A hero is a man/woman of distinguished courage or ability who has performed a heroic act and is regarded as a model or ideal person. I chose Officer Moira Smith as my hero because she has shown . She was employed with the NYPD for 13 years (Police Officer Moira Smith). Throughout her entire career, she has shown extreme courage and has risked her life to save others countless amount of times.
For example, on August 27, 1991 there was a horrible subway crash in Union Square, there was 216 passengers on board and many of them were injured, Smith saved dozen of lives, and earned the Police Department’s Distinguished Duty Medal (NYPD angels). Yes, you may argue that it's her job, but in numerous articles it states she went beyond her expectations of a police officer to save the lives of dozens of people.

Sadly she didn't get out, she died saving hundreds of lives, and that is a true hero. Yes, she is a police officer and that's her job but she had the opportunity to get out, she could have if she wanted to but she wanted to help more people, she wanted to save more lives. ...erall, I think that this interview has taught me that every law enforcement officer have a different opinion and it should be voiced. Mr. Cayette told me exactly how he felt without holding back. It was different just listening to the responses because it was said by an actual officer instead of just another ordinary person expressing how they feel. The interview also made me realize that people cannot be mad at every police officer for one police officer’s wrong doing. According to National Law Enforcement Memorial Fund, “There are more than 900,000 sworn law enforcement officers now serving in the United States, which is the highest figure ever. About 12 percent of those are female.” People should stop listening to the media all the time because it does convince people to hate police officers because there are many police officers in the U.S. with good intentions.
Webster’s dictionary defines a hero as any man admired for his courage, qualities or exploits, especially in war. Some people attribute the term hero mostly to war. My personal definition of a hero is someone who takes a stand against evil or an unjust cause. The term hero can be applied to anyone, it isn’t necessary to save the world from explosion to be a hero. The act of standing up for a friend can also be called a heroic act.
