There many different leadership styles that people use in their professions. One person may have an authoritarian style where as another may use a democratic leadership style. A person could also let the people do what they want employing a laisses faire type of leadership. The type of leadership one decides to use depends on how much control they need in making a decision. The leadership styles are on continuum ranging from demanding all the control, to taking in the opinions of others, to letting people make their own decisions. My personal leadership style involves using the transformational leadership.

Trust through positioning stresses how important it is to have trust and accountability in a relationship (Williams. 2000). Many soldiers returning from war deal with issues such as PTSD and depression stemming from their experiences during the war. In order for the consultant to help the soldier there must be trust and a bond formed between the two members. If there is not a bond created and a lack of trust, then the service member will not be able to open up about their issues. The issues that soldiers may deal with are difficult for others to understand since they have not experienced the same events. The process to build trust is lengthy, but the consultant can show through their action that they care by actively listening and keeping information confidential.
Some leadership styles are more effective than others. Transformational leadership is one of the most effective because it takes others thoughts in consideration. This makes people want to work in order to meet the high expectation the leader has for them. This is not seen in other styles where there some people do not have a voice and no longer feel important. The U.S. Army Research Institute for the Behavioral and Social Sciences, known as ARI, interviewed 41 active duty Army leaders. Most of the Army leaders interviewed acknowledged using strengths-based techniques to some extent, often without obvious knowledge of strengths-based leadership (Key-Roberts, 2014). Nevertheless, several soldiers have found the techniques as being very effective. Army superiors can use strength based leadership to develop juniors by identifying strengths, providing personalized feedback, capitalizing on subordinate strong attributes, building and maintaining a positive atmosphere, caring for subordinates, and empowering the young leaders (Key-Roberts, 2014).

This was a campaign, which took approximately nine years to gradually change perceptions and had many failures along the way. One of the approaches in this educational campaign was to openly protest and reject the way mental health services were negatively perceived within the military. Unfortunately due to the culture of the military, this effort failed. One of the most effective educational strategies utilized by mental health experts was conducting direct contact with personnel. This simple yet effect strategy is where an individual diagnosed with a mental illness would brief military personnel for approximately 10 minutes.

First responders have different challenges compared to the rest of the population. The challenges are due to the motto’s they swear to uphold and the public they serve. They have their own culture consisting of beliefs, language, traditions and values that are specific to their group. They are more likely to witness traumatic events that are outside the norm. They are sometime expected to kill and even be killed, especially law enforcement and military. The culture is very different then the civilian or mental health culture, for example: collectivism versus individualism. Therefore, when it comes to building a relationship with combat veterans and first responders it is essential to understand the culture. Lastly, there are common diagnosis among first responders making it important to use specific assessments. These assessments are used to identify trauma and stress related disorders such as: Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Acute Stress Disorder (ASD), Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD), Depression, and Substance Use Disorder (SUD).
STYLES OF LEADERSHIP An autocratic leadership style is one where the manager sets objectives, allocates tasks, and insists on obedience. Therefore the group becomes dependent on him or her. The result of this style is the members of the group are often dissatisfied with the leader. This results in little cohesion, the need for high levels of supervision, and poor levels of motivation amongst employees. A democratic leadership style encourages participation in decision making.
In transformation style, leadership style best for working but not effective. The process of the leadership style inspires and motivates employees to complete the work.

Possessing a shared understanding of the operational environment will aid in our planning process when conducting operations throughout our theater of operation. In every operation we execute we know that we will accept prudent risks, identification and mitigation of those risks will determine our ability to accomplish our mission. Incorporating the principles of mission command by building cohesive teams through mutual trust, fostering an environment of shared understanding, and accepting prudent risk will make me an effective adviser to the commander, aid the staff during the operations process, and provide an example for Soldiers to emulate. My involvement in all aspects of mission command is critical to the success of our organization.
Transformational leadership is one of the most popular leadership styles. According to Kendrick (2011), “Transformational leadership involves four factors: 1. idealized influence, 2. inspirational motivation, 3. intellectual stimulation, and 4. individual consideration.” These four factors make transformational leadership have an impact on followers. The goal of transformational leadership is to cause a positive change in individuals, help motivate them, and develop a leader within each individual.
Recently, when talking with an active duty member, who will be discharging from the military in two months, he explained that he feels like he was just thrown a ton of resources with information during his TAP. The service member explained that he did not retain any of the information, as it was very overwhelming for him. There are a few different types of well known leadership styles, authoritarian, delegative, and democratic. To assess my leadership style I used two online tests to help me determine my style. I felt the results were accurate and I fall into a democratic style/participative style. If I am leading I prefer to include the group and get their feedback on solving issues. However, I still make the final decision after listening to the thoughts of the group on a particular topic. This is considered to be a positive style of leadership that is inspiring to the group involved. The leaders decision making tends to be more accurate due to the input of other experts. (Cite)
