Mirror, Mirror As Chili Davis says. “Growing old is mandatory. Growing up is optional”. To this day I am still learning more and more about myself everyday. Through my capstone project I learned that to put together a big project like this I have to accomplish a list of things. I should not procrastinate so I am able to get the job done on time and not feel rushed or stressed. I learned that this is hard sometimes when you have a very busy schedule. Often times I was tired or had other work to do so I would push it off. I also learned that I want to go back to Whaley’s in the summer and donate paintings there again because the people were so friendly and I really felt like I was impacting someone's lives. I believe that my project was successful. I completed my goal with Mariah of painting two paintings and setting up a meeting with Whaley’s to donate them. I really felt good after donating the paintings because the people there reacted so positively. When we did research on how art affects the brain and how it makes a positive impact I feel like we could apply it to that situation. When the people at Whaley’s saw the paintings they were instantly happy and smiling so I feel like it …show more content…
proved that our research that art has a positive effect on the brain was correct. I feel like I have grown a lot over this past year.
I have matured more as a person and have realized that I need to work hard but understand that it’s okay to give yourself a break sometimes. I often over stressed about my school work and it didn’t benefit me all the time. This project highlighted that I am creative, hardworking, and patient. I had to be creative when I came up with my painting idea and hardworking to get it done. I had to be patient when completing the painting because it took a lot of time and I really wanted them to look good. I learned that donating to your community around you not only benefits that person or group, but also benefits yourself too. I learned that I really like making people happy because it makes me happy and will be volunteering in the
future. As a presenter I have definitely improved. I remember when I would cry and shake because I had to present. Now I have no problem going first. I realized that I am more confident in myself in front of my peers. I still need to work on less talking with my hands because I do that often. I can continue improving my self-confidence when presenting and less hand movement while talking. I realized that I might want to even take a public speaking class in college to further improve my communication skills. I learned that you should put a lot of research into a topic beforehand. This makes everything father along much easier when it is all laid out in front of you. I learned that I wasn’t very good at reading through a whole research article and then sometimes I would realize later on that it wasn’t very good or useful. I now know how to look for a credible source using a variety of way and I know that I need to read more of the article before deciding that it is good and will help me with my project. I’ve learned that working on a project that actually interests you is fun. I got to learn about a great organization and got to paint which I love to do. It also taught me a lot of responsibility to get my part of the project done. I also learned to become more patient. I couldn't rush my project because then it would have turned out bad. I can apply this after high school because in college i'll have to be patient and responsible to complete my best work. I learned that you should be organized and set goals for yourself. For my project I had to make sure I had all the supplies and had set up a meeting time to donate the paintings. This will definitely be applied after High School because I don’t want to stress more in college due to the fact that I was not organized and time efficient. I can use my skills that I gained during this project to create new opportunities for myself such as volunteering, becoming more organized, and helping the community. I want to volunteer more because it was such a positive experience for me to be able to see how happy I could make other people while doing something I love. I can research many different places to donate in the future and will know how to thoroughly research the place. I also want to be more organized and by doing this I can teach others how to be more organized and how they can benefit from it. I can also create projects that will give back to the community in the future. This project has overall been a great learning and growing experience for me. I think it will help me make better decisions down the road and I will continue to grow after this. I like to keep this quote by Nicholas Sparks in mind in the future “It happens to everyone as they grow up. You find out who you are and what you want, and then you realize that people you've known forever don't see things the way you do. So you keep the wonderful memories, but find yourself moving on.”
Later that year, I was accepted into Spanish Honors Society, a volunteer based program to help out the Spanish communities near my school along with volunteering to help raise money for organizations that help less developed countries. One particular project that I helped raise money for through Spanish Honors Society, was Project Running Waters. The money raised for this event was donated to help people living in Guatemala receive fresh water through pipe systems that would be built. We raised over one thousand dollars to donate to this cause. Knowing that I can positively impact individuals in my community and in other countries makes me feel like I have grown maturely and am able to understand what needs to be done to make a difference to
In my first semester, I took English IV and dedicated all of my extra time to completing my graduation project. The project was a huge part of my grade for English, and if I did not meet the requirements for it, I would not have graduated. It was required that I write a research paper, create a product, record my progress in a portfolio, and present it all at the end of the semester. It was also required that I complete the project with a mentor. At the time, I was not sure what my career goals were, but I was interested in pediatrics and decided that it should be my topic in order to learn more about the
I realized that I was capable of conquering obstacles and working with them so I could smooth out the road for my future. With my new studying habits, and my ambition and passion to learn, I will be able to pursue my journey through hard work and determination. I now feel capable of overcoming any challenge I may face in college because of the difficulties I have already conquered. My life now moves in a way that I can keep up with and still absorb the knowledge, positivity, and other life changing experiences that I come across. My memory definitely challenged me in a new way, but I am thankful for the experience as it shaped me into the person I am
The defining moment when you transition from child to adult comes in many shapes and sizes, as for me it came when i won HOSA presidency. Being part of HOSA my junior year and my senior year being my school's HOSA chapter president taught me so much , things that will be useful in the future, like leadership as well as professionalism, “walk the walk and talk the talk” one could say. Together these two skills with the help of my fellow HOSA officers and teachers we had a blast at the Health Occupations Students of America regionals, states and, nationals.
I chose this project because when I grow up I want to become a nurse, so volunteering at OVMC was a great opportunity. There was a health fair last year at the school; I met these two nice women that asked me I would like to volunteer at the hospital, and I told them I would love too. When my family and I talked about it, we all seemed like we were on the same page about it and then we filled them out and sent them in the mail the next morning. I got a call a couple of days later to come in for an interview. Another reason I chose to do this project is because I needed to reach my amount of hours for HSTA. Halfway through the summer break, I reached my hours that I had left to do, but I loved volunteering there. I still had next summer and the school year to complete my hours; I had so much fun going there!
The volunteer program also helped me to get valuable contacts and network extensively. These contacts helped me understand the benefits of social work and the rewards it brings. They gave me information about the opportunities available in similar organizations. I am now certain that I will secure a job before even graduating. This is a great achievement. Voluntary work helped give me insight on my career. I have decided to enroll for a Masters Degree in Social Work in the next two years.
The demanding nature of the work has given me an added sense of responsibility but also of pride, fulfilment, and greater appreciation for hard work, ultimately making me more mature and dependable.
I realized that I can use a variety of things to learn new things for school and other activities and I should not just use one study method. I would benefit from studying a multitude of things including pictures, videos, slides, and study guides to cover a variety of different learning styles. I gained new insights into my learning experiences. For example, I discovered that I learn in different ways but I am mainly a RO learner, but equal parts AE and AC learner. This means that I can benefit from all three types of learning styles and I will use different techniques to learn new things.
I learned a lot about myself. I also spent a lot of time thinking about my immediate future in my academic career then I would have had otherwise. This helped me figure out some important things that I needed to do in order to be a world class engineer.
I had to mature quickly and learn how to take care of someone else besides myself. I am now a mother to four children. They have taught me how to have patience. This has become something I value very much. I have learned that in life you must wait for things. I now know that there was a reason why I had my son so early and wasn’t able to go to college upon graduating high school. I am so thankful that I had patience and waited for the right time to enter. It has been 14 years since I graduated high school, and I’m attending college and know exactly what I want to become. I had patience and took care of my babies at home before I decided to go to school. It hasn’t always been easy, but I’m so glad I
As a whole, I think that this project was a success. We were placed in
I have learned so much during my time in the Key Global Environmental Sustainability class. I realized that service and sustainability are much larger than I originally thought. Sustainability can also manifest in so many different forms. Participating in service projects this semester was so rewarding and informative. I was exposed to some things that I would never have been otherwise, and I feel better prepared for volunteering and more in the future as a result of the things that I was to do during my time here.
Over the last semester I have learned many things about myself. I have learned that no matter what anyone says I am a strong young woman that can take anything life throws at me. I have also learned a lot about myself as a person and that there is a lot more to the world then just where I grew up. I have also learned that going to a smaller school in high school was a blessing but also was bad for me in many different ways. Through this semester I have learned what my strengths and weaknesses are and how to deal with them. I have learned that some of my strengths are also weaknesses in some way and that to deal with them I must first know what they are. I have also learned what my values are and that sometimes your values change with the things you do. You should also not just settle for things that go against you values. Along with learning what my values are I learned how my personality affects my values. I so the fact that I have more of an internal happy personality affects my values because one of the top values that I have is that I have friends. This relates to the fact that my work interests are more because where I work after college must be a place where I am able to work with people. I am a very socially active person so where ever I work ...
I was able to overcome many problems and challenge myself in different aspects. At the very beginning of the year, I was very sensitive and having a bad experience meant a bad life to me. Later on, I started to realize what I am doing in school, and why I am here… I understood that life without ups and downs means you're died.
Well, as I began to get older I started to achieve more and more. When was 8 I started washing dish. That was a great achievement to me back then, but now I regret it. Now my mother makes me wash dish all the time. When I go to other people house they want me to wash their dishes. Now I hate washing dish. After learning how to wash
