Midterm Clinical Competency Assessment

Stephanie and I meet today to discuss the midterm clinical competency assessment tool. As we discussed the different sections she did explain to me that she was having a difficult time because of a few factors, first she said it is hard for her to say any nurse is accomplished in many areas because she feels as professionals we always need to be working at “being better”. Second, she feels that we have not yet had much time together to observe me in multiple scenarios which hinders a full evaluation. An example of this is after the form was filled out and we met, we then worked our shift. Today she witnessed me communicating with inter-professionals during a care conference and educating a patient’s family during discharge. She said both events would have altered her

The third and final factor that was giving her difficulty evaluating me was that I am new to this computer system and had a rock start to the practicum. With that said we were able to move on and look at the evaluation. For the portion under patient centered care we both feel I am at the developing area for number one. I can gather information from my patients to get a comprehensive psychosocial and physical history, but I do need work with consideration for cultural, spiritual, and social considerations. I need to work harder at keeping my interviews focused, leading the patients yet keeping the line of questioning open for better communication. For the safety portion she marked me as developing for subjects one, two, and three. We discussed this, and she said
