This year in AVID, all 8th grade students went on a trip to the Milpitas Pantry. This field trip for AVID wasn’t just to go look around and a have the day off, it had a purpose. As AVID students, we were given the assignment to create a video, along with three classmates, that explained the benefits of donating, or not, to the Milpitas Food Pantry. Our video would then be shared throughout TRMS and everyone would get to see. From watching the videos, Students learn that donating to the Jack Emery Food Drive, which goes to the Food Pantry, can make a major difference in someone’s life. The project’s purpose for AVID taught me, along with my group, how to influence others into making a difference to help their community
In AVID, we went on a field trip to the Milpitas Pantry. The main purpose for this trip was not just to look around, but to take the information we learned back to school and tell everyone at TRMS. The way we would share to the entire school was by forming a group in which we create a GMTR video. As the Jack Emery Food Drive kicks, in leadership sponsors the Food Drive event. While, as AVID, we inform the school the benefits of why they should donate. We planned to make a difference in educating and influencing students to help out the Milpitas Food Pantry.

For my project I worked with my three other classmates, Simon, Ngoc Trang, and Dakshata, to advertise the idea that everyone can help the Milpitas Food Pantry by volunteering.
In order to do this, we created our video within iMovie. In our video, we imported google slides which showed information about how people can start volunteering. After explaining how to volunteer, we did interviews on two people asking and if they would volunteer and why. This AVID project helped teach us more about the pantry and helped us make a difference by sharing to everyone at
TRMS. Our video for our project can influence others into making a difference in their community. From our message, students learn about volunteering, which not many students know is another option to help out the Milpitas Food Pantry. By volunteering, they can experience a bond with other workers and have friendly conversations with customers. As a volunteer, they can help sort, transfer, and garden food. Students can learn so much more about the Milpitas Pantry just by volunteering. By volunteering, they’re learning and helping their community. Our assigned project taught my group how to educate and influence others into helping their community. This AVID project helped make a difference in both my group and I as well all TRMS students. As my group worked on this project, we learned new information about our Milpitas Food Pantry and so did the people watching our video. This AVID project is one of my enjoyable assignments to work on. In conclusion, AVID’s project helped educated ourselves on how to teach others into making a difference to help their own community.

Growing up, my parents and other influential figures around me modelled the importance of community service through their continual volunteer work and dedication to improving the world around them. “A Place at the Table” is a documentary about the millions of Americans that are on the food stamp program. This group of people has been growing at a depressing rate for the last few decades. The film begins with exterior shots of various big cities in the U.S, before coming to a smaller one, Collbran, Colorado, rural town comprised of humble, needy people who are struggling to find the next meal. We see a church leader recall how when he began giving out warm meals to the public, where anyone can come and get a free meal, on Wednesday night, and an astounding 120 people showed up. It was a sign that a large number of people in Collbran were hungry and needing help. Coming from a community where everyone had what they needed this really shocked me. On Monday, April 17, the student activity council of Lester B. Pearson Collegiate Institute held a car wash at the school’s carpark. Teachers and students planned this event for over 2 weeks to raise money for their school to have better equipment for the gym facility and to have a better study-environment. Volunteering enables an individual to make a positive impact on his or her community, while empowering the individual to better his or her life. This summer, I had the opportunity to volunteer at many diverse locations. From the hospital to the local library, I truly value my experience and treasure everything it has thought me. Volunteering lets us experience and learn things that we otherwise would not have learned; volunteering opens doors for us that we may not have been able to open before. Volunteering provides us with guidance and tolerance which we may use in the future to aid us in our decisions.
