatic level. In the corporate level, negotiation skills are important in both informal everyday dealings and formal transactions such as negotiating conditions of sale, mergers, legal contracts and other contracts (Maiese). Negotiations usually take place because the interested parties that wish to create something new that neither could do on their own or to resolve a challenge or dispute between them. In this essay, I will compare the similarity and difference between two negotiation books namely,
Soon, we all sat around the dinner table enjoying my grandma’s culinary specialties. There was one dish that had stuck in my mind though, possibly because it was the last dish served that night.
My mother always comes up with ways to make vegetables taste delicious. Her meals are so mouthwatering that it is known throughout the neighborhood. Occasionally, we would have many guests over during the holidays. Partying and enjoying the nice atmosphere around the dining room, however, I 've noticed that they are all there impatiently waiting for my mother 's famous chicken fettuccine pasta dish. This is when my mother is the happiest. Cooking has always been her way of entertainment and she loves seeing others happy as they enjoy her delicious meal that she work so hard on. I 've never thought food could bring people together in such a comforting way, but it taught me that as long as you 're doing something you love then it can make others happy as well. Seeing her happy always warms my
