For my museum selection I decided to attend Texas State University’s Wittliff Collection. When I arrived, there was no one else there besides me and the librarian. To be honest, I probably would have never gone to an art museum if my teacher didn’t require me to. This was my first time attending the Wittliff Collection, thus I asked the librarian, “Is there any other artwork besides Southwestern and Mexican photography?” She answered, “No, the Wittliff is known only for Southwestern and Mexican photography.” I smiled with a sense of embarrassment and continued to view the different photos. As I walked through Wittliff, I became overwhelmed with all of the different types of photography. There were so many amazing pieces that it became difficult to select which one to write about. However, I finally managed to choose three unique photography pieces by Alinka Echeverria, Geoff Winningham, and Keith Carter.

There have been many bigshot artists that have gone down in music history over the years. One man in particular, however, will forever be known all over the world for his famous works and amazing stage performances. This man is none other than the one and only Jimi Hendrix. Hendrix altered the style of rock and roll during the late 60’s early 70’s and is widely considered one of the most influential guitar players amongst the music world to this day.
The film Cadillac Records is a biopic that retells the story of a few major R&B artists during the 1950s and 1960s. The film mainly focuses on the characters Muddy Waters and the Leonard Chess. The film later includes other famous artists such as Chuck Berry, Etta James, and Little Walter. It also briefly shows Mick Jagger, from The Rolling Stones near the end of the film, and occasionally Howlin Wolf and Hubert Sumlin make an appearance.
While it is the dream of every artist to make a contribution throughout his or her work and performances, not all of them were successfully able to make their dreams come true. Through Jimi’s singing and performances, he is today acknowledged for the impact that he had on the rock music we now have today. Some of his major contributions to rock music are that he improved the styles that were used to play a guitar by flipping the music upside down as well as influencing other singers on how they would sing and play the lead at the same time. He aimed to be like the musicians he admired, but he focused on creating his own form of music.
This decision changed the face of music forever. The Beatles made documentaries and videos because they weren’t touring and doing interviews anymore. They could explain the music that way, leaving more time to spend in the studio. It was necessary to stop touring for them to continue recording great music. If they hadn’t made that decision, they would have never reached their full creative potential. The Beatles still cared about their fans, so they started making films and created the visual album in Sgt. Pepper’s Band of Lonely Hearts. “The cover shows the Beatles as bandsmen surrounded by effigies of several dozen historical figures, living and dead, including Karl Marx, Marilyn Monroe, W.C. Fields, Oscar Wilde, Marlon Brando, Bob Dylan, Mohandas K. Ghandi, Shirley Temple, Karlheinz Stockhausen, and Albert Einstein”, (Crawford 492). In this album the band was creating music by another, imaginary band, outside of
Rock is derived from the genre Rock and Roll, and in the 1960’s passed through what many called the “golden age”. Despite people celebrating marriage in different ways it all comes back to one thing; marriage is a social ritual that by which two people affirms one abiding contracts between. The ceremonies are composed of rituals which symbolize facets of married life and the obligations being undertaken. In Hinduism the marriage celebration can start weeks before the actual ceremony depending on the preferences of the family. When Rock arrived on the music charts in the 1950's, a merging of African-American and White music, it made a huge impact on society. As a general rule I am not heavily into music, but I was drawn to Rock for some inexplicable reason. It is just the music I like. This genre will be difficult to write about because the origin of Rock is unclear; there are traces of Rock's style back into the 19th Century. It is also a very broad subject and I will have to compress a lot of information into as few pages as possible. Be that as it may, Rock is, in my opinion the best music genre on the charts.
...ousness of the genre and the realization of the mortality of our favorite rock stars. The 80’s gave way to the greater popularity of punk and metal, and along came cultures sometimes characterized by black clothing, macabre imagery and interests in death, the occult, and the supernatural, and elaborate makeup. During the 90’s grunge, alternative, and hip-hop inspired fashion became popular with loose fitting clothing, tartan or plaid flannels, and the popularity of sneakers like Converse, Adidas, and Nikes. A common theme through all ages of rock is rebellion, and subsequently freedom. From Elvis to The Ramones to Nirvana, rock bands and artists have always pushed the envelope. That’s what rock is and will always be: an unmistaken expression of emotions, the ultimate rejection of oppressive authority and what’s considered “normal”, and the triumph of individuality.
Ballet, What is it? It definitely is not just a girl twirling around in a tutu. Although that is what most people see it as. It is form of expression and is considered an art because with performance there is a story being told.
