You know, there were politicians at some that were legitimately in it for good change, like a good person. Not in it for more people to know there names. The new minimum wage increasement is simply a promotional idea for Kathleen Wynne’s name and re-election. And her re-election along with this idea, screws us over for the future. Which is something I personally- can’t sit by and watch. This idea- that Kathleen Wynne dreamed about one night, and decided to tell everyone about the next morning, is not only ridiculous, but unexplainably insane. If one night I were to dream that every price in Ontario was going to go up almost 19%, I wouldn’t wake up and tell everyone about it like Kathleen Wynne seemingly did, without thinking of any consequences.
Many people against raising the minimum wage create arguments such as, “it will cause inflation”, or, “ it will result in job loss.” Not only are these arguments terribly untrue, they also cause a sense of panic towards the majority working-class. Since 1938, the federal minimum wage has been increased 22 times. For more than 75 years, real GDP per capita has consistently increased, even when the wage has been
Did you know America is a nation built on immigrants? (Schwartz,2017). Immigration is a very popular topic right now and it's important to talk about it. Keeping innocent people out of our country based on fear is not right. Immigrants and terrorists are two different words, but some people may believe it is one. It is not right to keep immigrants out of our country based on religion, gender, or ethnicity. My reasons are immigrants are in need of help, we need to stick to our values, and they make a contribution to America. As you keep reading you will understand why.
It is very difficult to live in America if you are living off of minimum wage, and many Americans are living off of it today. Raising minimum wages has its benefits like gaining more money to live better, but people do not see the down side of the increases in wages. With the increase in minimum wage, it also causes the cost of living to increase. How can this help the economy or help people? Minimum wages in America should not be increased because it will cause cost of living to increase, reduce employment, and cause businesses to lose money and workers.
In this article Rex Huppke gives the argument against raising minimum wage. Huppke refers to raising minimum wage as “ like chipping away at a problem with a hammer when more precise tools are at hand.” The goal of minimum wage is to gain experience, education, and skills while first entering the workforce. The goal after that is to move up to a better paying job with the experience education, and knowledge learned. Allan Sanderson, a senior lecturer in the University of Chicago’s Department of Economics states that he would rather people have skills and improve on them. Sanderson and other economist and public policy experts are afraid of how bad the several consequences of raising minimum
Bernie Sanders was born in Brooklyn, New York on September 8, 1941. He attended James Madison High School, Brooklyn College, and the University of Chicago. In 1981, he was elected as mayor of Burlington, the state’s largest city, by a mere 10 votes. In 2006, he was elected to the U.S. Senate after 16 years as Vermont’s sole congressman in the House of Representatives. Bernie is now serving his second term in the U.S. Senate after winning re-election in 2012 with 71 percent of the vote. Bernie is the longest serving independent member of Congress in American history. If he becomes president of the United States, he will be the oldest elected president in U.S. history. Bernie will also be the first Jew to be elected president if he wins the election.

Most of the enjoying age of this people is spent in working, as they don’t want their new once to have a life they struggling through. Therefore, this essay will argue that minimum wage should be increased federally to $15/hour by 2017. Firstly, if taxes touches the sky, why should the minimum wage be on the ground? Increasing minimum wages would also create new opportunities for education as the students wouldn’t have to work crazy hours. Likewise, many couples won’t have to work multiple jobs in order to manage the household. Lastly, it will lift

Minimum wage, a basic standard that sets the lowest wage rate that an employer can pay employees. One of the main reasons of minimum wage is to protect non-unionized workers in unskilled jobs. This is because a minimum wage constitutes a base that employees or their unions may use as a starting point. Adjustments to the minimum wage are required from time to time to account for changing economic and social conditions. The profound idea of increasing the minimum wage on a federal scale is a commendable cause, however the very concept is flawed. The Federal government employed minimum wage laws for the very purpose of “preventing businesses from hiring workers for hourly wages that fall below a specified level” (Gale Minimum). Yes, this will achieve just that, although it would implement significantly more complications than actual improvements. Rather than improve things for those below the poverty line, increasing the minimum wage would only push them further down. The reason for this is “because of its adverse effects on employment and poor ability to target workers living in households below the poverty threshold” (Edwards Negative). Increasing the
In 1997, after ejecting the Conservative Party at the elections, the Labour government made the introduction of a minimum wage its first priority. As a result of the National Minimum Wage Act of 1998, the Low Pay Commission (LPC) was established. This commission is an independent body composed of 9 Low Pay Commissioners representing the different social partners with people chosen amongst employees, employers or with an academic background. The comm...
Many people take for granted the opportunities they receive through the hard work of others, but this attitude needs to stop because it has become the “norm” for students to expect their teachers and professors to provide them with an education. While it is true that in the United States, students are required to attend school until the age of eighteen, many children around the world lack this luxury. This “right” is commonly looked down upon by students, because they do not have the motivation to succeed, as they did not have to work to get into school and to pay for their schooling. Everyone takes something for granted, whether it is an education, a roof over one’s head, food on the table, or the commencement speaker at one’s high school graduation, everyone forgets to be thankful. As Admiral McRaven stated, “But of all the things I remember, I don’t have a clue who the commencement speaker was that evening, and I certainly don’t
Summer has come to an end and school back in full swing. One is ready to crush the challenges facing a 5th grader. The last bell for recess sounds. Young boys race outside to enjoy the sun’s warmth. Name calling and horse-playing around immediately begins as they plan their weekend fun. Challenging each other to execute silly acts or daring one another to flirt with the girls across the playground. One yells out if you don’t jump from the top you are a sissy. Then one hears ask Julie out first. Recess is almost over when another one yells out he won’t…he’s a gay sissy. Silence has now blanketed the playground and one could hear a pin drop. Saved by the bell it was time to line up and head back to class. The final bell of the day
Dreaming big is the right way to be. To dream big is to become what and who you want to be because, it’s your longing. Not someone else's. For instance,in Alice in Wonderland, Lewis Carroll utilized Alice’s capability to get lost in her own dreams to make connections with her real life. Dreaming big helped Alice understand reality. When Alice encountered the Cheshire Cat, he gave her a bemused response “we’re all mad here.I’m mad. You're mad”. This annotation metaphorically implies that the preposterous events that take place in dreams are so real, who’s to say they’re not? So, if someone has their mindset to where they want to be the President of the United States, even if it's “just a dream”, a dream could potentially metamorph into a reality.
