Migration has been an on going phenomena from past to present. Individuals, families, or groups of people may leave a country voluntarily or involuntarily because of events: harsh environmental or economic conditions (disease, crop failure, excess population), religious persecution, "ethnic cleansing," war, genocide. Or they may be enslaved and taken to a foreign country. Migrants may seek better jobs, freedom, or to preserve their very lives.
There is a wide spread perception shared by big business and the government that a country needs immigrants, first to take certain low paid jobs which the existing population decline to take, second, and more importantly, to overcome skill shortages in the country. Immigrants are then, seen as playing an important part in enabling the Government to achieve sustainable economic development. The effect of immigration on unemployment is negligible and that migrants create at least as many jobs as they fill. Migrants may increase unemployment in certain areas, but this is compensated by their raising the overall level of demand, like housing and household-related goods, needs etc. This promotes both a higher level and a wider range of goods and services produced, stimulating the economy and job growth. Migrants also bring new skills and experience to the recipient country. They help to reduce labor shortages for skilled personnel, and also attract international traders through their foreign knowledge and language skills. Skilled migrants also do not earn a cost to government in education or training, because most migrants come in their youth (20-39), means that they pay the taxes that will help sustain ageing population (mostly in MEDC’s). One main problem is that the movement of skilled personnel from LEDC (developing countries) to MEDC (developed countries), termed the “brain drain”, can have a harmful effect on the donor countries, this emigration deprives the donor country of the skilled manpower that they need. Emigrants can however, assist their country of origin in various other ways:
a) bank deposits – external accounts maintain in the donor country which are financial investments in the donor country economy.
This essay will discuss the issue of migration. Migration is movement by humans from one place to another. There are two types of migration, it is immigration and emigration. Immigration is movement by people into the country and emigration is movement by humans, who want to leave countries voluntary or involuntary. Economic, religious, education, social and economic problems are reasons for migration.
Immigration can be defined as passing foreigners to a country and making it their permanent residence. Reasons ranging from politics, economy, natural disasters, wish to change ones surroundings and poverty are in the list of the major causes of immigration in both history and today. In untied states, immigration comes with complexities in its demographic nature. A lot of cultural and population growth changes have been witnessed as a result of immigration. In the following paper, I will focus on how immigration helps United States as compared to the mostly held view that it hurts America.
Firstly to justify why countries limit their immigrations, there should be knowledge of the different types of immigrants as there are different reasons to leave from one country and move into another. In the last 30 years, the number of international immigrants has been estimated 191 million worldwide, two times as before. As ...
Migration is the movement of people from one place to another and it simply means arrival or departure. Migration can be internal and external, for example nationally within the country and internationally from one country to another. Now to support this claim
“Migration uproots people from their families and their communities and from their conventional ways of understanding the world. They enter a new terrain filled with new people, new images, new lifeways, and new experiences. They return … and act as agents of change.” (Grimes 1998: 66)
Immigration has undergone much change since the 20th century. However, a lot of the motives behind immigration and adaptation to a new culture and way of life have remained the same.
Many people were forced to immigrate to safer places fleeing war or conflict to save their lives in their countries. For instance, the events in Ivory Coast where the conflict forced more than one million people to flee to different nations. Some immigrants were brought to the new land against their will whereby they were shipped to America as slaves to work on the farms. Moreover, some people fled their countries because of poor governance. Those governments that were not ruling to the interest of the people or treated them in groups as a result of ethnicity, political opinion or religion made them immigrate to U.S. For instance, more than one million people fled Burma because of poor governance from the military that treated them differently
Economically, immigrants greatly boost an economy by providing new job outlets, more money to companies, and reducing the unemployment rate. A large influx of immigrants will help many companies because of supply and demand, more people equals more needs to be provided. With the average immigrant worker working at lower wages, immigrants reduce the amount of money a company loses when paying their employees. A writer at The Fiscal Times connects this idea by claiming, “Without the immigrant labor, prices consumers pay for hotels and restaurants would be substantially higher (Furchgott-Roth).” Other than keeping vacations and dinners cheaper, immigration has yielded great results in the field of education. With a majority of immigrants relocating with their family or having a family in the new country, it is highly likely for them to send their offspring to school so that they can have a good education. This bodes well for the high school and/or college they attend because the children increase the graduation rate, which is one of many factors people use to determine how good a school is. Once acquiring a higher education, many of them will decide to open up their own business or wander into the job market. The former option has yielded excellent results for the United States, with immigrants owning almost one in five of the small businesses in America (Bass). The latter keeps a
Nowadays, Immigration, which is a phenomenon of migration, is very normal and popular in the world. Furthermore, in the world, many countries have the large number of people who immigrate because of many reasons likes finding suitable jobs or new place to live. Many people think that immigrants will give them many problems about the economy and society. However, other people think that immigrants bring many profits for their countries. In my opinion, I think that all things have both good and bad sides and immigration is no exception. In the other hand, I think that immigrations will give the host countries more economic benefits than limitations.
Alejandro Portes, author of Immigrant America: A Portrait, mentions in his book that although loving and cherishing the homeland, people are sometimes forced to leave because of its disadvantages. The "desperate poverty, squalor, and unemployment" are among the most common reasons that cause immigration out of a country. Hundreds of families in third world countries literally struggle to put bread on the table. There are many people who can't find jobs and therefore aren't able to provide enough food and other everyday necessities for their families. These miserable conditions bring thoughts of moving to other places where a family can survive.
To sum up, the migration is widespread tendency what people do all over the world, but especially in areas where are low living standards or people feel discriminated. Men and women migrate because of different reasons. Women mainly migrate because they want to achieve more power, feel independent, and control their own life, also they migrate because they want to live with their husbands and children. Men migrate mostly because they want to get better job and send money to their families. The migration can be limited, but it can be effectively limited only if women and men can achieve their goals in their own countries and feel free and achieve good living standards. Also society in those countries where migration is essential problem, need to change, and try not to judge and discriminate people.
Immigration poses an ongoing debate in which people are becoming increasingly unsure as to whether immigrants are benefiting their society. This paper will examine three of the main benefits of immigration: the increase in diversity it provides, the rise in skills and labor and the benefits to the economy. Immigration leads to cross-cultural integration, therefore increasing ethnic variety. This increase in diversity is beneficial as it leads to improvements in society, as well as educational development. Increased immigration also means there are more skills and experts available to the hosting countries, as well as extra workers to take up jobs that need filling. Immigration also leads to improvements in the economy as taxes are paid and employment and wages increase.
Firstly, there are several advantages of immigration for countries such as economic growth, cultural exchange, distribution of population and low cost labor. One of the major benefits is economic growth. Globalization plays a prominent role in immigration. Immigration brings innovative ideas and makes good career. Moreover, global market appears only due to immigration. According to Dogra (2011), there are many benefits in terms of economic growth to a country. Immigration is a process which increases consumers by a large percentage. Furthermore, it is very beneficial for companies to get profit and sell their products in their relevant field. In addition to it, more and more immigrant’s leads more sales taxes it helps to a country to boost
Human displacement can be found in any time period since human existence but the numbers have been drastically increasing in the past couple of years. In order to understand why people leave their countries it is important to understand the causes of human displacement. The reasons can differ by geographical area, country, faith, family and individual.
This is most easily done my migrating from one country to another. The problems with immigration have been constant and repetitive throughout the world though. Immigrants typically are only qualified for cheap labor which ultimately limits economic growth. Many developing countries suffer because the same people they spend limited resources on by educating them leave, causing the country to suffer from “brain dead.” With immigration comes crime such as drug dealing or sex trafficking. It becomes a major issue in regards to society and politica because racism is often used to get people to react and cause changes in local populations. Problems rise when poor people feel the immigrants are receiving more benefits than they are. There are conflicts within immigrants also, making legal immigrants mad because they did it the right way and are contributing to the economy while illegal immigrants get a free ride. Also, immigrants risk their lives trying to flee their country and some even die, creating many headlines that make it seem as if immigration is not legal and not under
