Strength is the state of mind that allows one overcome an obstacle that barricades one’s path. Strength, not physically, but mentally, is the key to success in a person’s life. This characteristic is evident in former first lady, Michelle Obama, the epitome of one of the strongest people in the world. As a women, Obama rises above stereotypes as she has become an ivy league graduate (after both of her parents did not go to college), a lawyer, and an influential public speaker to all people. In fact, Obama campaigned for her husband's presidential bid throughout 2007 and 2008, as well as spoke at the 2008 Democratic National Convention. Later, she returned to deliver a speech at the 2012 Democratic National Convention, and again during the
2016 Democratic National Convention, where she spoke in support of Hillary Clinton, the democratic presidential candidate, and fellow former first lady. Along with influential speeches, Obama’s strength is displayed through her efforts as an advocate for the awareness of nutrition and exercise. Her “Let’s Move” campaign is remarkable and has caused a change in the mindsets of millions of people. According to Modern Healthcare, Obama’s “efforts have really resulted in the nation as a whole recognizing what an important issue it is for us to have all children grow up to have a healthy weight.” Ultimately, Michelle Obama, is one of the strongest female figures that currently exist. The novel Warriors Don’t Cry by Melba Pattillo Beals has many themes that are shown. One of the major themes that stuck out to me was inner strength and perseverance. Inner strength means to have Integrity of character: resoluteness of will: mental resistance to doubt or discouragement. Perseverance means steadfastness in doing something despite difficulty or delay in achieving success.
Despite recent failures on a variety of political aspects, Obama has managed to maintain his “cool.” That would be much harder if it weren’t for occasionally guest starring on shows such as Ellen; he definitely has a niche for keeping up with the talk-shows and media. Once introduced, he isn’t afraid to show off his dance skills, but then quickly get to business. As a marvelous orator, complicated topics and issues can be dissolved for the common folk, thus, providing a trivial insight into his moral fiber. On top of it all, he has ten years experience in public office. The...
The goal of Hillary’s speech is to persuade her audience that her ideas are valid, by using ethos, pathos, and logos. Hillary is the First Lady and Senator, she shows credibility as an influential activist for woman rights. “Over the past 25 years, I have worked persistently on issues relating to women, children, and families. Over the past two and a half years, I’ve had the opportunity to learn more about the challenges facing women in my country and around the world” (Clinton 2).
In the beginning of the speech Barack Obama reflects back to where his parents and grandparents came from and what they did as their occupation. Obama shows pathos, logos and ethos many times throughout his 2004 keynote speech. He also spoke on why his mother and father gave him the name that they gave him. By doing so, Barack Obama showed pathos throughout the speech and got his audience to know him a bit before pursuing the Democratic Party to vote for John Kerry. He appeals to his audience by mentioning that his parents are both passed away, and from the look of things that did not stop him from standing where he was that day with pride and sadness:
Barack received a bachelor’s degree from Columbia University and then worked as a community organizer on the South Side of Chicago. This helped him gain a lot of confidence and responsibility. He had many plans and goals to make the community better. He achieved his goals and this was just the beginning of a successful path in his life. He decided to attend Harvard Law School, which helped him bring change for himself, his family, and especially to his community. Also in that school he also gained the knowledge and power of becoming a leader that he wanted to become.
Different lessons can be learned after past experiences and behaviors. From past behaviors, whether they are positive or negative, one can learn from these mistakes. Vicarious reinforcement is how likely one is to perform a behavior due to the previous outcome (Sigelman & Rider, 2015, p. 44). Therefore, actions are learned due to different negative or positive outcomes. Michelle Obama learned from the pressure of her parents on education that success is necessary for some and occasionally it is the only way to become respected. Michelle transferred her own learning to try and teach the American children the importance of education. She learned how to set up a campaign to encourage children to focus and pursue their education
“For me, education was power.” Michelle Obama has always been a major advocate for many different causes, such as education, health, and support for military families. Her work to make people’s lives better has influenced many people to join the causes and have healthier lifestyles. Becoming First Lady gave her a large influence and began her support of many causes, which has made her one of the most influential people of this century.
February 10, 2007, Obama announced his presidential candidacy at a rally in front of the Old State House in Springfield, Illinois, which was where Abraham Lincoln had given his famous "house divided" speech. The Obama campaign received a great huge amount of support from organizations, volunteers, and donors. Barack Obama was running against former first Lady Hillary Clinton wife of former president Bill Clinton. The Obama campaign developed a strategy for winning the Democratic nomination that relied on assembling the blacks and white liberals that had enabled him to succeed in Illinois, with an additional focus on young voters. However, Senator and former First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton opened a strong lead in the polls, even among African American voters and leaders who admired her and her husband, former President Bill Clinton. Many did not think Obama had much of a chance to win. Although, many doubted Barack wouldn’t win against Hillary Clinton he in fact beat her and she was no longer in the run for president. Hilary Clinton ...
She, like the narrator of Klass’s story, “Not a Good Girl,” is an intellectual, having attended both Princeton University and Harvard School of Law, but these prestigious schools so do not exempt her from the harsh criticism she endures. She is an advocate for the health of children, looking to end the obesity epidemic that plagues America, yet, critics can only seem to focus on her masculine stature, particularly her muscular biceps. This criticism stems from the idea that the First Lady is to be elegant and feminine, a trophy for the President to parade around, and the idea of Michelle Obama’s arms being too muscular and her skin being too dark, inhibits people from seeing her as a woman. Taking this all into consideration, the comparison between Hillary Clinton’s time as First Lady and Michelle Obama’s time as First Lady paints the image that women being in power are becoming a normalcy. During Barak Obama’s campaign trail, the criticism of Michelle’s career while also being a mother of two was less in focus while Hillary, on the other hand, was condemned by journalists and citizens of America for being such an independent woman, and somewhat emasculating to her husband, Bill Clinton (McGinley, 2009,
My top strength is Individualization. To me, this strength means the ability to figure people out and understand the true uniqueness of others. With this strength, I am able to make things run smoothly and, at the same time, able to involve everyone in a group. The next strength I have is strategic, which enables me to find alternative ways to deal with problems. Therefore, I am also able to make things run smoothly and according to plan. In addition to these two strengths, my third strength is competitive which measures how successful I am compared against others. This is great because it helps me to endure and work hard in order to make it to the top. My fourth strength is restorative which is a talent that helps me to deal with any problems that may arise and ensure that things continue going according to plan. This strength means that I can endure and overcome any adversity that comes my way. My last strength is achiever. This is a strength that helps me to work hard and always be productive. Being an achiever maintains my ability to always keep going and to constantly feel the need to be productive.
Across the world, ordinary people find heroes that they aspire to imitate. Comic books portray heroes as super strong men in spandex suits, and although a three-year-old child might aspire to be superman, more mature audiences hopefully find more realistic figures to idolize. Take Barack Obama, the President of the United States; he worked his entire life to attain the highest position in our government, President. Obama was not born with a silver spoon in his mouth but to a single mother in Hawaii. Through hard work and motivation, he went to college and received an education at Columbia University. He later obtained a law degree from Harvard University and began working with the Democratic Party. In 1996 he was elected to the Illinois Senate and acquired a seat in the United State’s Senate in 2004. After only 5 years of experience in the Senate, he was elected the 44th president. Obama’s exponential growth in importance and power could only have been achieved by an exemplary man. His determination, intelligence, hard work, and professionalism all made his success attainable, and he should be admired for these traits. Every country has a national hero and Barack Obama is the United State’s.
Strength is an influence of quality to have the power to be strong, courageous and exhibit the mentality to be a success. Sure we think of strength as being a bodily function, but we use strength in all aspects of life. Eric Thomas, Nolan Rivers, and my grandmother are three prime examples of the kind of strength that is used in life to achieve, accomplish and be successful. Each of these three people has a mindset that if you can be faithful in the small things in life, you can have the inner power to make your life a success. Attitude, which is the first agenda to make strength adjustments, is very substantial in making life meaningful. A hindrance to having a great character is speaking to others with an aggressiveness that gives off negative
One strength Hillary Clinton possesses is her vast political experience. Her lengthy resume speaks volumes to her knowledge of the issues and proves her readiness to be president to many voters. Her experience as Secretary of State allows Clinton to boast about being a stable hand in the rapidly changing global climate of today, therefore she must relate her experience to being a steady leader. Her time at the Children’s Defense Fund bolsters her on social issues and improves her humanity and likability. Also, her experience can be emphasized by means of high-profile endorsements, like that of Barack Obama, who called her one of the most qualified candidates in history (Bump). This matters to educated voters as they recognize that Mr. Trump, unstable in terms of
A strength that sets me apart from anyone else is that I can empathize with others. I am able to put myself in their situation and understand their point of view. Without empathy, conflict resolution would not be possible.
