It's important because it shows the life of a bullied child, and puts you in his shoes and lets you experience all of his feelings. He has loyalty in the book Michael Vey Prisoner of Cell 25 by Richard Paul Evans. Michael is very loyal and dedicated.
I am reading a novel by Alan Gratz. It is called Prisoner B-3087, and it is based on a true story! Prisoner B-3087 is about a kid who gets sent off to be a slave by the Nazis (Yanek). Yanek is all by himself in World War 2, no one to lean on, and no one to ask for help. I can not explain in words how happy yanek is to be alive. Yanek is starving, and thirsty, but he does not know how much time he has. Does yanek have what it take to make it through without losing his will to live, and his sense of who he really is inside. You are going to have to read Prisoner B-3087 to find out if he really has it in him. I recommend the book to all kids and parent 11 to 100 it is a great story. You will love it so much that you will not put the book down.
The book HIDEOUT, written by Gordon Korman, begins with an adventurous group of middle school kids that come to the rescue of one of their friends to hide a fierce Doberman before a crooked businessman can bring him harm. The story starts out in the beginning of August, in Cedarville, New York, with the school friends all heading off to summer camps but they did not know they would be sneaking a dog along with them. There are two main characters in each of the summer camps and the story takes place in all three of these camps. These summer camps are in the woods of New York’s Catskill Mountains. They are Camp Ebony Lake, Camp Ta-da and Camp Endless Pines. These three camps may be in the same woods but they are spread out and are miles away from each other. There is a different theme to each camp and it makes the book more interesting because the setting is always changing.
In the United States, a citizen has rights granted to them under documents such as the Constitution, including the Bill of Rights, which gives citizens certain freedoms as long as they obey the law. When someone commits a crime, they are then entitled to aspects such as a speedy trial, a fair jury, an attorney if they wish, and other things, under the sixth amendment. Even if the person is found guilty, as a U.S. citizen they have rights under the eighth amendment which include protection against excessive bail or fines, and cruel and unusual punishment. Since the framers enacted the amendment, the exact definition of cruel and unusual punishment has been difficult to pin down, changing with the times and everyone’s interpretations. In this critic, I will be analyzing and comparing two books. The first book is “A question of Freedom a Memoir of Learning, Survival, and Coming of Age in Prison” by R. Dwayne Betts. The second book is “Newjack: Guarding Sing Sing” by Ted Conover. In this comparison will first give a short summarization of both books. Second I will be answering the fallowing questions, what prisons are discussed? What types of prisoners are there- age, race, sex, level of crime? How current is the information? What are the conditions of the prisons? How are the prisoners treated? How are the guards and their viewpoints represented? How are the prisoners and their viewpoints represented? What forms of rehabilitation are there? What are the social relationships with other inmates? What opportunities are available to occupy prisoners? What point of view is the author taking – critical, Positive, does she/he write from the viewpoint of a guard, a prisoner? What evidence is/are the author’s points based on and how is the evidence presented - for example, first hand observations, Statistics? Also what changes, if any, are proposed or discussed by the author? How does the information in this book compare with what you’ve read in the text and articles and what you have observed on a class trip? Lastly what is your opinion of the information and viewpoint expressed in the book?
Expectations versus environment has been an ongoing argument on which is more effective on a destiny. However, environment has much more effect in a destiny. It is nearly impossible not to see this play out in today’s society. “The Other Wes Moore” by Wes Moore is a prime example of how environment overrides expectations when it comes to creating a destiny. This book is primarily about two boys with the same names, but incredibly different fates that were predetermined by their uncontrollable environment. Wes Moore(a) grew up to fulfil a role in the U.S. Army and write a book. Wes Moore(p) sealed his fate by committing a felony and earning a life sentence in prison. Gresham M. Sykes describes the society of captives from the inmates’ point of view. Sykes acknowledges the fact that his observations are generalizations but he feels that most inmates can agree on feelings of deprivation and frustration. As he sketches the development of physical punishment towards psychological punishment, Sykes follows that both have an enormous effect on the inmate and do not differ greatly in their cruelty.

Ethos gives credibility, pathos shows emotion and logos uses words. In the text, Letter from Birmingham Jail, we find many examples of the criticism. Martin Luther King Jr. is writing a letter from inside the jail of Birmingham in April of 1963. This letter King wrote was in response to a letter he received from the religious leaders after King is making a stand against the racial issues in Alabama. These leaders stand firm in their letter when they say that when rights are being denied, they should be handled in the courts with negotiations and not in the streets. The authorities have placed Martin Luther King Jr. against his own will after his demonstration of desegregation. While incarcerated, King managed to find anything and everything to write this letter that is now famous for being a link to the end of public racism all over the nation. The content of the letter is filled with appeals of ethos, pathos and logos, which is necessary to make a strong argument.

Michael McDonald and his family were constantly subjected to oppression and discrimination due to their social status, skin color, and looks. They all moved several times trying to find an affordable and safer place where to live, but their quest was far beyond their reach and capabilities. The McDonalds were prisoners of their own social immobility which prevented them from prospering in life. Michael was less than a year old, when his mother, Helen McDonald, known as Ma moved with him and her other seven children to Jamaica Plain, a neighborhood of working-class Irish families, escaping the insecurities and oppression of Columbia Point, a mostly black neighborhood. Then, they move to Old Colony after being forced to leave Jamaica Plain because Ma’s dad believed they were deteriorating the house too rapidly and it represented a loss on its book value. They all live in Old Colony for a very long time, experiencing some of the worst crimes and life experiences before the ones that survived Southie’s lifestyle could ever being able to get out.
Imagine living in a concentration camp where you were starved and not treated with any respect, how long do you think you could last? In concentration camps the Nazis subjected millions of people including both Jews and other victim groups to forced labor under brutal conditions. In the early 1900’s, 1937 to be exact, the Nazis exploited the forced labor of so called “enemies of the state” for economic gain and to meet desperate labor shortage. At the end of the year, most Jewish men in Germany were required to perform forced labor for various government agencies. The German authorities required Polish Jews to live in Ghettos and deployed the Polish Jews at labor. For Jews, the ability to work often meant the potential to survive. After the Nazis began to implement the “Final solution” a plan to murder all of European jewry. Jews that didn’t work were often killed or deported. Zimbard's Stanford prison experiment revealed how social roles can influence our behavior. There are many ways that people can influence our behavior, but perhaps one of the most important is that the presence of others seems to set up expectations. We do not expect people to behave randomly but to behave in certain ways in particular situations. Each social situation entails its own particular set of expectations about the proper way to behave. Such expectations can vary from group to group. One way in which these expectations become apparent is when we look at the roles that people play in society. Social roles are the part people play as members of a social group. With each social role we adopt, our behavior changes to fit the expectations
I look out of my prison windows, only to see a faint outline of trees and mountains, the fog blocking most of my view of the landscape surrounding The Obsidian Prison. The sky is painted a deep shade of azure, while tufts of clouds float freely in the air, as if mocking me for being locked up in this little form of hell. My eyes scan the surroundings, and the only thing I can clearly see is the ring of mountains blocking any chance of escape; the only way out, is through the pass. However, that is easier said than done. From my position in The Obsidian Prison, I can see small figures in the distance; and I know it can only mean one thing: elves.
In the fall semester of 2017, I taught an art class with the Restorative Justice Initiative program in the State Correctional Institution (SCI) prison education program in Bellefonte, PA. I am a Ph.D. candidate in Art Education and Women’s, Gender, & Sexuality dual-title degree program, and my goal for teaching art with the prison education program is to provide a non-verbal way of communication for inmates to express themselves to reduce tension and stress. For many of the inmates, an art program is an alternative course of therapy to help them communicate by using creative techniques in the prison and upon release.
