The Technology of Baseball
There is so much technology all across the world like in sports, homes, stores and schools. Technology can be used for many things but this paper will show how it can be used in America's Pastime, Baseball.
Baseball has developed its technology over the past few years. Just recently they added replay just like the NFL and also a timer that counts down from and in that set amount of time you have to be in the batter's box before the time expires. According to MLB.com the official " second rule" states "A pitcher shall be allowed 20 seconds to throw each pitch. The batter must be in the box prepared for the pitch during the entire 20-second period. If the batter steps out ofthe box during the 20-second period, the

pitcher may deliver the pitch and the umpire may call a strike, unless the batter was first granted time by the umpire." This means that if one player is not ready in this time then that person that is not ready will get penalized. Another piece of technology in baseball is the new play tracker called Statcast. This new piece of technology shows hitting metrics. Hitting metrics contain the projected distance of home runs and its exit velocity as well as fielding metrics like top speed when running to get the ball, total distance covered when tracking a ball down and arm strength which measures how hard the baseball was thrown in miles per hour. An example of this new technology is Carlos Correa. Statcast tracked his home run distance and exit velocity. Correa had a home run distance of 461.6 and the exit velocity was 113.6 mph. A piece of technology to help training is called the Zepp Baseball 3-D Swing Analyzer. This trainer helper can be attached to the knob of the bat, and then connected to your phone by an app. Bat weight, height and tendencies can be logged in to improve the results of the Zepp. To get single player analysis sign in with different accounts that match the player being broken down. The camera of your smartphone has to be lined up where the app says it should be. Next you swing and wait for the results, it shows the bat speed, bat path and contact point. This can be used for more than just baseball, like tennis and golf as well. The MLB breaks down about every person in every game while it’s being aired. When a batter is walking up to the plate, they show their batting average, home runs hit, average hit on that specific pitcher and more. They do this for the pitchers as well, like ERA ( earned run average), strikeouts, walks and sometimes even average strikeouts a game. They do more than just this, they are able to analyze players at-bats and what they could do differently like bat path. Also on the network they can make projected lineups and based on stats, determine the best players at their single position, it’s called the shredder. Sometimes when games are aired they have something called a shift tracker on the top right to have the fans at home see what shift the infielders and outfielders are in. What else can technology be? Helmets. A long time ago there was no helmets for anyone whatsoever. They used to just use hats, but later people realized that without proper protection baseball could be deadly. They use helmets in case of a wild or intentional pitch that hits you, which could cause serious or fatal injuries. There were many deaths and injuries from the 1900’s and 1930’s so they made the helmet for safety and to prevent anymore of this happening. Motus is a company that makes training tools to help baseball players perform better and help them learn where there power is coming from.
It also helps the players understand if they could get injured by the way their mechanics work. The Motus website even states this, “ Our unrivaled and ever-growing biomechanical database has provided a wealth of insight into how athletes use their bodies to create power, torque and speed. We have also gained great insight into how over-usage and/or mis-usage often lead to injury. These insights have led to the creation of advanced biomechanical analyses that help athletes, their coaches and trainers prevent injury and improve performance. Motus' expanding line of wearable technology makes our biomechanics services even more accessible.” Motus wants to continue to create products like these and further help athletes across the world.
According to the website “ Hard Ball Times.com”, there is going to be even more technology in baseball. It states that 20 years from now, baseball is going to look the same as it does now but it will have an “ unseen” side to the game. In the game, they will be wearing technology that cannot be seen, this technology analyzes
All in all, technology in baseball has grown tremendously and it is unbelievable to think how much technology is used now for what used to be a simple game. Technology is all around you, in sports, and just in everyday
life.
Is baseball America’s pastime? For the major leaguers maybe, but for college athletes it seems more like a new age video game. The introduction of high dollared aluminum bats produce football like scores, higher statistics, and a percentage of danger to each and every player on the field. The NCAA has changed the regulations of the bats so far and should look further into to making another change to wooden bats.
The current trend in baseball park construction is a retro design, reminiscent of the early years, combined with modern technology. This trend, dubbed “The Construction Era” by Frank Deford of Sports Illustrated, is prominent in three new American League parks: Oriole Park at Camden Yards, Jacobs Field, and The Ballpark at Arlington. The current idea for ballpark construction is to locate the retro style parks in the heart of urban areas. The whole movement was initiated by the construction of Oriole Park at Camden Yards, and it’s radical new design concept.
Baseball has been of the longest living sports in our world today. The game started with the idea of a stick and ball and now has become one of the most complex sports known in our society. Several rules and regulations have been added to help enhance the game for everyone. Although baseball has endured several issues during its history and development of the game the game has still been a success throughout the world.

The game of baseball can be divided into three broad categories: hitting, pitching, and defense. No other facet of the game gets as much attention as hitting. For example, every year the MLB puts on a home run derby. No other part of the game draws as much attention. The traditional statistic that measure hitting ability is batting average (BA or AVG). To find a players batting averag...
Many people might think that swinging the bat straight through the ball would be enough to hit the ball a decent distance off the bat. There's many more mechanics involved in the swinging process. Muscle has only a small part to play in the swinging a bat for power. There are two types of mechanics involved while swinging a bat, Linear and Rotational. Rotational mechanics are the dominant source of power in the swing. Out of the rotational mechanics come the two forces that help generate the speed and power of the swing, torque and the other comes from the energy of rotation. Speed from the energy of rotation comes from the path that your hands follow as you swing the bat. The speed generated by the circular rotation from your hands is like a ball at the end of a string, as long as your hands are moving in a circle then the ball continues to accelerate in a circle. So the bat will also move in at an increasing speed as long as your hands are following a circular path as you swing. Any foward movement of the hands or body in a straight line won't add to the overall bat speed.
June 28, 2018. Alexander Cartwright’s new set of rules formed the basis for modern baseball. The rules included a diamond-shaped infield, the three-strike rule. And tagging runners by throwing balls at them was not allowed in his rules.
...ercent grantees that the best teams will face off in the World Series. Baseball has been a game of adaptation, with the end of the dead ball era by putting cork in the ball, the games populatirty grew because the chance of home runs and harder hit balls made the game more entertaining and interactive. By adding steroid testing, the playing field has been leveled so that no one person has a distinct advantage over another. Both are examples of how the game has developed to benefit both the fans and to the players. The whole world is evolving into a time of equality and fairness and baseball is the last of the major sports in America to adapt this rule of reviewing plays that are controversial.
“Batter up!” the umpire yelled from behind home plate on the diamond-shaped field for the inning to begin. Adrenaline rushed through the players’ veins as the crowd cheering echoed from the bleachers to the outfield. Softball and baseball are team sports which both require an umpire and a diamond shaped field. All players are important.
When you strike a bat against a ball it sends vibrations, much like the vibrations acting on airplanes or bridges, which travel in waves through the bat. This motion is important to understand because every vibration the bat experiences takes energy away from the ball's speed as it leaves the bat.
Baseball is a fascinating sport that is exceptionally fun to play. This assignment is all about understanding the physics of a few key aspects of this sport. One might ask what physics could have to do with baseball? Like most sports baseball involves physical motion. Baseball encompasses all three planes of motion through throwing, hitting, and fielding. All of the classical laws of mechanics can be applied to understand the physics of this game.
Baseball is known as America’s national pastime, and has been played for over 100 years. Baseball can be a lot of fun, but is also extremely challenging to play, especially trying to hit a 90 mile per hour fastball. I am a very devoted baseball player myself, and over the years I have learned numerous key things about the game. Baseball does not only require physical strength to hit and throw the ball, but it also requires a great mindset, such as, mental preparedness, concentration, and a positive attitude.
Upon further investigation, baseball is more than just “One, two, three strikes you’re out,”there is a whole world of physics interacting and exerting itself upon the game, unseen to the human eye. So next time one sees a batter hit a home run off a knuckle ball at Coors Field in Denver, one will have a great appreciation for the physics of the game that came into play within that play.
Since the sport first emerged, baseball and America have shared the same values, responded to the same events, and struggled with the same social and economic issues. To learn of the ideals concerning the sport of baseball in America, is to know the heart and mind of America. Baseball developed before the Civil War but did not achieve professional status until the 1870s (The Baseball Glove, 2004). In 1871, the National Association of Professional Baseball Players was formed. Unfortunately, the organization ran into financial hardships and was abandoned in 1875.
...nstructions however, a printer's error had changed sixty feet to sixty feet six inches. When this error was discovered, it was to late to do anything. Hundreds of fields around the country had already been altered, and it remains the official distance separating the pitcher from the batter. Also in 1898 the first base stealing statistics and rules that define a balk appear. By 1900 the first pentagon shaped home plate appears on a baseball diamond. The history of baseball is so interesting to see how people actually came up with this wonderful idea to play a game called baseball. If you compare the modern game now, to game in the 1800's, the game looks pretty much the same just some minor changes of how the game is played. Well to conclude my essay baseball still remains as "Americas favorite past time sport."
