What will you do at Christmas? These ideas may help for those who live on their own.
Modest proposal for the lonely at Christmas

Christmas time is always a joyous time to enjoy with friends and relatives, but it's also one when one will suddenly realise how lonely one is. There're no people that haven't got few beloved relatives dead. Christmas time is the one when most families will reunite around a table to enjoy a Christmas lunch. They'll sing carols and they'll laugh a lot, that is, if the dirty linen isn't aired at one stage of the family reunion. It sometimes happens when many relatives get together on this occasion, but they have hardly seen each

other during the year. It's like walking on a time bomb, I'd say. Envy them not nor get depressed not, because Christmas is coming and you have nobody to celebrate with.
Are you sure?
On these days, people who live on their own abound. There're widows or widowers, people who are separated or divorced from their partners or people who have lost a loved one and all of these most definitely live close to us. We most probably talk to them while doing our usual jobs or have a cuppa once in a while.
Ask them how they'll spend Christmas. If they moan about the so called festive season and they complain on how lonely they are, suggest on spending either Christmas Eve or Christmas Day together. Together, you can contribute in a joint amount of money to spend on food and drink and, perhaps, a present. This plan will be stimulating enough to look forward to Christmas in better spirits. There's a lot to prepare even if it's for two.
Another option may be just spending these couple of days on one's own, doing as one pleases. No fuss or drama. After all, one is one's fest friend or so it should be. One isn't going to have sour arguments with oneself nor it's going to quarrel for minor domestic tasks. There're many things that one can do on its own if one doesn't have a chance to celebrate with someone else. They're only a couple of days to
celebrate. Think of what you're going to have at Christmas Eve or Christmas Day. Shop for food and drink. As you're alone, you won't have to spend a lot of time in th kitchen and this will give you a chance for a good walk in the surroundings. It's sometimes necessary to have some time in solitude far from crowds and noise. Being on one's own, we can sometimes do many more things than staying with people. There's no reason to be sour or depressed at Christmas, because we happen not to have anyone to celebrate with. There're others like ourselves out there and we're our best friends.
With the sled as old as the marriage and a brake as old as their daughter their ritual is now a strong bond which they hold dearly to their hearts. This family ritual is strong and makes them look forward to each Christmas together as a family. Knowing that they will always be there to carry on the tradition that they have installed in themselves.
Christmastime is a time of joy, peace and love. It is also a time where people put aside their differences, accept one another for who they are and practice unconditional love. Right? Well, apparently not if you happen to lean towards the left politically. After all, there is nothing that liberals won't attack these days.
Gift-giving nowadays is no longer an act of kindness, but rather a political measure, taken to ensure one’s status with one’s acquaintances. While the general feeling of "goodwill towards men" still pervades the season, albeit filtered through television and municipal decorating projects, there is a great tension that precedes the actual Christmas holiday itself. I remember Christmases of my youth as enjoyable times, to be sure, but also as times when it was best to stay clear of my mother, who was inevitably in
The play that I read for my independent reading report was Leslie Bricusse's "Scrooge". This play is a Christmas musical, which takes place in the 1800's. It stars Ebenezer Scrooge, a grouchy old businessman who hates Christmas, and every other day of the year. All he cares about is money, and his own personal gain. Not caring about his employees, he tries to make Bob Cratchit work on Christmas. But after a lot of pleading, Scrooge lets him off for Christmas, but cuts his pay.
Confronted by multiple people who have the spirit of Christmas to share, Scrooge denies it. His nephew wants him to attend their Christmas dinner and two poorly men ask for him to give to their charity. Scrooge says Christmas time isn’t any different from the rest of the year. He doesn’t spend time with his family or give money to the poor any other time so why should he waste it now. He expresses his disgust by saying, “Bah! Humbug!” (Dickens 19). The town in which the characters live has the very poor and the very rich. This doesn’t mean one lives in poverty while the other has nothing to worry about. The different types of poverty aren’t by the amount of money they have, Those who are getting as much out of live as they can
In the story A Christmas Carol, written by Charles Dickens, Ebenezer Scrooge is given a once in a lifetime chance. After treating everyone around him with such little care, Scrooge is visited by his late employee, Jacob Marley. Marley and Scrooge have a lot in common, they are both greedy old men who only care about their money. After Marley’s death he visits Scrooge to warn him of his doomed fate and tell him that he is going to be visited by the ghosts of Christmas past, present and future. Throughout this novela, Dickens reveals the theme of compassion through the main characters loneliness, regrets and realization.
Ebenezer Scrooge is the major character in the story, A Christmas Carol written by Charles Dickens. A Christmas Carol is about how a “cold-hearted, tight fisted, selfish” money grabbing man is offered an opportunity of a life time, to change his behaviour, attitude... to have a second chance in life.

A Christmas Carol was written by Charles Dickens in 1843. Life for the lower class during this time was extremely hard because of enormous amounts of illnesses, young children worked and no education. A Christmas Carol was set in mid 19th century, during this time people had a really bad time; most of the people was unemployed and the people who were employed were paid deficiently, others were seasonal or casual, which meant they were when work was available so most of the families lived in poverty which means that they didn’t have access to nice food and clothes and children were also used for the family income so the children had to work in work houses. In contrast the rich people had access to doctors, plenty of food and didn’t have to work, had nice clothes to wear and had a nice life. Charles Dickens wrote A Christmas Carol to highlight the plisht of the poor.
Christmas is a special time of year that deserves to be remembered for its true meaning. Every year, Christmas becomes more and more commercialized and society forgets the origin of Christmas. It was not started with cookies, toys, and a fat man that delivers them, but instead it started with a humble inn where our Savior was born. The definition of Christmas is “a holiday on December 25 celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ.” Nowhere in that definition does it say anything about the outrageous pressure society has set on consumers to buy, buy, buy during the Christmas season. Christmas is about presence not presents.
Meeting the Ghost of Christmas Past begins the first stage of Scrooge’s transformation: regretting his actions. When Scrooge is shown his younger self alone in his classroom on Christmas, he regrets chasing a Christmas caroler away from his door. The Spirit skips ahead a few years to show him a happier time. His sweet little sister Fan arrives to take him home, and this is his first Christmas in a long time that is spent with family. Unfortunately, Scrooge doesn’t see it that way; seeing this scene makes him “uneasy in his mind” as he thinks about the way he treats his nephew Fred. Instead of treating him like his only family member, Scrooge denies invitations to Christmas dinner every year and is rude whenever Fred speaks to him. He doesn’t have time to dwell on this for long, however; Scrooge has many other important things to think...
Christmas decorations should create a feeling of magic. The desire to create a magic home and bringing the spirit of Christmas can seem heavy these days. It becomes heavy and hard to carry, that parents now feel over the need to make
This trend isn’t just happening in Canada. People in the United States, the United Kingdom, France, and other developed countries are increasingly living alone. Why are so many people living alone these days, and why does it matter? Why More People Are Living Alone
Every year, my parents add a little more to the outside decorations. My mom, sisters, our children and myself decorate the inside of the house. My mom has so many indoor decorations that they can not all possibly be displayed. We try to change the decorations, which we put out every year. The men finish up just about the same time as, we women and then it is time to decorate the tree together. The children love this the most.
Ever since I could remember, I have spent Christmas at my grandmother’s house, a house which is full of comfort, warmth, and happiness. At Christmas, I have always been able to escape the cold and dark real world allowing myself to truly enjoy just several moments in time. These moments have left impressionable memories from my childhood making Christmas a holiday that is special to me and my family. It is a time for my family to get together, share stories, laugh, and even cry.
