Momma Research Paper

Among the many great lessons I have learned on my journey to adulthood, and likely the most important, is that my job as a child of God is to be as loving and giving to the world as I can be within my own limits. The person who instilled this ideology in me is the largest and most prominent influence in my life. I attribute the person I have become to the contributions of my momma.
Making sacrifices is synonymous to, Momma.At three years old my father was no longer a part of my life, and she made the decision to sacrifice a large part of herself for my brothers and me by dedicating almost the next two decades of her life to teaching, disciplining, and mentoring. Momma was there to fill a gap that I never really knew existed, having goneunnoticed

because even as my world changed, it kept on turning. My brothers and I still had everything we needed and more. Although my parents divorced when I was three, I can’t explain to anyone how it feels to grow up with just one parent. Yes, it was evident that my father was no longer there but the feeling of being wrapped in love and warmth did not leave with him. The feeling of security and stability never shifted but still there was something missing, though I did not feel it. She worked hard to provide for us and to ensure that we matured in a stable environment.
When I was three, Momma was fresh from her days in college and the six of us lived very closely in a small living space, so naturally we became close knit. During this experience, we had to learn to respect one another. Though at first it was strictly a respect for authority, it soon developed into a personal respect. Raising boys was out of her comfort zone, but she was able to do it because of things she saw her father do growing up. Momma fought for us to become great people while always putting God first. She showed us what it really means to care about something.
Momma taught me to chase my future; to go take fate into my hands and never stop striving for excellence.

It is this philosophy which I will take with me in my first days as an independent, through to the first days living without my momma there to instruct me any further. Looking back on when parenting in my eyes was paying for field trips and cooking dinner and now, I realize that there’s so much more to it than love and protection. The goal in raising a child is to educate them on how to navigate through this world with purpose and good intent. She taught me to want more out of life, and thus, I do not set goals to achieve them, but rather to surpass them. For example, I don’t just want to create new technology. My objective is to develop technologies specifically for communication-based media companies to even the playing field for African Americans. Newly developed technologies allow independent media companies within the emerging market to connect with their audiences and peers thus creating an economical powerhouse which competes directly with its larger counterparts to produce more diversified forms of media which truly represent diversity with the respective communities on a global basis. To achieve a goal such as this, I will strive to meet every step on the stairway there. Momma has been and will be there with me, through my years in grade school to my goals in learning programming and robotics. All around me there are those who do not strive to excel, and

will forego the extra mile in exchange for the easy route. These people, I have been advised, do not accomplish their goals. Momma has given me all of the love, knowledge of self, self-esteem, academic technique and confidence I need, and with this she can rest assured that when I take my first steps into my classes at Clark Atlanta University, I will truly make her proud.

The last year has been centered on the idea of pushing me out of the nest and allowing me to find my way, because after all, one can only learn to fly if given that chance to flap their wings. There is no fear in this experience—I know that until I am able to row this boat on my own, my momma will always be there with spare paddles.I want to give the world everything I have, like my momma has given me. I am extremely grateful to have her, and more often than not I find myself feeling lucky to have such a potent force driving behind me and motivating me day after day. I am confident that one of these days, I will return what God has given me by playing the same part in someone else’s life. I owe the universe that energy.
