Th’ Milk of Human Kindness
There is nothing stopping the characters of William Shakespeare’s Macbeth from going towards and achieving everything that they want. Macbeth and his wife have the ability to become king and queen, which suddenly become out of sight when one family’s name gets to the throne before their own. Lady Macbeth still seeks royalty for her and her husband and decides to devise a murderous stratagem that will help them to achieve that- but not before she strips herself of her sex. The idea of becoming “unsexed” is important for her plan, but her womanly, maternal ways will limit her evil abilities. Before she can do so, she begs the spirits, saying, “Come, you spirits / that tend on mortal thoughts, unsex me here, / and fill me from the crown to the top-full / of direst cruelty. Make thick my blood. (I.v.47-50). Being able to do such horrible things is simply not possible for her in her current state of womanhood. Her selfishness is similar to the lifestyle that one famous musician lead, shown when he said “I used to live in a room full of mirrors; all I could see was me” (Jimi Hendrix). While talking in her sleep, she said “The Thane of Fife had a wife. Where is / she now? What, will these hands ne’er be clean? No / more o’ that, my lord, no more o’ that. You mar all / with this starting” (V.i.44-47). This guilt that Lady Macbeth feels is similar to that of somebody that is feeling that guilt now. Senator Hillary Clinton has been related to her numerous times because “Both characters are seen as aggressive to their battling opponent and even though Hillary Clinton only speaks figuratively about assassinating her opponent’s reputation she still means destruction like Lady Macbeth. They both ended up following through with what they intended to but were not happy in the ending”.
