Mid-Term Paper
This Essay will be about the life and accomplishments of Mohandas
Karamchand Gandhi. And will also discuss Civil Disobedience.
Throughout history most national heroes have been warriors, but Gandhi ended British rule over his native India without striking a single blow. A frail man, he devoted his life to peace and brotherhood in order to achieve social and political progress. Yet less than six months after his nonviolent resistance to
British rule won independence for India, he was assassinated by a religious fanatic. Gandhi was one of the gentlest of men, a devout and almost mystical Hindu, but he had an iron core of determination. Nothing could change his convictions.
This combination of traits made him the leader of India's nationalist movement.
Some observers called him a master politician. Others believed him a saint. To millions of Hindus he was their beloved Mahatma, meaning "great soul."
Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was born on Oct. 2, 1869, in Porbandar, near
Bombay. His family belonged to the Hindu merchant caste Vaisya. His father had been prime minister of several small native states. Gandhi was married when he was only 13 years old.
When he was 19 he defied custom by going abroad to study. He studied law at University College in London. Fellow students snubbed him because he was an
Indian. In his lonely hours he studied philosophy. In his reading he discovered the principle of nonviolence as enunciated in Henry David Thoreau's "Civil
Disobedience," and he was persuaded by John Ruskin's plea to give up industrialism for farm life and traditional handicrafts--ideals similar to many
Hindu religious ideas.
In 1891 Gandhi returned to India. Unsuccessful in Bombay, he went to
South Africa in 1893. At Natal he was the first so-called "colored" lawyer admitted to the supreme court. He then built a large practice.
His interest soon turned to the problem of fellow Indians who had come to South Africa as laborers. He had seen how they were treated as inferiors in
India, in England, and then in South Africa. In 1894 he founded the Natal Indian
Congress to agitate for Indian rights. Yet he remained loyal to the British
Empire. In 1899, during the Boer War, he raised an ambulance corps and served the South African government. In 1906 he gave aid against the Zulu revolt.
Later in 1906, however, Gandhi began his peaceful revolution. He declared he would go to jail or even die before obeying an anti-Asian law.
Thousands of Indians joined him in this civil disobedience campaign. He was imprisoned twice. Yet in World War I he again organized an ambulance corps for
“ First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win” (Mahatma Gandhi). Gandhi was born in 1869 in Porbandar. Throughout his life Gandhi helped those in need. He was taught that everyone and everything is holy. He married at the custom age of 19 and went to London to study law. The thing that helped Gandhi promote nonviolence is that he worked his entire life saying that violence didn’t change the way people acted. He lived his life saying that an eye for an eye only made the whole world blind. Gandhi’s nonviolent movement worked because he had something to prove and everyone else in the world agreed with him.

This idea is presented in this line of dialogue between the boys, ”’I’m not drunk,’ Miguel insisted. ‘And you’re a phony.‘ ‘You’re p*ssed off because I’m going to see Flora,‘ said Rubén. ‘You’re dying of jealousy. Do you think I don’t catch on to things?’“ (251). In this scene the two boys, Miguel and Rubén, dispute over their same love interest Flora. When Rubén says, “You’re p*ssed off because I’m going to see Flora” it shows the first fight between the two over the girl and it makes the two boys enemies which is shown in the first archetype discussed when Miguel overcomes this argument and saves Rubén’s life. A similar archetype to this is in Beauty and the Beast when The Beast and Gaston both love Belle but she does not make it clear who she is in love with at first. The idea of the Love Angles is supposed to show how two character have a love interest on the same character like Rubén and Miguel do on Flora and the love interest, Flora, does not show who she likes. This is so easy for us to understand because we have seen this archetype many times before and if not in Beauty and the Beast, there still is Bridget Jones’s Baby, The Fifth Wave, and The Book of Life; therefore strengthening the idea that archetypes make it so there are

The determinist believes that man cannot act freely if his actions are causally determined. As Philosopher A.J. Ayer suggests in Freedom and Necessity, if a man has a choice between choosing A or B, there will be a consistent explanation
The Autism Spectrum is a mystery. With no cause or cure, researchers have been working hard, to the best of their abilities, to diagnose, treat, and educate those with autism. For centuries, since 1943, with enhanced technology, the view on autism has improved tremendously. New advancements have been developed to diagnose autism earlier, help create more successful treatments, and to help better an educational plan for people with autism.
Autism is a genetic disorder that typically appears during the first three years of life. There has been five chromosomes thought to be directly connected to autism. The disorder is a complex developmental disability. Autism is the result of a neurological disorder that has an effect on normal brain functions, affecting development of the person’s communication and social interaction skills. There are many different ways to classify autism; by difficulties in social interaction, verbal and non-verbal communication and repetitive behavior. Autism appears to have its roots in very early brain development, however most signs of autism become obvious around two and three years old. According to the U.S Centers for Disease and Control and Prevention about 1 and 68 American children are diagnosed with Autism. Studies have showed that autism is four to five times more common in boys than girls. Which is an estimated 1 out of 42 boys are diagnosed with it compared to an estimated 1 out 189 girls are diagnosed with in the United States. Autism rates. There is many different causes linked to Autism. The two main factors that are mainly discussed are that Autism is genetically inherited and autism is established via environmental factors.

Gandhi has obviously had the greatest influence in India and South Africa where he worked for the rights of Indian citizens under British rule. While working in South Africa Gandhi experienced first hand the oppression Indian immigrants were facing. In 1984 he organized the Natal Indian Congress to help the Indian community in South Africa. Gandhi's ability as a leader first showed itself during the Anglo-Boer War in 1899 when he had over 1000 Indians serving under him in the Ambulance Corps to help the injured on the British Side.
Compatibalists aim to resolve the tension between ‘free will’ and ‘determinism’ by creating a neutral thesis by which both views are logically consistent. Modern philosophers such Hobbes, Locke, Mill and Hume, see compatibilism as a way to reconcile free will with modern science. They state that the most moral decisions that humans make, require both external determined factors and internal acts of free will. Hume states that free will and reasonable action must be caused by an individual, immediately bridging a gap between free will and determinism. These philosophers argue that freedom requires causation, and that without it, there would just be randomness. Therefore, in order to sway from randomness, choice must be a causal factor. And if choice is a causal factor, then it must also be a determinant. Thus linking back to how free will cannot be completely understood without determinism. Compatibalism suggests that human choices are a combination of both free will and determinism. Searles depicts this by saying compatibalism‘denies the substance of free will while maintaining its verbal shell.” Compatibalists then in some way rearrange the definition of free will in order to fit determinism, with the focus rather than being solely will, be ‘freedom of action’. Yet the change in translation it is not that large of an issue according to compatibalists, since freedom is
“The strongest physical force bends before moral force when used in the defense of truth.” - Mahatma Gandhi (Bondurant). Mahatma Gandhi was the main leader in helping India become independent through the principles of non violence, self-rule, and the unity of Hindus and Muslims. His full name was Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, but he was given the name Mahatma later on in his life. He wanted to see an united India without the rule of the British Empire. He accomplished this with passive resistance or resistance by non violence because he wanted to show that violence is not always the best answer.
With life comes death. With death comes mourning, sorrow, grief, and depression. Everyone goes through it, and it happens multiple times in their life. Death is a thing that nobody likes to talk about. We turn the other cheek when it is mentioned because most of us, like me, do not comprehend well with it. Death happens anytime it wants to whether we expect or not, which most of the time not knowing when it will happen is how death works. Since death is so unexpected it means we have no time to prepare for what lies ahead of us.
