Hello Guy and Alece, Momma liked the Teddy Bear card that you sent; she likes all of your cards. Yes! She likes Teddy Bears and so do I. I have an antique Teddy Bear, which is made of Mohair. The label states that it is a “Willie Bear” and was made in California by the Hawkins Company. Momma fell on the 10th of September and experienced a difficult week, before she was able to walk again, but she is doing much better now. She goes back to the doctor Monday (9/26/16). She is now on a new medication for Dementia and I think it is helping her a lot. Actually it seems to be making her more independent, in her thinking and just a little bit stubborn. She will be glad to see you anytime and we are here most days. Her brother is in the Conway
... in her favor. Alzheimer’s isn’t preventable nor is it something that when someone has it, they can be compared to “wizened toddlers at a tea party.” That statement was uncalled for and unnecessary. It doesn’t work in her favor because it makes her seem ignorant.
Chapter 10 of Laurie Kaye Abraham’s Mama Might Be Better Off Dead mainly discusses the spread of preventable illnesses and the possible reasons poor areas have low immunization rates. Child immunization clinics fail to reach poor children because they are overburdened with patients, leading to long wait times. These clinics often require doctors to give a complete physical before giving shots and do not track children’s immunization records. Little effort goes into case management, which could assist in ensuring that vulnerable populations come in for preventative care. The author condemns Medicaid as a culprit for these other factors since states curtail expenses by creating barriers for poor families that would benefit from its programs. The argument about the majority of Medicaid spending going to nursing-home care versus to care for poor children and women is compelling and upsetting. How could a program designed primarily for the protection of poor children and mothers neglect to provide families with preventative care?
Using the murder of Dee Ann’s mother as a means to intertwine the lives of the characters together, Steve Yarbrough examines the nature of relationships in “The Rest of Her Life.” The relationships in the story take a turn after Dee Ann’s mother is killed, with characters seeking to act more on their own, creating distance between many relationships throughout the story. Independent lifestyles prevent emotional bonds that hold relationships together from forming, thus preventing the characters from maintaining healthy relationships. The dysfunctional relationship present between Dee Ann and Chuckie in “The Rest of Her Life” is the result of the characters ' desire for self-gratification.
Upon reading your responses, I can see how individuals are labeled based on race and on stereotypes. In the film, “Boyz n the Hood”, I agree to what Sabrina said about the two scenes expressing discriminatory treatment by the criminal justice system. It was sad to see how when you are in need of help and the only source is turning their backs. It is not fair to be judged by your ethnicity, class, or where you live. This is related to labeling theorist, Howard Becker; whereas he states that certain individuals can even be labeled by being falsely accused. An individual can be labeled as a deviant, because of their race and yet never committed a crime (Adler, Mueller, & Laufer 2013, p. 189). We saw this in the one scene you pointed out, whereas Tre and his dad called the cops because of the break in at their home. Then
The story of Miss. Julianne took me to my childhood. When I was 13-14 years, my Nana was also suffering from dementia at that point. I was too young at that point to understand his situation, now in nursing I am learning about different diseases and how patients react to those particular situations, I can relate more to his pain and understand from what he was going through. As in the story Miss Julianne forgets things, as she said, “Where are my dentures?” (Lenar, K., 2016,), and she blames others, “and
The short film ‘Teddy’ Bears set in 1907, has features where you can clearly see Edwin S. Porter mixed solid techniques with different materials. It has an admirable sequence of stop-motion scenes that is as enjoyable to watch as it is impressive in its technique. The film can be considered part fairy tale, as well as part violent political satire and a puppet animation.
‘Here Comes Honey Boo Boo’ is a television series that many people have been aware of since August 2012. Depicting the life of a southern low class family, Alana Thompson, the star of the show, participates in pageants and displays her charismatic personality throughout every episode. Mama June, Alana’s mother, is known for her extreme couponing ways in order to take care of her large family living in McIntyre, Georgia. Recently, ‘Here Comes Honey Boo Boo’ took a turn for the worst when Mama June started dating Mark McDaniel, a registered sex offender in the state of Georgia. He is accused of molesting Mama June’s daughter, Anna Cardwell, when she was just eight years old. According to Radar Online, “Officer Bauch wrote in the report that Anna
Denise Uyehara the playwright and actress performed a solo piece “Hello Sex Kitty” that delved into the issues of “sexuality, dating, domestic violence, and the AIDS epidemic by portraying several vastly different caricatures of Asian women and men” (Lee 173). She relates these issues to the female identity through a comedic, sexual, and realism performance. Denise Uyehara broke down the fourth wall and included audience participation in her performance in order to further involve the audience in her journey of the “borderless identity” (Lee 171). She essentially stripped down the stereotypes and identities placed on Asian women from different situations in order to present the female identity to its barest form. In scene two “Vegetable Girl”
One will never know his or her wrong doing unless reality checks them for things they have done. In the bible it says all sins are equal no matter how bad you think something is in God’s eye it all measured the same. "In A good man is hard to find, the author shows us through the character of Grandma and the Misfit that we need to see our own flaws. Imagine attempting simple everyday tasks and struggling because of confusion or memory loss. Well unfortunately, this is what it is like for many people with dementia. The severity of dementia ranges from person to person, but is there anything that can help? Music therapy, for one, can actually be tremendously helpful for those with dementia in more ways than the average person might think.
The star text of a celebrity can help to decipher their image and transitions they may undergo. In order to better understand these transitions, one must know the definition of a star text. A star text is the sum of everything we affiliate with celebrities, which includes their body of work, promotion, publicity, and audience participation (Jackson, 08/09/16). One must note that “celebrity doesn 't happen because someone has extraordinary qualities – it is discursively constructed by the way in which the person is publicised and meanings about them circulate” (O 'Shaughnessy and Stadler 424). Destiny Hope Cyrus, “an American singer and actress, became a sensation in the television series
Josh Tillman, a.k.a. Father John Misty, is a man who sees himself as a kind of modern day prophet for skepticism and cynicism. One would be hard-pressed to find a more unique, modern musician. He carries himself with a kind of raw, mountain-man type crudity, which is then manifested in his violently honest and intelligent lyrics. Specifically in reference to his latest album, ‘I Love You, Honeybear,’ one finds an honest, self-aware, yet pervasively cynical Tillman. The anti-hero in a love album which is decidedly an anti-love album.
...the world. There is no cure for dementia and the other diseases relating to dementia. Dementia is the leading cause of Alzheimer’s Disease. Alzheimer’s Disease is also the most common disease with dementia (Wieregna, Bondi, 2011). Dementia can affect the patient and families in many emotional ways. Knowing that their loved one will be going through many mental disabilities and probably won’t be able to recall some memories can be tragic. Dementia can also affect families financially. The cost for a patient significantly rises every year due to the increase of the population (Hurd, 2013). Dementia can also lead to Parkinson’s and Huntington disease, which can affect the mobility of the patient (Quinn, Busse, Dal Bello-Hass, 2013). Dementia is still one of the most widely diagnosed diseases around the world. Without a cure for it, many more people will be affected.
